It really is crazy. He is decent going forward so I wonder if Sam will play him as a winger instead maybe. Crazy money for what is essentially a bang average player.

Allardyce has always liked attacking left backs and generally got the best out of them, young Cresswell, Warnock, Jose Enrique and Ricardo Gardner all arguably played their best football under him. PVA despite being awful defensively was excellent for Sunderland towards the end of last season too and played a major role in them staying up.

Palace being desperate for a left back is probably part of the reason the price is high too though.

I was thinking Westwood for Ashley Barnes at Burnley!!

Dean Marney is out long term and there was rumours in the past about them wanting Westwood. Would be a good move for all parties but mostly Villa. Barnes would be a good workhorse to have behind Kodjia.

Westwood would benefit from a fresh start and Dyche has a good record of improving players (Stephen Ward has turned solid, Lowton doesn't get embarrassed defensively, Joey Barton is civilised there etc.)

Linked with a loan move for Max Gradel.

This would be a top signing and the only player we've been linked with so far I am genuinely excited about except maybe Hourihane to a lesser degree.

Assuming the injury he got didn't destroy him.

Barrow although he has had some good days for Swansea doesn't appeal to me as it is a bad sign that in the middle of a relegation battle they are letting him go while still starting Routledge.

Another striker isn't urgent for me as we will probably be playing 5 in midfield and Ayew can be moved back up front as backup to Kodjia. Gabby will do in an emergency, the midfielders can do the scoring in that scenario.

Testosterone suppressant for his new barnet has wrecked the latter stages of his career.

He was never Messi/Ronaldo, but he was comfortably top 10 forwards in the world for the most of his career.

Being undroppable for England, despite hideous form, hasn't helped him in my eyes. Many will not remember how good he was.

I was shocked when I learned he was on propecia, absolute insanity for a professional athlete.

He could have been a better player if he looked after himself better, he was on the same level as Ronaldo in their early years although completely different players.

  5. He has turned into Alan Hanson, whether that is good or not I'm not sure. Danny Murphy is the opposite, started off promising but quickly descended into Lawrenson.

I blame Murdoch's populist model and the premier league for the dip in quality to be honest, the rest just follow suit. The old(er) school of presenters, pundits and commentators had charisma and character and were not afraid to call it as they see it, the wave we have now are predominately children of the premier league era, brainwashed by blandness and are subconscious salesmen for an increasingly poor quality product that is the premier league. The ones who are from a past era, but have comfy seats on Sky are not willing to upset the gravy train they are riding on. I remember seeing Souness on RTE once, he was far more 'unplugged' and scathing than I've ever seen him on sky.

Souness doesn't go on RTE anymore, Dietmer Hamann replaced him and he is quite good too. The analysis on RTE can be a bit ridiculous and repetitive at times with Dunphy trying to outdo himself but there was a period a few years ago where it was usually more entertaining than the match itself.

    A good example of Souness

If that was the BBC Lineker wouldn't let a discussion take place.

Also on RTE they used to take the piss out of the BBC quite a bit too. Apres match being part of the coverage.

  7. Still hit the crossbar with a great header and looked threatening at times though, When Allardyce sorts out getting a couple of new defenders in and Zaha comes back they will stay up easily enough with Benteke due to go on a good run at some stage.

  8. I'm nervously excited about this. There is the doubt about why he ended up dropping down the divisions and couldn't make it at Sunderland and Ipswich but when you see the type of frame he had it explains why he was a late developer.

  9. A huge amount of full backs these days are converted wingers, it makes sense considering he will be behind Green in the pecking order as a winger but still can be useful.

The club can't continue squandering youth.

he had signed a contract but apparently Milan said his teeth were bad that they could bring spinal injuries further down the line

in hindsight that doctor was a genius ;)

He reckoned wisdom teeth were the reason Seedorf was getting injured before joining Milan, always sounded like a bit of a spoof covering up a more obvious method of keeping players ultra fit well into their 30's.

I'd agree on Cissokho, he will be more useful in any team apart from Villa.
