    What.

    Is this aimed at me?

It’s not, no. It’s aimed at those who believe that, unless you are a Club insider, no one is in a position to criticise him.

It's starting to seem like EVERY manager we have had in recent memory has a problem with making changes ffs.

With subs or formation? If the former, I don’t think it matters who he brings on really, as there is such little quality in depth.

People were saying the same about the dreadful, hopeless squad when Bruce was in charge.

Difference is though, I think this is actually these players playing at their max. I don’t think they were with Bruce. They are just not good enough, technically or physically.

Your critism isn't entirely justified, because apart from you not being happy with what's happened so far, you don't have a **** clue what's going on at the club. You don't know what Suso has done, is doing, has spoken about, has spoken to or anything, you just make shit assumptions about him because we haven't signed a striker yet.

If you want a striker that anyone or any club is willing to sell in the first few days of a window, you'd be crying about how shit that striker was after 15 mins of his debut having not scored a hat trick.

As I said previously, it's obvious you don't understand how these things work.  You obviously don't have any commercial nous, you obviously don't have any insider knowledge and to be honest it's obvious you don't have even basic knowledge on how DOFs operate, but keep posting like you do.. 😒Far too many completely uninformed assumptions you’re making here to unpick, so I won’t bother educating you, save for your  last point.

There are far too many completely uninformed assumptions there to unpick, and I don’t have the patience to educate you, save for picking up on your last point. It’s also ironic that you’re exhibiting exactly what you are accusing me of.

A DoF is there to oversee and execute on the transfer strategy. Yes, there is input from other people, but it his responsibility for execution. The shortlist of players is there, having been collectively decided by the club, and his role is to find a way of getting them in.

It’s also a shame you can’t comprehend the basics of what I’ve tried to explain to you. I’ll try once more and really try and make it as simple as possible for you: no one is questioning or doubting the effort he may or may not be putting in, but what is objectively undeniable is that he has been ineffective during a period of crisis, in terms of actually delivering. For that, there is one sole criteria: bringing in accretive players that improve the starting 11.

If you still can’t grasp that, then please, continue with resorting to your usual go to rebuttals of “you’re not a Club insider” rather than actual debate, which seems beyond you. Based on your comments, it’s posters like you that really bring down the average on here.

I’m genuinely curious as to what any one at the club would have to do in order for the happy clappers to tolerate any criticism or allow any debate.

Not really....just like on a computer game, you want instant success in purchasing a player....you think that it is the same in the real world....I would suspect that Suso has been working from early morning to late at night trying to express interests and negotiate!

As usual, you’re making things up.

I’ve repeatedly said that he should have been lining up players before January, given how obvious it was needed. That’s not ‘instant’ by any stretch.

  6. Drawing analogies with computer games is a strange one. No one has said that January is easy and that players can just be signed.

Likely this is just the ‘go to’ thing to say for the Happy Clappers when they don’t like hearing justified criticism. Just like ‘you’re not the Coach’ and ‘you’re not a Club insider’.

It’s actually perfectly rational to expect signings to be made, especially when we have a dedicated DoF that has known reinforcements have been needed since the Summer and that we are in DESPERATE need of a striker. When that doesn’t materialise after nearly a third of the window passing and with two entirely winnable games this month, the criticism is entirely justified.

Yes, January is difficult and, yes, he might be working hard. But this is a results industry. You don’t get points for effort.

Not wierd at all, im calling you out as you have stated that there are a **** ridiculous amount of strikers willing to come.  Which I think is utter bollocks.

I asked you to back it up, and you cant so...... therefore you need to accept that your claims and opinion will be challenged.

If it were a professional scout saying that our staff were useless because there were all these great strikers practically falling over themselves to come here, I would indeed ask them, but it's not a professional scout saying it, it is you, so I am asking you.

Clearly you cant answer the question to back up your ranting, so I will treat your posts with the contempt they deserve.

    Jog on yourself good sir.

You’re being harsh and intolerant on this Poster. Makes you sound weird.

This is a place for opinions and discussion and is not going to be underpinned by first hand insight into what is going on. For that, I suggest you follow the more informed journalists and the better newspapers out there.

100% of the views here are going be anecdotal and from an outside-in perspective. IT IS A FAN DISCUSSION BOARD, where OPINION is expressed.

I’m also beginning to think VT is a safe place for insecure Happy Clappers to lurk. Anything that is said against their delicate view immediately gets met with hostility.

Yes you’ve changed my mind. You obviously know better than professional football management staff about how easy it is to buy a good striker in our position. I suggest you get your CV over to club ASAP, it sounds like you could really make a difference there.

This is what annoys me about VT. A complete intolerance for actual debate.

This is a prime example of one poster elaborating an argument and then another poster who happens to disagree reverting to a childish rebuttal. Far too often on here, if someone disagrees, out come the classic “you don’t work in the game” or “you are not the Manager”, etc. That doesn’t preclude you from having a view.

Mods should really crack down on it as it is painful to see. These threads are Discussion Topics, not just a safe place for Happy Clappers. I suggest you engage with that.

I don't know how you can be so vehement that hes bad at his job when you dont know what he actually does

What's suso done this week? If the answer is I don't know then you can't say "**** all" or he's not doing it right

Well, if he is working hard and no players are coming in, then that shows he is completely ineffective.

How hard he is working isn’t really a proxy for success. There’s only one metric: calibre of players coming in.

I’m not denying that the January market is difficult. But, he needs to deliver because of our predicament.

It’s fine for it to be legitimate but that doesn’t change the fact we have a reputation in the game as a fanbase ho will get on their players’ backs and make it easier for the opposition. This is a definite thing that two former Premier League players have told me separately. It’s the last thing the opposition say before they come on the pitch against us - take control of the first 15 mins and this crowd will turn on the team and heads will drop.

Conversely, of course, our management need to recognise this and work hard to dominate that first 15 mins - even if we are then blowing out of our arses later. I wonder if this is why we concede so many late goals.

Anyway, I don’t think there is any way to change it.

That’s interesting that you’ve heard it first hand from actual players. I had heard opposition Managers say that in post match interviews.

The other thing that makes me not mind the fans giving players a hard time on occasion, is that without the fans cons  TS a rly reminding the club and players about expectation levels, we would have folded years ago. I suppose, in recent years, there has just been a fundamental mismatch between stature of the club, standards/expectations of the fan base and the actual quality of players on the pitch.

imagine being a Fan that has seen us win Leagues and European trophies to now have to see Neil Taylor or Elmohamady play.

  11. It would be far, far more effective for Purslow just to engage directly with Agents. Pay them a buyside/success fee.

Suso has just not been anywhere near effective enough - its predicaments like this where you’d really need him to step up - and has shown appalling judgement, on balance.

Anyone who looks at Wesley, Targett or Trezeguet and think that the DoF role has been successful, should really question themselves.

  12. Criticism has been entirely legitimate, most of the time, especially when it is motivated by a complete lack of effort.

There are an abundance of Happy Clappers on here that will always be against players receiving criticism, though.

So Suso receives praise for signing Mings, Hause, Konsa, Heaton et al too then? And then when Douglas finally plays next to an experienced head and flourishes he get's another tick in the box.

I'm fine with this tbh. I also think giving his summer signings till January, with an injury riddled squad and a manager who unperformed himself for 6 weeks is a bit unfair IMO.

He has a big job ahead of this January again, let's see how he performs. A year ago he found the missing piece.

Yes, but he’s still net neutral because he wasted £50M on Wesley, Targett and Trezeguet. Thats why I suspect he isn’t being trusted with money this January.

  14. No, no, no. Pure nostalgia.

Why would he give up a strong contract at Palace to play on a heavily-incentivised one? We already know he is a mercenary and was previously contemplating playing in China.

We're doing this again... They ALWAYS say this. So far as we know Suso and Deano work together. If there is any praise/blame to be levelled for our our summer business it goes to both of them. Unless we are saying Smith receives no praise whatsoever for the signings he supposedly didn't make when they become quality Premier League players?

I think given the circumstances our signings under Suso have been remarkably decent on the whole. Yes the squad is incomplete, yes injuries have rocked us, but none of that is Suso's fault IMO. He inherited an absolute mess and signing an entire first XI in one summer is always going to throw up challenges.

It’s unlikely to be Smith as he worked very effectively under the same structure at Brentford.

Hmm, yes, the real world is just like it is on Football manager.

What do you do if your target doesnt want to come or the selling club don't want to let him go? What if there is a delay for some reason? Do you move to your second choice instantly? What if the primary choice is not available until the end of the window do you get an inferior player instead? What if the deal is lined up but the selling club need to get someone in first?

You can't just snap your fingers and make the players appear. Amazon Prime do not supply premier league footballers.

Lack of people arriving does not mean people are sat on their arses or that they are crap at their jobs.

By that logic, there is absolutely zero point in having a DoF, then.

You either don’t comprehend this, or are just choosing to ignore it, but the point I’m making is that signings should have been buttoned up before January. It has been clear  to everyone that those wingers we bought in the Summer are not cut out to compensate for having a striker that does not score goals.  We’ve known that for ages and he should have been working hard outside of the window to get it done.

I don’t see how having a DoF has been of any advantage to us whatsoever.

  17. 4 minutes ago, TheStagMan said:

Define better? That's quite a statement when you have no idea what they were in the first place.

By the simple criteria that, given our predicament, we should have signed a striker or a set of wingers.

  18. 9 minutes ago, villa4europe said:

and how does he engineer a deal for piatek if piatek has 0 interest in signing for us?

how does he engineer a deal for benteke if palace will only sell him after they've signed a striker themselves?

Because his first approach should not be a highly reactive one in January. He should have been far more pro-active and sussed things out beforehand. Its not like he has other distractions like coaching.

  19. 6 minutes ago, villa4europe said:

what im saying is that we cant just go sign the first striker available for whatever sum of money the selling club demand and then force any player we like to come play for us

the notion that us not signing a striker yet reflects solely on suso is wrong and a bit unfair, its not that simple

I'm not saying we should. What I'm saying is that, as a DoF, he should be working prior to January to engineer deals. Its not like he only gets switched on in January.

For example, we always knew we needed more than Wes and also desperately need PL standard wingers. He is the DoF and is fully cognisant of the restraints the January market has, so how to manoeuvre in this market should have been better planned.

the inability of fans to consider the fact other teams have their own concerns and real life isn't like championship manager never ceases to annoy me. Unless you have the money to blow clubs out of the water and just get on with it ( and even then it's rare ) this is not an easy time to sign players. It's like buying a house, sometimes there are long chains and you have to wait for all the deals to line up

Then what is the point of a DoF? If he can't engineer deals, then what are we paying him for?
