  1. Faria is still in the running too I reckon.

Hear that a few people had some very significant bets on that late last week (which explains the price crashing in)....I always believe there to be truth in wacky rumours, in fact the more insane the link, the more smoke there usually is. Faria really is one from left field, won't be surprised if it happens.

IF we manage to lure Fonseca here I'd be elated. If he could bring in the Shakthar scouting network with him even better :)

Well we did clear all of ours out a few weeks back didn't we?

So he has turned down the Premier League to STAY at Shaktar but he isn't out of our league?

That makes him the very definition of out of our league.

He didn't turn down 'the premier league'....he turned down Everton and West Ham.

Will we appeal his red card? It wasn't even a certain penalty for me so a red card was over the top.

I didn't think a red card was given now aswell as a penalty? that said, not sure there is much to appeal other than that.

His positioning in the build up to the goal was shocking...that ultimately was the issue.

  5. What about Quique Sanchez Flores?....Apologies if been discussed already, haven't read through all 122 pages of this thread I'm afraid!

I remember him doing a super job at Watford....surely he could work with the squad we now have?

  6. Villa Twitter whispers that the deal has hit a snag.....most likely over wages percentage.....but Silva has said something in a press conference this afternoon that suggests he is open to keeping him at Everton.

But Taylor is shit, Tuanzebe is shit, Elphick is shit and RDL is average.

Based on performances in a Villa shirt, Jedinak is a much better option than Tuanzebe and Elphick at CB.
I'll acknowledge that Axel MIGHT be better, long term. But he's yet to show that he's ready to be a first choice CB.

Also Hutton is a much better option at LB than Taylor.

A CB is definitely needed, however. Jedinak is a better option than Tuanzebe, but he's not good enough to be our first choice.

    Wow!

Be very please with this one, and not to change the subject but we need a defender or 2?

Would be nice, but the fact is if Bruce played people in their correct positions, we probably have enough to be ok till Jan at least. Taylor at LB, De Laet at RB then either of Tuanzebe or Elphick alongside Chester and we wouldn't be that much weaker than most championship teams at the back. Hutton can cover just fine at LB and clearly we have plenty of cover at RB. Tuanzebe is highly rated as a centre back I believe....let's bloody play him there and see. Must be a better option than Jedinak?

If we could knab a first choice centre back to partner Chester that would be perfect, but if we don't then I am only worried about the conker's team selections, not the players!

I had a feeling when I saw the dealings shaping up but now, I'm 100% sure Bruce will be deploying the extremely innovative and revolutionary 'Spider Formation'

Just to be totally sure, as it is a Bruce team....and your artwork, although ingeniously symmetrical, doesn't make it totally clear.....Is Kodija or Nyland in goal?

Indeed, if the League allow us to double up with Green and Adomah on the wings in addition to the starting 11 then I'd certainly fancy our chances!

If we catch them in the right mood, they may even let us play half a dozen or so of our GK's too....should keep the scores down and give us a chance with 7 behind the ball to nick one on the counter!

I know it'll likely be a loan, but it will be funny if we manage to get Fulham's first choice LB signing after they nicked their second choice Bryan from under our noses. Maybe they did us a favour if they think he's better :D

I'll be honest and admit I know little of either player. But Joe Bryan played a ball into the box for a Fulham goal at the weekend, the like's of which I simply can't remember seeing from a Villa left back in donkeys years. I really wish he had joined us....if Targett is as good as that, he'll do for me!

I heard there was something but not been able to get the detail........

The deadline for loan signings falls on the familiar date of August 31, but this applies only to EFL clubs. No Premier League sides can take advantage of this later deadline.

EFL sides can sign players on loan with an option to agree a permanent move when the next window opens.

EFL sides can sign free agents up until the August 31 deadline. Premier League sides cannot, as again, they are not permitted to do any business after August 9.

Yeah it quite complex but think finance and football is complex also. The thing is teams like Rotherham or Birmingham City ? cannot compete with clubs the size of Villa or Leeds with or without FFP regulation. Interestingly Derby County owner, Melvyn Morris, agrees with you that it too complex, he believes that a simple fail or pass system based on profit/loss and a universally set wage budget those that adhere to it get an extra 5 points at the end of the season.

    I saw that last night...what a buffoon!

I'd go hell for leather, spend as much as necessary to win the league by 10pts....let everyone else get their bonus 5, and wave as we leave them behind!

I'm not overly keen on us getting Nmecha or any young strikers in fact. In that situation I'd prefer we give RHM/Davis the chances.

We need to take anyone that is likely to improve us. Not seen anything of Nmecha, but the liklihood is that he will be an upgrade on both of those 2. You never know, we might play all 3...Nmecha and RHM dovetailing off Davis!

Another one that can go. I like him, he does an ok job but generally his final ball is piss poor. Of course he has games where everything comes off, but over a season not that many in reality.

If we want to go up.....and stay up....we need better quality in wide areas in my opinion.

edit: reading that again...may be being a bit harsh, he is better than how I've written that. Just thinking that we need better if we want to be better. I don't see him having a better season than last season.....and again, any coincidence that his form improved when Kodija was out injured?

No objections to him staying, but would definitely sell if the offer came in

I would be tempted if we can line up a replacement.

I'd get shot of him replacement or no replacement. His whole attitude is wrong for me. His body language and constant faking of injuries....no thanks!

Davis has proven himself capable of leading the line at this level, he will be better this season. RHM really impressed last night, albeit against a poor side for 20mins. We also have Hogan.

Another one on loan would be great, but if Kodija plays most of this season in that striker role, I guarantee we won't make the playoffs.

Abraham comparitively struggled a bit last year, but he's still very young and was often isolated in a poor Swansea team.

He has bags of potential, can play on his own or with a partner, has all the physical characteristics and would suit us. I can see him linking well with Green, Grealish, Adomah and hopefully Snodgrass.

I really hope we land this one.

Young player. in a struggling team. 5 goals on the face of it doesn't look great but that kid has a lot of potential as you say. Would be a coup I think if we could get him.

Personally don't want Snodgrass back. Adomah on his stronger side and Green back down the left will do for me. If we want another winger, I'd go and try to get Jordan Graham back from Wolves. It was a crime to sell him!

I have a feeling Woods signing wont be being done to compliment Grealish!

Its also not really a Steve Bruce signing!

Why? I think Grealish would flourish alongside a player of that ilk. He may not have to run 15km per match tracking back all game! He may actually be able to stay further forward and get on the ball in the areas that will hurt the opposition, if he has a player behind him that can play at the level Woods can.

Doyle-Hayes isn't ready to play a major role yet. Let's be sensible. He is very good, and he has a really bright future. Bringing Woods in will not block his path, he needs time to develop. He's a  perfect understudy to a Ryan Woods in my view.
