Do you think Gray was a bit of a prick leaving one on Buendia or are you conveniently forgetting that?

He didn’t leave one him though.

he won the ball cleanly and buendia’s momentum took him into Gray.

looked far worse than it was. If I thought he’d gone to leave one on him I’d say, Bamford getting one back on your cb was worse.

I thought the Leeds fans saying he’s 16 was stupid, if he’s playing men’s football age doesn’t matter,

But still doesn’t make Mcginn any less of a prick.

nice you found your login after last season relegation battle

I look forward to the Leeds fans returning to Villatalk the official Leeds forum

You’re talking like villa fighting for Europe last season and weren’t lucky to escape relegation the other year through Hawkeye not working. You’ve not broke the top 10 yet. You’re very much where we are

That's my take on the "rivalry" too

Like I said wolves and Newcastle did the same while we were down there, you stick yourselves in with us and somehow it's created this social media battle over what's effectively a massive pissing contest and at the same time it elevates yourself

Everyone down there wanted to be bigger than villa, whats that tell you?

And it is a pissing contest, there's 6 big clubs in England and while we are all fighting with each other over the scraps those 6 pulled hundreds of millions per year away from us, spurs generate more annual revenue than us pair added together, how the **** did that happen?

Exactly, the way I look at big clubs isn’t about the money as that just skews things.

growing up in the 90’s for me spurs were nothing but a mid table team to me, but I understood they were a big club.

they had a history behind them decent size stadium and big support. That’s a big club to me not who’s got the most money.

same with the likes of leeds, villa everton, Newcastle spurs Man City  of the time as well.

Then you had the likes of man united Liverpool massive arsenal just behind

Chelsea and city have now artificially inflated themselves but I still really don’t see them bigger than I did in the 90’s

& even if clubs do get relegated that never changed the size of club to me, it just meant they had worse team with less money nothing else.

Leeds are not a big club.

Ok then, we still playing this game. If we weren’t there would have been all the fuss about us being back in the premier league, whether you’ll admit it to yourself or not we are as are villa no question just a bit of a bland one.

The way they played on Sunday,I cant see them staying up.They only had 1 decent player ( the GK )

This is very rose tinted you created 1 chance in open play which was the Watkins chance.

We had 3/4 chances that worked your keeper

In my opinion taking into consideration we’re not trying to be a possession team anymore we want to press you to give it away which worked 3/4 times. You might have had more ball but there wasn’t anything between the teams really.

With regards to the supposed rivalry.

Villa were always a meh team to me growing up big club well supported had no particular feeling one way or another with them. They were just there. Still are really. I don’t think many fans particularly care about villa either other than the midlands teams

obviously we are different the whole country seems to have a problem with us.

we all hate Leeds scum is sang everywhere  and yes that’s at old Trafford as well for those who say it’s a one sided rivalry.

I think it’s pretty much us both basically being big clubs well supported on the same trajectory for the last few years meaning we’re comparing ourselves off against each other.

As for the tackle I’m not mad about yes, McGinn is a bit of prick wanting to leave one on him but it doesn’t bother me, I prefer feisty games with a bit of edge.

but at the same time that’s why I didn’t like grealish or the whinging of him and dean smith and yes villa fans doing the exact same going mad over tackles on grealish that you’re taking the piss out of Leeds fans for now.

Not sure if we'd have a chance, but maybe. I don't think we would have done 6 months ago, but their fall from grace could present an opening if it continues, and he's a fantastic player, great to watch.

😂 fall from grace they are a point behind.

£50m for Ben White. Not even that - just shows where they are as a club they need to pay through the nose for average Brighton defenders.

Club is absolutely dusted as a mild PL force. They are done.

Depends on how you look at it in hindsight the Martinez signing looks worth it but you paid £20 million on a keeper that only played 15 games for arsenal and at 27 hadn’t played 100 games in his career most of which were in the lower league but at the time arsenal could have felt like you were paying way over the odds for a keeper that has barely played for them. But it as has worked out.

just people think you’ve paid over the odds for buendia who didn’t exactly shine in the prem with norwich

with white I’m certain he’ll prove to be money well spent so in the end arsenal will happy they did

The thought of Phillips starting against Italy scares me. He had a good first game against Croatia but every game since he's either been anonymous or, as per last night, an obvious weakness.

I get that he's a decent player with a lot of potential but there's no way he should be starting for England. He'll end up being sent off v Italy

Is also the fact people might find them out, like Sheffield United teams can ve one season wonders. I think they wont be that bad but its not impossible they are in a relegation battle

Or it could be that sheff United Barely scored goals in the first season, top scorer was sharp on 6. Then they signed players like Brewster who couldn’t score goals. So those 1-0 wins in the first season became 1-0 losses in the 2nd.

leeds have had no issue scoring goals this season. Even if they dried up a little next season that wouldn’t see them struggle as sheff United have

Leeds fans don’t like us because we are a threat to them. We get so much acclaim in the media for our owners, our facilities, our youth teams and our strategy. Whereas the media cannot talk about Leeds without dropping Bielsa’s name in to everything.

Haha don’t be daft if anything it’s the other way around... all we’ve heard this year is.. why is Bielsa getting praise what about the job Dean Smith is doing or we are they getting praise for losing 4-3 at anfield we beat the champions 7-2.

If anything it’s your fans that have the jealous streak that we stole your thunder doing so well on our first season back after both clubs suffering lows but it’s taken you 2 years to have a good season and us 1.

Leeds have spent she'd loads its it a myth they haven't.

How long did the 10 man advantage last tonight?

no it’s a myth that we have.

£27 million on Rodrigo who’s been in and out injured all season

    £20 on llorente who’s played 10 games.

£13 million on Koch who’s been injured for 3 months

£17 million on raphinha who’s played most of the time

the 2 other signings were players we had on loan last season.

    £5 million on mesisler

    £16 million on Costa.

so £77 million on 4 players that haven’t featured together all season.

& from reading your Leeds thread most seem to think our squad is poor and we’ll go the way sheff United have next year

how much have you spent in 2 years?

  13. Just now, VillaChris said:

Yes some like Dallas and Cooper have stayed and done much better than expected.

However you've moved others on like Barry Douglas who was regular in first 18 months of Bielsa and Foreshaw's another who's hardly featured, guessing injured as you haven't loaned him out.

Pablo Hernandez another with his age and everything that's had significantly less minutes than usual.

As much as he's a brilliant coach I'm not sure Bielsa would get Leeds anywhere near 10th if say he had Casilla in goal, Berardi somewhere in defence, Douglas at LWB, Forshaw in CM and Hernandez as number 10 as regular starters in prem. That is similar standard to us just sticking with likes of Nyland, Hutton, Whelan. Adomah etc.

I appreciate some of these points

but Douglas was a regular for the first half of Bielsa’s first season got injured the 2nd season he wasn’t first choice. That was either allioski or Dallas who are still playing now.

mesilier was with us last season and played the last 8 games of last season

berardi was injured in the final game of the season only just got fit

forshaw has been injured for almost 2 years but klitch who plays the same position has been at Leeds for 4 years.

I will agree on Hernandez but he’s been replaced by Rodrigo who’s been injured on and off all season so we are currently playing Tyler roberts who has been with us for 4 years as well.

We brought in 2 CB’s in the summer 1 llorente has only managed 7 starts the other Koch has been injured for 3 months. So we’ve spent the season playing with ayling and either Cooper or strujk who both have been with us for years.

the only signing that wasn’t here with us last season that has consistently played is raphina

  14. On 10/04/2021 at 22:33, VillaChris said:

I think what goes against DS a bit is rightly or wrongly people from outside in media and general perception is the money he's spent. 100m the summer we went up and then another 80m on top last summer. And Grealish.

Of course we all know we simply had to do it given we had about 5 serious prem players in our whole squad when we went up but people will probably compare to other managers who've come up in recent times and not spent that much.

It's ironic with Leeds as they've largely established themslves without any of their big money signings playing that much, Llorente hardly played until start of Feb, Robin Koch been injured for months and Rodrigo seems largely out of favour now, those three were 70m I think. Just Raphinnia been the unqualified success so far

But isn’t this the argument. Bielsa got the best out of a “championship” squad and has currently 10th where as yourselves felt it necessary to spend big on the squad and smith barely kept you up. What would smith have done with your championship team?

Its not a fluke but they were very lucky. Its a fairly standard way to play against teams like this Manchester City. We did it for a long time and were eventually undone by a goal that should have been offside.

9 times out of 10 City stick the ball in the back of the net a few times and win that game comfortably. On this occasion they didn't and then were too open for the counter attack at the end of the game.

Its a good win for Leeds but any suggestion that its some sort of Bielsa masterclass is pretty laughable. Pretty much every team in the division will go to the Etihad and play in that same way. Even this season West Brom have taken a point from the Etihad with largely the same game plan.

You do realise that we were playing the same way we’d played all season and were winning until we went down 10 and were forced to play more conservative.

Personally I think it's because rice doesn't show for the ball enough or is good enough a passer, rice is better when the opposition have the ball Phillips is better when we do

    You don't need both

You definitely don't need both vs Albania

Also doesn't help that Phillips either doesn't have enough confidence or Southgate has a huge leash on him, he's a better player for Leeds

The Leeds system revolves around Phillips so allows him to get more involved.

Phillips at 8 is basically where Henderson will play if fit so doesn’t give more creativity really but against the better sides gives more protection.

Why would any manager want the oppositions best player by a country mile to play?  If he doesn’t care about the opposition why does he send voyeurs to watch them train?

He didn’t say he didn’t care about the opposition. He wants his to team be the best he doesn’t say he wants to do it against the easiest opposition.

When he was at Newell’s if teams didn’t have tapes of his team for scouting he would send them the tapes.

he doesn’t hide how we play it’s always the same. If it’s not working he won’t change it. His plan B is do plan A better.

  18. 1 hour ago, Vive_La_Villa said:

If you believe he means that then you’ll believe   anything TRO!

I bet you think he would have allowed us to score even if they needed the points as well.

He definitely means. Why do you think he doesn’t change his style & is called “naive”. He wants to win in what his mind is the beautiful way to attack from the front.

everyone knows how we play & he’s happy to say this is what we are let’s see if you can stop it.

it’s the same reason he announces his lineup in the week before games. He’s nothing to hide.

Leeds are this season's Sheffield United. I agree they will struggle next season.

Very easy and lazy comparison to make. Sheff United stayed up with their top scorer getting 6 all season.

they added to it with an unproven young player in Brewster.

Leeds with the way the play have plenty of goals in them due to the way they play. So they won’t struggle worrying where their next goal is coming from. Even if they don’t hit the heights of this season they’ll still create and score enough to get enough wins. Remember if they play defensicely and draw 3 games or play attacking and win 1 of 3 they still have the a same amount of points, so losing games doesn’t effect them. Attack is the best form of defence Add to that any players they bring in.

defensively both centre backs we signed have been injured for months. Meaning fullbacks have been playing CB, midfielders have played at both fullbacks. That won’t be the same next season

Don't remember us getting much praise when we were smashing one off the underside of the bar at 8-0 against Chelsea in 2012.

If you're losing 6-2 you don't deserve praise because your game plan hasn't worked.  Don't begrudge praise when it's due but it's as if the commentators are instructed to blow smoke up Leeds' arse no matter what.

You weren’t a promoted team in 2012 you were an under performing premier league team.

Have you missed all the criticism we’ve had for being naive as well

  21. 17 hours ago, DCJonah said:

Not at all. We didn't deserve to be spoken about last season. We were awful for large periods.

I would like Smith to get more credit but that doesn't impact my dislike for the wank fest over Biesla. Smith would manager of the Month and has been getting loads of plaudits this year and I'm still sick of hearing about the myth of Biesla.

And its a shame it is so over the top because it takes away from the credit he actually deserves. But I'm not going to listen to that when Sky wouldn't stop praising him for losing a game and conceding 6 goals.

But this is what is lost on most fans. The reason for the praise wasn’t because we lost and conceded 6. It was praise for the mentality of still going to score & not accepting that they had been soundly beaten. We could have gone there set up not to lose & lost 3/4/5-0. But we set up to try to win the game yes we got beat 6-2 but we went to win. The media either looks at it 2 ways either it’s naive & not the done thing in the top flight or it’s refreshing to see a team of “championship cloggers” go toe to toe yes get beat 6-2 but come away thinking you know we could have had 6 ourselves.

It’s like this if we set up to defend in the usual way and lost 1/2-0 every week in tight games but didn’t look like scoring that is more worrying that taking it to teams creating loads of chances & winning games but being susceptible to taking hammerings every now and again. Yes the risk is worth the reward.

are Leeds greater than the sum of their parts yes and that is down to Bielsa that’s why he gets the praise. This board will rate everyone of your players above ours but you’re only 3 points in front that’s because of bielsa setting up to win games & not setting up not to lose.

A post earlier said ayling is a clogger so if that’s the case why are you saying they’ve only won 9 games as though it’s a bad thing.

  22. On 01/02/2021 at 14:37, DCJonah said:

Its their fans that have made me dislike them so much. As you say, good to watch and seem to play exciting football.

To be fair to them, they've been irrelevant for so long. Us falling to their level in the championship, got them all upset because they could no longer pretend to be the biggest club. Now they've been promoted they've wasted no time being the words removed of the league.

Or on the flip side your fans don’t like the praise Bielsa & Leeds get as you feel that praise should be put on yourselves. For your triumphant return to the premier league. It clearly grates on your fans

The number of posts I’ve seen saying but what about the job Dean Smith is doing whenever Bielsa gets praised. Even your ex players have done it Gabby Agbonlahor & Stan collymore to name 2.
