I think I may be personally responsible for England's bad form against Australia in all sports between 1988 and 2003...
I emigrated to Australia in 1988... I began loudly proclaiming that England would wipe the floor with Australia in all sports... they then spectacularly lost the Ashes 4-0 in 1989... we then proceeded to be utter shite in pretty much every sport... we lost against Australia everything from rugby league, to union, the olympics, even football (and I was at that game)... we were dire!
Boy did I cop some shit from my mates in Australia over that 15 year period!!...
Then, in August 2003 I moved to America... three months later, Martin Johnson is holding the world cup aloft... and the cricket team has started to eclipse the Australian team...
Ribbing your mates isn't the same over the phone or by email... I bloody wish I was in Australia right now to serve it to my mates!... but then again, if I was over there, we'd probably be getting pumped in the cricket and Australia would again have the William Webb Ellis Trophy.
you bastard...
stop supporting villa too...
:winkold:

over 500 would be superb....
-
when all fit, id go with jlloyd at left back, barry and left mid and berger in the centre....
may be an idea to try jlloyd at left mid and barry at left back too...
that might be interesting with jlloyds pace..

Neither, i wanted Baros over both of those. We tried to get him last year but his great Euro Championship put an end to that.
Beattie and Bellamy were plan B & C.
spot on...
this is getting erie now... this is a few times in a couple of days i have agreed with you...
-
IF baros signs, then im sure whoever is out of form or injured will be dropped and all 3 will be rotated...
i personally, hope that baros and luke strike up a decent partnership together... better for our long term future...
-
we need a lot of things...
baros is one of them...
-
aint that the truth straggle...

i think its due to experience of the fellas style of play over the years when contracts are up for renewal....
you may be right in this particular case but time will tell when he gets to play with mccann again...
personally, i hope youre right, but i feel he will be the same old hendrie as he always has been even when he gets to play with mccann again....
which is showing small signs of real quality, that is ruined by his stupidity and inconsistancy.....
he COULD have been a villa great....
-
what has changed this year?
hendrie isnt playing for a contract nor is he available due to suspension....
tbh, i dont think theres much difference technically between the two players.. once davis finds his feet properly and is established, he will be a much better player than hendrie...
at the moment though, although davis shows a lot of potential, there is not a great deal of difference between the two.. although hendrie probably nicks it at the moment...
-
i would like to call it the '**** off doug ellis stand'
-
hendrie has had the same 'potential' for years....
at 27, i think hes past the point of potential and the player he is, is the player he is...
shame really...

back on topic..................
personally, bringing in, and i quote, "four top quality" players or using "significant" or "substantial" funds, has not happened...
dol has already said about phillips and berger that he wanted them years ago and they are at the wrong end of their careers, or something along those lines, so i think we can discount those as the "top quality" players he was looking at, so this hasnt happened...
our net spend and equally the individual prices for the players we have brought in, is not "significant" or "substantial", so they can be discounted for those too...
so as things stand, we have not spent "significant" or "substantial" funds nor have we brought in "four top quality" players...
even if we bring in baros for 6 mil and a defender for 2 mil, (which is the reported unsubstantiated fees flying around), thats still only 8 million spent net...
a meagre sum in total for a premier league football club, bearing in mind our boards expectations and the amount of players we have let go within the past few years... thats IF it actually happens...
it would also not be the "four top quality" players we were promised...
IF it happens....
but we could also look at the promised beattie money..
we initially had 4 mil of that left, so if we assume that this actually existed and we have spent a grand total of £250k so far, then we are currently have just under 4 mil of that left...
so even if 8 mil is spent, half of that would be last years 'alleged' beattie money, so our summer spend THIS year would only be 4 million...
about our normal net spend....
and this is 'IF' we pick up baros and a 2 million pound defender...
-
no...
im infatuated with the truth...
and as this thread is about money and truth, i think its highly appropriate to bring it into the discussion...
-
right on queue....
whats clear from the rest of my post is, we havent spent "significant" or "substantial" funds nor have we brought in "4 top quality" signings...
even if we make an 8 million pound outlay, then 4 mil of that will be from last summers beattie money...
so 4 mil THIS SUMMER isnt that substantial is it avfc1982?!?
that is unless you dont think the beattie money ever existed in the first place....
-
wow... no surprise to see certain members having certain (and argumentative) opinions...
some things never change...

we are in for baros?!?
-
i dont think we will get anyone else in...
-
IF he comes, then we will still have been lied to...
-
dol could be a villa great with the shackles removed...
-
pesimistic...
im hopeful, but expect very little...
-
vass for me....
purely for his unselfish running and workrate...
-
saunders.. simply becuase he wasnt a money grabbing clearing in the woods who turned on the fans who idolised him...
used to baffle me how saunders never bit his toungue off when playing...
it spent more time out of his mouth than in...
-
supergav...

taylor for me all the way...
the guy is a legend...
