    Not sure how reliable but...

If you look at the rest of his tweets he seems pretty legit. Calling team news for several teams before they've been posted.

That wink does not revoke the reddit incel tone of your post I'm afraid. I had read all the posts, but I still thought it was worth making a little joke about it. About how Tielemans looked to everyone like he had a bad game but seems to have had good stats which was an ideal opportunity to quote 1984. The quote actually refers to 'the party', but that didnt make sense, so I had to make a choice between 'the stats' and 'Indigo'. I thought Indigo was better.

It was a little joke that was not particularly funny, but I meant no offence.

None taken! Apart from the "incel" jibe, mild offence taken there.

Indigo told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears

This wonderful attempt at patronisation would have hit harder if I hadn't literally clarified that I wasn't suggesting what you've said I was here immediately afterwards. An admirable try though, maybe use your eyes and read a little further down next time.😉

    You watched though didn't you?

Do you think he played well?

I didn't post it as a gotcha to any criticisms, genuinely just thought it was interesting (assuming it's accurate) relative to some of the chat around the performance. Thought he played fine, did some good things but overall not particularly great either which is reflective of his time at Villa thus far. Have said it previously but I'm worried about his physicality/athleticism more so than anything else, he looks miles off it in that sense and I'm not sure how likely he is to go through some kind of transformation to make it significantly less of an issue.

    He's supposedly an international

I think you mean he's literally an international player? There's no supposing necessary when he's called up to every single squad.

Anyway, "settling in" can refer to a new team, so teammates, coach(ing staff), tactics etc that you've never played with before, and how you slot into that, not simply getting used to the weather and working out what supermarket you're going to shop in. I hope for your sake you're right about him though, committed to it so would be a shame if he ended up proving to be a passable football player.

  6. Feel like the level of stick he's getting is a bit mad. He's only just signed and hasn't had much of a look-in because his most obvious place in the team is currently occupied by arguably Villa's best player. I worry about what seems to be a total lack of physical attributes from him, but there's clearly a player there based on his track record and even certain moments since he's signed, it's just about getting it out of him more consistently over the course of a game.

Feels like he's just the guy to pick on now. Happened with Luiz, Mings and more too yet I'm sure much of the same people that wrote them off then/now fawn over them since it came together for them. It's a fickle game.

  7. I think part of Tielemans' problem so far is that when he's been particularly poor like against Everton he was playing in that advanced midfield role that just doesn't suit him at all because he has no physicality or athleticism to his game. Pretty confident he'll be a lot better playing more so in the midfield as he will be tonight.

  8. Frustrating that the start of the season has been such a write-off for him, felt like the game tonight, Everton in the cup etc would have been great opportunities for him. Assuming this evening will be too soon for him to get any minutes, but encouraging that he's back in training all the same.

  9. Apologies if this has been posted elsewhere but it felt like the most relevant place to put it.

Just appreciated the credit that Emery and Villa got here, especially as given that most of the stuff I watch/listen to reacted to the game by discussing either mostly Brighton or where Watkins or Ramsey could move to next which was a bit grim.

  10. He's always been labelled as underrated but I think he actually is more so now despite playing at his best ever level and getting more credit from the wider football public than previously, that's just how good he's actually playing right now. He's gone from a solid defender that probably played within himself too much to now being an excellent all-rounder. Funny how it works that he went from looking a bit reliant on Mings' qualities to help him out previously, to in Mings' absence stepping up and filling that void in terms of leadership, organisation etc. I thought in the first half in particular today he was fantastic.

Using the logic in here from last week, he is currently on course for 66 goals this season based on the last 2 games.

Those are the stats. You cannot argue with the stats.

  12. It's incredibly frustrating. The draw tonight ending up with United-Newcastle, West Ham-Arsenal and Liverpool-Borunemouth makes it all the more disappointing because there was such a clear pathway to the later stages and when you're in that mix you never know. Easy to say "we won't win a cup anyway" but I'd rather the performances weren't reflective of that mentality. It's been so long since we won anything that I don't think anyone from coaching staff to players to fans can really justify being in anyway dismissive of cup competitions.

  13. Another issue I think we have is that in a time in football where many of the top teams have such an emphasis on general athleticism, pace and power, we're somewhat going the opposite way. When games get a bit gritty like tonight you really see that so many of the squad are slow and easily bullied, which doubly doesn't help matters when some of them out there clearly aren't well suited to the system.

As a side note can we also please get another right back in ASAP.

  14. Outside of the Hibs games we've been bizarrely shite in non-PL affairs thus far under him. Obviously not the biggest deal in the world if the league is going as well as it has been but it's quite disappointing given you'd think we should at worst be progressing through ties like tonight and at least being able to make a fist of things in the latter stages of competitions.

  15. I think playing him in one of those attacking roles is mad behaviour. Not sure he's ever had the physicality to do it, much less nowadays. Not that he didn't have a shocker regardless but I think he's kind of set up to fail if he's playing in that position, if he's not in the more central/deeper role then I don't think there's a place for him in this set-up.
