  1. But I think when people claim they are rich because they work(ed) hard, it's almsot always a massive exaggeration of one factor over many others. You/we are rich or poor because of luck, basically.

I agree with both your posts Blandy. The Government is incompetent but I think all parties are if I'm honest. As for luck being a factor, again I agree but I also think you can certainly help make your own luck as well. There is a quote “I'm a greater believer in luck, and I find the harder I work the more I have of it”. If you could analyse a cross section of peoples lives I'm sure everyone would catch a similar amounts of 'lucky' breaks. It's whether people choose to take them or not?

I've never claimed to be rich, I'm far from it, I just have a nice comfortable life. My wife doesn't work as she brings up our three kids so our household income is just the equivalent of two average earners but I'm more than happy with that. I also never claimed to work harder than the next man. I just pushed myself to take opportunities presented to me and do the best I could with them.

  2. I can't speak for Andyh but my post was exaggerated in reply to Jadenb42 comment that he has no sympathy for people that have lost a benefit available just cause they are spending their money wrong? I find comments like that pretty repellent. Whilst I know there are many reasons why people don't end up earning a good wage (again the comment about work hard/be more ambitious was posted to show perspective to the previous comment) I can't abide people who think everyone that does earn well, doesn't deserve it and owe them something just because they don't. I never came from a wealthy background my first two jobs were managing a newsagent and an electrical apprentice but I clawed myself up to decent income.

I do agree with a benefit system and I think we should look after the needy and I'm more than happy for my taxes to help out the ill, the disabled and old, Kids that have come out of bad backgrounds that need a head start etc. etc.. I'm all for it. However I don't think we should be supplementing peoples income so they can have sky/ more kids/ cigarettes and booze. Jaden is right, people earning 50k that are moaning they NEED the benefit should cut back and live within their means but that applies to people earning 15k too. Why should you get another 5k in benefits?

I agree with andyh CB should be handed out in voucher form. To be honest I don't need the CB I just find it ridiculous that my neighbours with a higher joint income than me still get it. I just want a level playing field even if it means the government save more money and then for them to spend it correctly!

  3. They should of done it on household income. The way they gone about it is messy. I have no sympathy for people who moan they not getting it anymore £50k is a lot of money. I earn between £14k-£15k a year me and my partner have 1 kid. Add on our benefits we don't get housing or council tax benefits btw, we get less than £20k but we get by fine. It's just annoys me when I hear people on the radio crying about it. Your spending ur money wrong if you miss that money and on £50k+

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I earn over 50k and have lost the benefit with three kids. I have no sympathy that you only earn 14k-15k, you should have worked harder at school/been more ambitious then you could have a better lifestyle. I do mind that I have put more money in the pot over my 25 working years and paying the higher tax rate for a lot of that and now I'm supplementing your life by you getting 4-5k benefits a year. It's all about perspective.

  4. Why would this be the case? You get taxed a percentage of what you earn? That percentage doesn't change just because you work more hours? The only difference to this would be if the amount of overtime you worked meant that your extra earnings pushed you into the next tax bracket? Obviously we cant answer that without knowing what you actually earn and how much extra you will earn by doing the overtime? but basically if your not going to earn over £35k then your tax will stay at 20% of what ever you earn?

  5. I agree with what your saying Tamuff, I'm in the same boat as you a good salary but still highly stressed and life was easier when I was a youngster but I don't think it has anything to do with the money it's to do with the responsibility you have now compared to then. As you say though the money he earns is a completely different level and he could easily pay somebody to relieve ANY stress he has. IE money issues hire an accountant, parenting issues, hire a nanny, etc, etc

He was on his honeymoon in our hotel this year and the bloke was a complete knob. He wouldn't even chat to the kids at all and strutted around with his trophy wife in his wrong way round baseball cap like he was something really special. There were other football players there who were brilliant and actually organised a kick around with the kids most days and even bought all of them ice creams one day while O'Hara was totally arrogant and acted like he was above everybody there including the other players.

  6. I can never understand why when I watch kids play they can float corners in perfectly yet premier league players can be so crap at it? My lad plays under 12's and they even have kids that put the ball in the right place from a corner 80% of the time?

  7. Very jealous. A great bit of kit. I am still holding out in hope the 7100 is released soon though. I know what your saying Risso about the D600 but the 7000 is two years old now and this is about Nikons cycle period. Its been rumoured for a while now and I reckon it'll be released around Jan/Feb around the £800 mark. Hoping I may get a deal at focus on imaging.

  8. I love what you've done. I have been working with lots of models in the studio but I'm a little bored of that now and want to get more creative with bigger location projects. How did you go about getting make up artists and hair stylists? Also who chose your outfits etc?

  9. The fact the club are still ringing around asking folks if they're renewing worries me too. Doesn't sound like all is well does it

I get frustrated when people trot this line out.

Aston Villa, as well as being a football club, is also a business.

They have a sales department, whose staff are no doubt paid a commission or bonus on the number of Season tickets that they sell. The fact they are ringing round is to try and maximise revenue from the sale of these tickets. Any business that didn't do the same would be foolish.

It is not a sign of anything other than a business with a sales department operating as they should.

You are correct it is a business. If you went to a restaurant that advertised itself as world class food and paid a premium price for your meal only to be served a load of crap would you not complain about it pointing out what they originally advertised?

  10. Nor can I possibly understand why people don't get what a 12A is. There was a 6 year old in that showing last night.

Whilst I agree with 99% of your post Chindie a 12A doesn't mean kids can't go? It means under 12's can only go accompanied by an Adult? They also don't rate films because they know kids go to the toilet more than adults?

  11. It looks real cheap IMO. I miss Nike already :(

I agree. At the end of the day its just a football kit and I wouldn't wear it anyway. However its a step backwards marketing wise. Looks very cheap.
