No rush but if we finish 8th-9th and show ambition Inthe summer we could have a realistic chance of convincing players that may see Spurs, Leicester, West Ham or Arsenal as ahead of us that we can challenge next year.

Finish 13th-15th and it's a harder discussion. A DM could genuinely be the difference for us between 9th and 13th. Then we can focus on a top tier CB in the summer.

    Fair point.

I have mixed feelings on that...

    • I see the need for the here and now and the cynic in me say's naturally so will SG, he wants to make a mark.
    • I also see the need for younger players too, for maybe after SG.

If SG did up and go at any stage, we don't want to be left with too many ageing players....its all about getting the balance right.

Dean was happy to go with youth, A) Easier to handle/manage b) He thought he would be with us for the duration, so he thought he would prosper from that strategy.

Ron Atkinson, did the "here and now" thing, with little focus on youth and for a while, we hade a really good team, then he left.

Its all about getting the balance right....I think with Kerr Smith, Josh Feeney, and our other youth prodigies, we probably are.

Given the investment already into the u23 squad, we should hopefully have a very good blend of talented youth and experience.

And you're right about SG legging it, we don't want to be left with a squad older than god

  4. Purslow's comments were interesting. SG wants the age profile raising and proven winners which shows with Phil and Digne.

Will definitely help the talented youth we've got and hopefully phase those lads in to replace them.

Two more in this window? Back up GK and CM?

He's actually marginally more successful with his pressing this season, 27% to 26.5%. I don't want to sound like an arse here, but when I've got a negative feeling about a player or their performance, I check the stats to see whether my instinct/memory correlates with the data first - even just with fbref and whoscored we've got a wealth of analytics available to us now - because I know that I can be sometimes be biased and mistaken.

I agree that he and Ings don't work together, though. I really don't see the point of them both being there when we have so much attacking talent available.

That's fair mate. I just look at games through beer goggles most the time and have no urge to check the data 😂😂
