Based on nothing but a gut feeling, but I don't think we are in for Benrahama.
I present to you the gut feeling. All gasp in awe to this magnificence -

So buying 5 players that easily improve a first 11 that stayed in the league last season, means that we will "almost certainly be in a relegation battle" again?
Have a word with yourself mate.
Buying players don’t automatically make a team better. If those new plays end being duds it’s hardly an improvement.
also all other clubs are recruiting too, so a lot of the time, transfer windows end up as “keeping up with the Jones”
Clubs and their fans are just left hoping that the new signings are more in line with “beating the Jones”
if we have good scouting, data and coaching teams that hope is reduced. It seems like with the back room recruitment we’ve been doing. There is positive signs

i think he started 2 Prem games last season (bad mistake), and came off the bench 8-10 times. (looking at it, he played roughly 170 minutes of PL football last season)
think he also played 3 or 4 times in the cup(s) (totalling about 260 mins)
what a shocking purchase this guy was, i dread to think the wage he is on......
Around £40k pw

Birmingham isn't attractive (sorry) and the calibre of player we should be signing can take their pick of Premier League clubs, so the PL isn't a factor either. We can't lure them with silly money because we'd be **** over our loyal players like McGinn, Mings and Grealish, who are on peanuts compared to similar players from other teams. We'd have to give them all new contracts before we buy someone and offer them 150k/week just to lure them here, otherwise there would be an uproar in the camp.
I'm not saying we should hand out silly contracts but what else can we realistically offer that our competitors cannot?

Well you did ask for a signing of intent to match the stated ambition of the club hierarchy, which is to be ‘competing on the European stage’.
Of course, the question you ask is a trap.
He wouldn’t sign with us
he’d have a melt down seeing trez and Taylor trying to give him service
His wages would be bigger than the rest of the team put together
he’s probably past it
and he doesn’t fit the current profile what we’re looking for.
So I don’t think we’re interested either

I am not a scout.......and i don't have to be to recognise the significance of the claim.
Your claim is flawed, because you assume that Villa hasn't signed a marquee signing yet, they they ain't looking for one. So far Villa have been linked with Mckinnie, Rashica, Tippier, Edouard, Origi, Iheanacho
Some are unrealistic and unattainable, But we've been close to getting others.
We not just looking in the £1 shop, we are also looking at waitrose- 1

I am not opposed to signing players from the championship.....but they must be targetted and that means an understanding they will make us better.
If its a case of just shopping there, because we have to......that worries me.
I think there is a legitimate claim, that if you keep shopping there , you are preparing to return there.
I Have so far seen nothing to match the rhetoric from the club, that we have ambition....we need to demonstrate this, not just claim it.
We need at least one signing of intent on that ambition.....so far it seems more likely we will relinquish the one player of intent we have....we have to change the perception of us.
Like who?

why people so fearful that we are not singing anyone. compared to other teams.
most of these teams are not even signing any players we’re interested in, let alone linked with.
our goals are still available and we trying to get them.

I know we’re all desperate to get signings in, but I want us to get some players out. Henri, Kalinic, Hogan, Jota.
Think Elmo will want to be playing ‘at this time in his career’ so, if we get Matty Cash, he’ll be off.
