Well, given Palace's potential signings today I'd be surprised if Bannan even made the squad going forward. Wouldn't surprise me if they got rid... I would be surprised if he decided to swap the Palace bench for the Swansea one though.

Whoever wrote the article has obviously come across this thread because of the sheer comedy factor. The fact they are running it as a joke in an article shows how wrong Con is about Bannan.

Palace were a very good team prior to Dougie Freedman leaving to join Bolton and Holloway took over. He took them over top of the league and on course for winning the league. Won no more than a handful of games and stumbled over the play-off line.

They continued that form into this season and he resigned. It is no surprise to me they are now doing better than people thought they would.

Pulis has taken a good team and solidified them. Chances are they will now stay up.

Plus he dropped Bannan and they keep winning. (Sorry... couldn't resist it!)

Con, you consistently pointed out Villa were better with him in the side. Now that someone pointed out that Palace are better without him, you (correctly) admitted that there are way more factors than one player that go into this. Which totally invalidates the points you made last year.

 

Also, I've shown already in this thread that Villa's best form period during the 12/13 season occurred with Bannan in the team and that the up-tick in form toward then end of the season was not when Bannan was dropped - he started in two of the winning games during the late form period.

So basically red all to the 2 easiest games in the season against QPR and Reading. He played awfully in these games followed by the worst performance I've ever witnessed from any Villa player against Liverpool (where he played Suarez clean through on goal TWICE in one game) and got dropped. We then go on excellent form, only losing to top quality teams, and continue that form into this season.

If there is no relation then obviously although his pass rate is good his key pass success rate is very poor and he is no Bannan.

Bent wasn't a good signing. For that price multiple quality players could've been brought in that would've both helped the club stay up and helped in the long term. He was a waste of money.

I wonder if you had that opinion of Bent during the summer after he saved us from relegation. I very much doubt it.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but it is a fairly strong argument to say that Bent saved us over £100m due to the fact his goals kept us in the league. Most other signings don't come close to generating that kind of revenue.

The fact that Bannan is having his best season and still can't get into the leagues relegation favorites team should tell you everything you need to know.

Both of his assists are resulting from improperly defended under hit corners. He could have been playing in goal and if he was on corner taking duty they'd still have happened.

However, you take a few games where Bannan has been told to be the main man (and failed) and Mata has been played out of his position and not to his strengths in the slightest. He is Championship standard... this is why he might be able to get assists in that division... because the defending is incredibly lax... as witnessed on Saturday by the appaulling defending from those woeful corners he put in.

I think you will find that they were vicious, but in a subtle way so that only a trained eye can see quite how vicious they were.

He must have also known that the first defender each time is going to completely fluff the clearance... a clearance you would expect school boys to make.

Two terrible corners... both of them scuffed and bouncing before it gets into the danger area. Uwe Rosler must be fuming about that goal... they had so many chances to clear the danger.

Any decent team would have defended these with no issues at all and is probably why Bannan fails at the Premier League level... his crosses are far to easy to defend against.

Nope, I didn't say anything of the sort and from memory I don't think anyone else did either. I thought Palace would win today even though I expected Bannan to play. Turns out he did play and they didn't win... the polar opposite of their last match.

The "assist" from what I hear was a corner and a lot of mess and a fumble into the net. I doubt it would go down as an assist if that is the case.
