Why 6 games in particular? Is that when the WC break is? Genuine question.

This also is at odds with what you've been repeating in that he needs to be stuck with in the long term given that he's a rookie. Unless of course you think the cutoff point to know whether or not he's cut out for it is in 6 games, then that would make sense.

I think we should give him a fair crack at the job following a preseason and getting his own players in. Obviously Carlos was a huge loss and although it can't be used as an excuse it should allow a little understanding. I didn't check when the international break is but I am thinking it is about 6 games away. I think that to see what a manager can do at the start of a season should take somewhere between 10 and 15 games. As we have played 6, I just doubled that number thinking that is somewhere in between 10 and 15 games played and close to the international break. If it turns out to be 5 games of 7 games till then I am happy with that as the number.

My stance on sticking with him as a rookie is correct but I am also acknowledging that he has already had 32 games as Villa manager and the grace period as a rookie is coming very close to an end. I just feel that last season was really difficult for him. New club, loads of pressure, first time in the PL, reputation on the line, a big budget and replacing a very liked manager. He took over midseason and I think, if he has the ability to be a good PL manager we will see that this season as he now knows Villa and the players, he is more used to the PL and he has had a preseason and got some of his players in. The 'new job' nerves should be gone and we should see the real 'Steven Gerrard the Manager' during the first 10 to 15 games of this season. If he is a success then great. If he isn't a success then I will want him replaced.

You're one of my favourite posters but since you've started being a combative poster you've lost your authenticity. I liked your regular comments on all things Villa but I do not enjoy this new confrontational you.

I guess this applies to many of the posters that I looked forward to seeing share their views,.

We're mates guys, we support the same team. Passion is good, falling out is rubbish. This comes from a fan who has literally seen it all before .... the good,  the bad and the ugly.  We're better than this. Let's accept that we all have contrasting views and stay together as a Villa Talk cohort. UTV.

Thanks and I will take the feedback onboard 🙂. I agree we all want the best for Villa and we have different opinions. If we didn't have different opinions this place would be very very boring. The thing that annoys me most on here is when posters make up shyte to support their opinion. The constant snide remarks and and constant twisting of a comment to suit the narrative. I also don't like the ridiculous comments about NSWE and Purslow which are clearly just made to again support a narrative.

Yes, I want SG to have more time. Is he on thin ice? yes! has he improved us since he replaced Deano? No! Should he be sacked if he can't show improvement in the next 6 games or so? Yes. That is just my opinion and I have no problem with people wanting him sacked now, there is merit to that argument. I just like when the debate is honest and not personal.

Poch is worth x10 whatever Gerrard gets. If we can get him on x2 what Gerrard gets, it’s an absolute steal.

I want Poch as manager. I have wanted him for years, I think he is worth breaking the bank for

Might be a step down club wise, but  the money is here, apparently he was only on 1 million euro a month at PSG. ***** me were paying the apprentice more than that to be here. 🤮

SG is 'only' on about 6m/7m a year according to reports. I think we would need to be doubling that to get Poch.

    1. Finish 11th with 55 points.

    2. Pick up 10 points from first 11 games the following season manager rightly gets the sack, with the CEO citing continuous improvement.

    3. Sign the Rangers manager, who has no prior experience.

    4. ?????

    5. Profit

You appear to have missed a few points between picking up 10 points and getting sacked 🤣

Not sure why Frank would accept. They're projected to make a lot of losses meaning he won't have much money to shape the squad to his liking. And its not like it seems he's reached ceiling with Brentford yet.

Apparently 120m loss for this accounting year and that includes the 75m for selling Fofana. That is serious FFP worries and lack of future funding for transfers

Why do some managers ‘take time to implement their style’ and others not?

Is it because the ones that don’t take very long aren’t actually doing any proper coaching?

I think there is a difference between short term changes that are more effective than the previous manager's and longterm charges that are more of a paradigm shift that change the culture of how football is played. Potter is a paradigm shift type manager and this takes longer

Gutted if Potter goes to Chelsea, we really should have gone for him after Smith. If Chelsea are talking to him we should have a sneaky chat ourselves!

Hard to imagine Pochetino coming to us, seems like wishful fantasy to me. Rodgers is decent enough to do the next part of our progress but I don't really like him much. Tuchel may be a clearing in the woods but he's a very good coach, would like him here, in 2/3 seasons he could bring us on a lot.

Maybe all this talk is useless as Gerrard will have realised that his 4-3-2-1 is rubbish and no-one understands how to play it. Then he'll start putting out our best XI in a good organised shape and we'll go on a run.

    Maybe not though :D

What would the sneaky chat be about? Perhaps, wishing him the best of luck with Chelsea or are u suggesting that Purslow tries to sell Villa as a more attractive option to Chelsea, I know Purslow is good but there is a limit to his capabilities 🙂

Same, I don’t want Rodgers here tbh. He needs some time away from the game in my opinion.

Agreed and his is a moaning, whining, boring, pass the buck manager that would really annoy me seeing every interview he gave about Villa 🙂

How about YOU google some of the other premier league owners.

My point isn’t that the Saudis are squeaky clean.  My point is that I 100000% guarantee you that Emery not working for them has NOTHING to do with him making a moral stand.

An utterly bizarre thought process, like saying ‘Poch will turn down villa on moral grounds because Sawiris has a stake in Adidas and they use child slavery in Indonesia.’

You may find it difficult to be able to support that argument.

I appreciate that industry sector has in the past used child labour but you will find that has all been stamped out as supply chain due diligence has become the norm for companies doing business with industries that have in the past operated illegal and immoral work practices. Yes, Adidas were guilty of this over 20 years ago in Indonesia but it is wrong to say they are currently doing so

And did u  actually read my comment? I said 'I like to let myself believe', it is very much tongue in cheek

I know I might be selling myself a dream, but I'm on board with Tuchel. He's tactically flexible, at Dortmund he used 4-2-3-1/4-1-4-1 and at PSG he used 4-3-3. Chelsea he used that variation of 3-4-3 with two 'number 10s' although I am not to keen on that set up.

TT is a top class manager, I would have no issues with appointing him. I would hate Rodgers at our club

You can't blame people on here mate.

I realise a large percentage of the British poulation seem to get their " news " re the Arab world from the Daily Mail etc. 😂

They reckon the police will be running around Qatar chasing drunk people having sex and locking up anyone who might look a bit camp at the World Cup 😂

    For example.

Are u sure it isn't a shoot to kill policy for during the WC? Let me just check the news in the Daily Mail for confirmation 🤣

What the **** is this bullshit?

what moral grounds would those be?

the same moral grounds that stopped him from working for the Qataris at PSG?

Big difference between the Qataris and the Saudis

Yeah it's this crazy thing called forecasting. It uses past data and probability.

Applying forecasting i.e. past data and probability, how many games and time should a Premier League club give a rookie manager when they employ one. Obviously, Villa employed SG in the full understanding that he had never managed in the PL before. What would forecasting suggest? One, two or maybe three transfer windows? A preseason with the players or no preseason? Would looking at past data suggest that a rookie manager would need more time than an experienced manager?

Sad thing is that you just know that the City result will be another false dawn and we'd have just wasted another week or two hoping he finally figured it out

Could Potter say ‘thanks but no thanks’ perhaps or is Chelsea too good a job to turn down?

Too good to turn down. Champions league football, title contending side, massive transfer budget and seriously life changing pay packet
