Like most parties they think it's a great idea when they have no power and don't look like getting power anytime soon, but as soon as they are on a cusp of a large majority on circa 40% of the vote they get a bit quieter about it.

If the Tories end up on fewer MPs than the Lib Dems on twice the vote share (to stress, I still feel this is very unlikely) then I imagine they might start chirrupping about it for the first time.

Fair point… it’s probably because I support one of the smaller parties (but will be voting tactically to boot the Tories).

  2. Despite not wanting Reform to get a single MP, I find it mad that a party can return zero MPs with 11.5% of the vote, while another can return 64 MPs with 9.3% of the vote.

I wish Labour would make a song and dance about introducing Proportional Representation. I think it became one of their policies a couple of years ago, but I've not heard anything about it since.

n 2019 Boris Johnson’s Conservatives scored an astonishing general election win, relegating the Labour party to one of its worst defeats in history. The slogan “Get Brexit Done” had currency, and with it Labour’s Corbyn Project was smashed.

The result was quickly written up as one that would take Labour a decade to unpick at the least.

Just doesn't make sense, as that's not how investing in a business works.

You don't just give people money for nothing, so if not a portion of the business or the club, what are they going to own? The new stand?

Their investment is for a minority stake of V Sports, right? So I’m gonna assume they now own a small percentage of V Sports, which owns 100% of Aston Villa. It’s just the new investor has a small share of the holding company.

I’m also going to assume that their investment is relatively short-term. It’s a cash injection for club infrastructure, on the understanding that the club’s onward trajectory and higher value as a result (along with the increased value of Villa Park as an asset once redeveloped) will mean they get a higher return in the future.

To me, it just seems like a sensible alternative for NSWE to getting a loan with a high interest rate, or using their own money which will currently be giving them a nice juicy interest too.

Of course, they’re far better businessmen than me and I could be bang off, but this is how I’m reading into it.

  4. I’ve had a quick look through the threads and I can’t find anything similar…

Tonight wasn’t vintage and you could clearly see it was our fourth game in 10 days, but that City performance and then following it up with that? Wow.

For me, City was the best performance I’ve seen from a Villa team since my first game at VP in 2001/02 (Villa 2 - 0 Blackburn).

I’d be interested to hear from our older fans - where do our current performances rank amongst the greatest you’ve seen?

Yrs, his passing is tragic, but what on earth is the link between him and football, Nottingham or Villa. All this paying tribute to whatever starts to be a complete joke.

    He played for Nottingham Panthers?

Eh? I just don’t know what was happening that season so I’d love to know who our manager was 25 years ago. Just nice to know some Villa history.

It was John Gregory, and still our longest unbeaten run to start a season I believe. It came after we sold Yorke to Utd. “If I had a gun, I’d have shot him”.

I might be wrong and my seasons might be getting mixed up… I was a young whippersnapper and just starting to get interested in football. Dion Dublin and Julian Joachim were my gods. But I think that was it.

Cracking comeback. This a copy and paste job or did you type it put multiple times😂

Cracking comeback x2. Did you press ‘submit reply’ and then think ‘ahh shit, I wish I’d said that’?

Get behind the team and stop being a muppet, you might enjoy it. You’re the type of person who sits in the upper Doug, drinking their warm beer and moaning about how bright the floodlights are.

    Scapegoat? Wtf

He has been hopeless in nearly every appearance so far after giving it the big one to the Belgian media. He was also hopeless his last 18 months at Leicester and a key reason for relegation

    Have a rest buttercup.

Do you understand what scapegoat means?

    noun
    1. 1.
a person who is blamed for the wrongdoings, mistakes, or faults of others, especially for reasons of expediency.

Let me know if you need help with any of the words in that description that are over three syllables ☺️
  10. Here’s an idea, let’s not get on the back of a player clearly lacking in confidence and support him. He quite obviously had some footballing ability - anyone with half a brain cell can see that.

Why are some posters on here so obsessed with having a scapegoat?! Fickle b*stards.

Leon bailey is the second coming of Charles n'zogbia in a villa shirt. I've seen enough.

God he's so frustrating, so much talent and refuses to do anything but run at the nearest opposition player repeatedly until he loses the ball.

    You been drinking?

  12. I maintain that he’s a decent keeper. I think he’s more old school - a good shot stopper, but has limited attributes for the modern game.

I don’t think our season would be over if we had to rely on him for a long period of time, but I do think we’d need to change our approach and focus less on building from the back… which would be a crying shame.

He’s not going to be replaced in the immediate future, so we have to support him if/when he plays and understand we’re spoiled by having one of the world’s best keepers playing for us. Most would look far below Emi’s quality.
