  1. Anyone got an insight on the new 'anchoring' system the PL is trying to bring in?

Seems like an agreement in principle have been reached by the majority of clubs to bring it in from 25/26 - interestingly Aston Villa, Man City and Man Utd voted against it, whilst Chelsea abstained.

The way I understand it, the spending money is tied to the smallest TV income from a Prem club i.e. say Luton made £100m from TV, the 'cap' would be 5 times that - £500m to be spent on transfers and wages? does this mean amortisation is going to be a thing of the past?

Co-efficient FC still lives. It's just been renamed Aston Villa FC.

Real Madrid and PSG to dominate the German teams and a nice 3 wins for Villa and... well we'll basically get Spurs in the CL 😂

You forgot about the invincible Leverkusen

I know i am being a bit greedy here, but to me we need two good players in every position with champions league football on the horizon to be able to use both players in a game for a 45 minute minutes just like we can use bailey and Diaby and then have a Rodgers and Ramsey combo for a half apiece. We need to focus on minutes for players to cut the injury and fitness risks, where by we lose players for a long period of time through and have poor replacements or using Konsa to play in every position. Unai has us on the conveyor belt type of football where having a squad will be all important and we know the man see's the future, what a time to be a Villa fan.

We'll have an embarrassment of riches when everyone if fit for those two attacking roles.. Ramsey, Rogers, McGinn, Bailey, Diaby, Buendia and possibly Zaniolo.

If I lived that close to VP and knew what the plans were, I would wait for the neighbours to sell and hold out to the last to extract maximum money. I can't see it happening for that reason. It's so unpredictable and could take decades.

I'd do the same but still decline..  and insist that my house is built into the stand offering me a front row seat to the game

Frimpong (he's deffo signing now he wore our shirt) and Kosta will lock down the right back spot for the next decade. Flog Cash.
Ferdi whatshisface and whoever is left from Digne / Moreno can lock down left back. Ferdi can also cover every other position twice over.
Then we need cover for Kamara. Absolutely no idea who but an absolute unit who is technically good.

    erm... yeah that will do.

Can Ferdi cover the CM position should Luiz and/or Kamara be unavailable?

This crossed my mind as well, I can't remember exactly what happened with the Emirates, but I think there was something about some of those Highbury apartments being used to sweeten the deal for residents who needed moving for the new stadium to be built, I may be misremembering, but if we were looking at buying say everything in the area between Witton Lane and the railway, then temporarily rehousing many of those people somewhere with the promise of eventual apartments built on the current site could make it more of a possibility.

This would also allow us to use Villa Park whilst building a new stadium 'next door' on a bigger site essentially, and then the old ground gets converted into apartments like Highbury and the old residents move back into shiny new apartments. It's a more morally acceptable way of moving some people than the way Liverpool handled it, but not perfect for everyone I'd imagine

I'm just spitballing obviously, no idea what the plans are going to be, but it's good fun guessing.

Yeah I agree that would be the moral way of doing things.

Personally, i'd be all for knocking down houses in and around Villa park in order to redevelop it or rebuild it (a la Spurs) with the intention of building the previous residents new houses/apartments on a new site purchased by the club (ideally close by to their previous residence).

I'd also love the club to take over the rebuild of the Witton station - given the new investors seem to be global experts in that area

  7. Man Utd and Newcastle still to play each other. A draw in that game would surely secure us at the very least 5th.

The Spurs run-in is brutal. Beat Bournemouth on the 21st and Chelsea on the 27th and we could be 9 points clear of them before they host Arsenal on the 28th. COULD YOU IMAGINE!

  8. Decided to play the Wildcard this week. Will FH next week (GW34) and BB in GW 37.

Had the team set and now Foden got himself injured so I think he might be rested against Luton which throws my plans into a bit of turmoil... Currently have Garnacho, Foden and Haaland but now thinking of going Fernandes, KDB and Alvarez but I am terrified of not owning Haaland as he can just go off in a heartbeat.

I agree but if Kaine Kesler Hayden is having to thumb a lift I worry about cost cutting in other areas!

Thought he was just adjusting to his new position as left back.. on the bus

Personally I'd just go 4-3-3 and have Diaby and Bailey either side of Ollie. We certainly need something like that v Man. City. It was nice to see Tielemans playing well v England but the thought of him in a two man midfield v Man. City against Rodri, KDB and all of Silva, Foden and maybe Alvarez drifting in centrally dosen't feel a great prospect.

We've sort of morphed into it a little in recent times against Ajax and also parts of the West Ham game so I'd rather tweak things a little than asking Rogers to morph into Ramsey when he's still a fair way off that level.

Didn't we do a bit of that against Ajax? Emery mentioned that he had Bailey and Diaby out wide and running at full backs rather than cutting in. Seemed to work well given that we won comfortably.

Regarding Ramsey, best thing is to manage him until end of season and then get him a proper rest period to get back to full fitness for the Champs League crusade.

OK third option: dismantle the Holte End (only stand worth saving) brick by brick and transfer it to a new site and rebuild it along with 3/4 of a brand new bowl stadium. Best of both worlds!

    That would be epic!

Would be like Croke Park with Hill 16.

  12. Brentford have been mostly terrible this season. I could see Ushited getting a win there but hopefully Brentford take something off them.

I'd like to think we will beat Wolves, Hee Chan and Neto both out and Cunha (hopefully) not fully fit.

  13. Do the club have staff outside the turnstiles? Kind of like if you go to a gig, there will be a handful of staff members telling you to get your tickets/bags etc. ready for inspection. I always find that acts as a bit of a reminder to people to get themselves ready. It also helps people who are confused as they can ask for help away from the turnstile itself.

Are you trying to claim he's not been giving his all until now?

Not in the slightest, i've been a fan of his all season. Merely commenting that this is the some of time that can move a player up a gear.

  15. And add in the fact that we have been unable to have the sponsor on the shirt for a few of the European games. A change would make sense all around.

Could even ask any potential new sponsor to supplement the termination cost of BK8 is one is needed

The next 4 games are key - partly because they represent a large proportion of the remaining fixtures (:D), but also for the mental side of sides in the battle:

Villa:  Wolves (H), Man City (A), Brentford (H), Arsenal (A) (Lille tie either side of Arsenal game)
Spurs:  Luton (H), West Ham (A), Forest (H), Newcastle (A)
Man Utd:  Brentford (A), Chelsea (A), Liverpool (H), Bournemouth (A)

As things stand, there are no games in hand being played during this 4 game period - so we have a 3 points lead over Spurs and 9 points over Man Utd.

Obviously there's no easy game etc etc, but pessimistically (from a Villa POV, of course) I'd give each side:

    Villa - 4 points
    Spurs - 10 points
    Man Utd - 7 points

This loosely assumes that we take 4 points from the two home games and lose the away ones.  Spurs will drop 2 points at either West Ham or Newcastle (more likely than the home fixtures) and Man Utd beat both Brentford and Bournemouth away whilst taking a point elsewhere (feels unlikely, to be honest).  We'd then have:

    Spurs - 63 points
    Villa - 60 points
    Man Utd - 54 points

...heading into the final few games.  These are:

    Villa:  Bournemouth (H), Chelsea (H), Brighton (A), Liverpool (H), Palace (A)
Spurs:  Man City (H), Arsenal (H), Liverpool (A), Burnley (H), Sheff Utd (A) and Chelsea (A) (to be arranged)
Man Utd:  Newcastle (H), Burnley (H), Palace (A), Arsenal (H), Brighton (A) and Sheff Utd (H) (to be arranged)

Again, being pessimistic, let's assume we get 4 points, Spurs get 9 points and Man Utd get 12 points.  End of the season table would be:

    Spurs - 72 points
    Man Utd - 66 points
    Villa - 64 points

So whilst, yes, we may not finish 4th, I think it would need a fairly substantial shift in fortunes for both us and Man Utd for us not to finish 5th.  This can obviously happen, but it just feels really unlikely.

    I'd guess

Villa 13 points from those fixtures, Spurs 16th points and United 15 points.

We end the season in 5th (and qualifying for Champs League) and as Europa Conference League Winners.

Thank you very much. Same again next year.. except a different trophy obviously.

  17. I get the history of Villa Park and it being the classic ground that everyone looks going too but could you imagine having a Bernabeu-esqe stadium in the heart of Birmingham hosting NFL, concerts etc etc. It would put Villa properly on the world map.. and even Birmingham. Wembley of the Midlands vibes and all that. Would put our revenue up there with the Sky 6 which, lets face it, is becoming the most inportnat thing in football.

An added bonus would also be that more and more people will be exposed to Villa and the fan base will go through the retractable roof - meaning that it will speed up the extinction of Small Heath
