  1. I scored the greatest goal I've ever scored in our 5-aside league game last night. In fact i imagine it's the best goal I'll ever score. So I feel the need to boast about it.

Long ball to me on the left of the pitch, about 15 yards out from goal. Brought it down with a nice touch. Now, I'm not a very good footballer, and certainly not a skillful player (AVFCPOB can confirm I'm sure!) but I can do one skill and one skill only. The flick-flack.

So i brought the ball down and was faced with one of their defenders. Pulled out the flick-flack and it worked better than I could have ever imagined, nutmegging the defender in the process. Collected the ball the other side of him, dummied it past the last defender and deftly scooped it over the on rushing goalkeeper to see it nestle in the net.

One of those where I'd never have even thought to dummy the last defender and lob the keeper given the time to think about it, I just did it without really thinking.

Best of all, it was the winner as we won 5-4

I might retire from football now because I'm never going to top that!

Don't be so harsh on ya self, good touch for a big man ;)

Whatever level of football, there isn't many better feelings than scoring a great goal to win and then going to bed and just smiling to yourself going over it again and again in your head and then of course telling every possible person about it.

  2. Prem - Chelsea

Championship - Leicester (West Ham, Ipswich two others)

    League 1 - Sheff United

    League 2 - Swindon

    Carling Cup - Liverpool

    Fa Cup - United

    Spain - Barca

Champions League - Real Madrid ...(How the hell will Milan win it!?)

    Biggest flop - Henderson

Signing of season - Nasri to Man City

    Top scorer - Van Persie

Break out player - Cleverley and Joe Allen.

Some terrible shouts but also some decent ones.

Swindon, Liverpool, Henderson, Van Persie and possibly Joe Allen being decent enough.

Chelsea, Leicester, Nasri being way off mark.

    Cleverley, (injured)

Barca poor shout considering only two teams.

    Real Madrid penalty shoot out

    mixed bag.

  3. He didn't succeed at Liverpool because he wasn't King Kenny.

I'm sure he could have done a far better job than he did, he did a poor job, there isn't really too many excuses. He wasn't unfairly slated, he wasn't good enough.

Firstly this is good because it weakens WBA, secondly he deserves it, hes a good manager and a decent bloke, and thirdly it opens up a McLeish to WBA possibility

They might regret that banner :)

Second bit is probably true, well depending on who they appoint, if it's McLeish then both will be correct. :)

  4. Absolutely. Blackburn have become the first team not to manage a single shot (inc blocks) in a PL game since WBA v Man City in Dec 2004 according to Twitter's finest statto, @optajoe. btw, the game between West Brom and Man City ended 1-1. Some bloke called Richard Dunne scored an own goal with five minutes to go. VRzNv.gif

What a weird game to have such a stat. Considering neither team was exactly a dominant one. You'd have thought it may have been Arsenal 2004 side or something.

  5. Another inept Norwich dispaly, thats almost 3 months of Shite from Lambert

Please Lord keep him away from my club

You do realise he's got back to back to promotions don't you?

I'm not sure what you actually expected of Norwich but I'm pretty sure just keeping them up is quite fantastic. Of course they are going to go through a weak period, their squad isn't of the standard.

Can I ask you, what did you expect of Norwich when they got promoted? What would you have considered a good job?

  6. I'm a skinny 5'9'' attacking midfielder, chronic in the air and predominantly left-footed, who plays for a poor team in a shitty amateur league.

I am 100% certain that I'd do a better job at right back for Villa than Alan Hutton. 100%. That's not me being cocky, I'm nowhere near good enough to be a professional footballer. I could find 15 players within a mile radius of my house who are better at football than Alan Hutton. How in the name of Jesus Christ is this man first choice right back for one of the biggest clubs in England? My head hurts thinking about it.

I actually feel exactly the same. Absolute useless.

  7. I don't know about Martinez. As I've said before, 30 seconds last season and he'd be in the championship now and we wouldn't even be talking about him.

And, again, I think he'd need time, which I don't think we can't and won't give him.

Could argue that it just shows he has that touch. Wigan needed to win, they did. Blues needed to win, they didn't. Villa need to win, we aren't, Wigan need to, they do.

Obviously I'd hope far more than what he's doing at Wigan but I think he could achieve that. As said, happy either way. I can't imagine he could do a worse job.

  8. I think Pep would commit suicide within 3 days if he had to work with the likes of Alan Hutton and James Collins.

Anyway I kinda agree with what Stevo is saying, I don't know huge deals about Lambert apart from doing a terrific job, do you not think Martinez is a good middle man in between Lambert who does seem to play a more direct game but gets great results and Rodgers who tries to play football at all costs. Martinez likes to play good football but you rarely see them over playing, never on levels like a Swansea but he'd set up the foundations so that sort of style can be introduced in the future if we wanted to head down that route.

I think Lambert would get better results but I'd be interested to see what Martinez can do. I'd be happy with either.

  9. I think one more point for us will do it.

1 more point for us and goal difference would mean Bolton AND QPR will both have to win 2 out of their last 3 games (or a win and 2 draws) for us to go down.

    I'd say that's pretty unlikely

Yeah I agree, thankfully both teams we have left to play are in really poor form. I think we'll stay up, just.

  10. Poppycock. I want Villa to remain one of only four English clubs to have won the European Cup. I certainly wouldn't cheer for Blose in Europe because they're English.

Indeed indeed, we should hope for another heysel and get our clubs banned for another 5 years stunting our development for a decade thereafter until we get rid of the rot at VP! Some people bewilder me, of the same ilk to those that boo the national team undoubtedly.

I just hope that should we survive, which is looking a tad more likely after today, that eck isn't credited with a great escape. You just know certain media outlets will try to pull that one off.

What about if some just like Barcelona, more than Chelsea. Or does that make us bad people also?

  11. I'd play with the more offensive Hutton v Sunderland at home.

The one who can't pass or cross a ball?

He's the worst crosser of the ball in the league for his position. His distribution is awful, he's clumsy, dives in and is reckless defensively.

The sort of attributes that make him so popular with McLeish.

His passing is ok, his crossing aint awful, for a full back. WTF you on about? He's as shit as shit can be at defending, isn't that enough, or do we have to make other stuff up to so we can revel in our misery?

    His crossing ain't awful?

Please can you revise this statement, thanks.

  12. Women comedians just aren't funny.
This view seems to be almost universal on VT, and I don't understand it at all.

It's like saying women can't act, or sing.

but they can act and they can sing.

Yep, personal taste, just never found a women comedian to make me laugh more than just once or twice during a routine. They bore me.

  13. Although privileged with some great players, let's not forget the impact he had on those careers. The likes of Messi, I'm not sure before 2008/09 many would have said moving Messi central with Eto'o and Henry either side of him and playing really without a proper CF would be the way to play considering at the time, the other two are strikers and Messi then was seen as a winger but he did.

Yes he's had the tools (I wouldn't say the team) aswell he's also spotted potentials 'tools' which others may have overlooked or quickly let go, He bought through Busquets and used him perfectly to allow him to become one of the finest holding players currently in the game. Pique one of the best CB's. He has developed players to become the best in their position and although the way of playing is ingrained into the club, I don't believe you can win so much and create one of the best teams to play the game without being a brilliant coach. I'm sure he worked as hard as anyone at making sure Barcelona were the finest team.

Season before Guardiola team Barcelona finished 3rd with 67 points. A season later, they win the league with 87 points and collect the Champions League, I think it's harsh to just say he inherited a great team, he didn't. He made a lot of very good individuals into great one's and more importantly into the best team possible.

I think to be one of the greatest ever you have to continuous success with different teams or in different era's but I do think he is a great coach and has proven that because although maybe Guardiola may not achieve what say Mourinho has and won titles across Europe, you could argue that Mourinho couldn't have achieved what Guardiola has. I won't say Guardiola will be as successful at his next club compared to Barcelona, that'd be impossible but I don't have many doubts that he'll be successful for the large majority of his career.

A great man and a great manager. Pep to Villa. :)
