Best eleven if we got all our main targets, including last season

    -----------------Heaton--------------

    Cash---Konsa--Mings--Targett

    -----------------Phillips-------------------

    ---------------McGinn--Luiz---------------

    Watkins-------Maupay-------Grealish

Surely Rashica would be somewhere, maybe Edouard. Also definitely Webster over Konsa/Engels and perhaps Butland over Heaton 😀

Rashica plays on the right side, does he not? He wouldn’t be taking up Grealish’s position on the left.

No, Rashica usually plays on the left, exactly where Jack played for most of last season.

The wages isn't the point. That's not the main reason he is coming to Everton.

Yes yes it's the wages, nothing else.

My point is if they could offer the same wages and Dean Smith or Chris Hughton were their manager. Allan and Rodriguez would not come to Everton.

No if we could offer the same wages they'd have come to Villa because they think Smith > Ancelotti.

See, I can make shit up too.

It is quite common in basketball likely due to heavy impacts and larger size. But yeah I think it was his pcl as as the rupture probably due to his large size and existing leg troubles it may have been easier to injure than normal.

PCL injuries are definitely not common in basketball. ACL yes. ACL tears when landing badly and knee twisting. PCL is injured on heavy direct impact.

They have a similar time frame for recovery and they are both knee ligaments. Tearing your pcl is a very rare injury in football and therefore an ACL is the closest equivalent.

Was it really a PCL injury and not ACL? I thought I read at the time it was ACL, which has a standard recovery time of 9-12 months and is much more common as you mentioned.

PCL tear is a very rare injury because it's a very thick ligament and is very difficult to snap it. Usually happens in car crashes and the like. Good thing is that recovery from it should be quicker than from an ACL injury and athletes generally don't have setbacks and complications from it, from what I know.

Its a release clause. They can't reject it. Obviously other clubs could offer more money to the player, and have better reputations than us, but we would have got him for the release clause by law.

You seem to have a strange definition for 'getting him'.

So wilson scored 7 goals in 35 appearances last season and we want him. (1 in 5)

Wesley scored 5 goals in 21 appearances last season and some on here say he's rubbish and we should get rid (1 in 4).

    I'm confused.

I think it's quite simple. Wilson had a bad season, and so did Bournemouth. He wouldn't have been available to us, and certainly not at that price, otherwise. If Smith thinks he can get him back to his best I'm fine with it.

Wesley's injury is very bad. He may not be available until December/January and who knows how long it'd take him to regain some form. Can't risk it. Same as with Heaton.

Watkins is apparently 28 and 40 is just something the media came up with without any bid it could be 35m for example then its what a 7 million difference?

You can't have it both ways - it's all just media speculation.

I like Edouard over Watkins too and it seems like there was genuine interest in him but he's likely turned us down and will be looking for a better move, just like Rashica. Nothing Villa can do about it even if they want to pay 50 mil.

Why are you worried about how low they rate Steer? He is a decent keeper but Romero is better than Steer.

I just like the lad. Might be wishful thinking or just knowing f all about football, but I thought he'd be alright as a number 2 keeper and I would have been fine with him playing until Heaton is ready. Everything since lockdown, however, suggests he's even behind Nyland.

I agree that Romero is a better keeper.

It doesn’t. All seems rather O’Neilish to me..

If it means we'll finish 6th I'm all for it.

As for Romero. He seems a very decent keeper and 8 mil is the new 1 mil. I'm more worried about what this means for how lowly they rate Steer at the club and more importantly - about Heaton's health. His last two injuries have been horrendous and it looks like he's nowhere near fit enough and will likely miss a lot of games ( I'm afraid the same is true for Wesley). It's not an ideal situation but when fully fit having two good experienced keepers sounds quite alright for a team targeting mid-table for the next couple of seasons.

Some people on this board have forgotten the time we acted like a big club and bought top young english players.  It feels strange and alien to them. They'd rather we haggle over a few mill and sign donkeys from Belgium.

    When was that? Deadly's time?

I’m sure we’ve got accountants with similar skills as Man City’s demonstrated earlier in the year. If they now sign Messi I’d say they are really taking the piss. I’m not sure FFP has got any teeth really.

Probably calculating the future negligible FFP fine as part of the Messi deal. FFP is useless.

  13. Sensible signing, decent fee. He can play ahead of Guilbert too if needed. Not super exciting, but not bad either.

Expecting a couple more signings of this kind and hopefully a marquee one, Rashica or Edouard, or someone else.

I have to say I'm amazed at the figures being bandied around for Messi.  Yes he's had an incredible season and been the best in the world for years now, but he's 33 now.  How much longer can he seriously go on for at the top of his game? He could have a rapid decline if the legs go.  Someone may be forking out £1bn for a single season, two tops from him.

Disagree. Look at Ronaldo in Juventus - they're both just way too good. They'll get 3 or 4 great seasons out of him, then send him to their US team and in the process more than make up for their outlay financially through commercial deals, exposure and shirt sales.

That kind of cash will buy you a lot of future Lionel Messi's.

That kind of cash buys you exactly 0 future Messi's. He's too rare a talent. Ask Utd what a billion buys them.

What happens though is we might get relegated with this team, we were bloody lucky last season.  Starting with the same team will also be discouraging as well to key players who was told by Edens we wouldn’t get into this position again.  Imagine Jack who bust his balls thinking he’s got to do it again with no support, it’s draining.

I can't pretend to know what Jack is thinking or feeling but I imagine he'd know who the club is after and why there'd be difficulties and delays trying to sign them.

  16. I'd rather they wait until late in the transfer window if that means there's a bigger chance to get more of their main targets than buying 2nd/3rd/4th choices early on. We have a good enough team for the start of the season and were lucky to have a game postponed as well.

We saw what happened last summer when we missed out on main targets - Phillips, Webster, Benrahma. If it doesn't work out at least they'd have tried.

I'm slightly puzzled as to why a club like Celtic would spend £ 10 million on a striker (which is a LOT of money in that league), and while doing so accepting a 40% sell on. Seems like a very high risk deal.

Even if it's actually a 40% sell on profit I'd say it's a high risk move.

Same reason why we agreed a buyback clause for Luiz - we wouldn't have got him otherwise. Someone else would have.

  18. Really like the fixtures. An additional week to prepare. Actual first game at home with the chance to start with 3 points. A lot of winnable home games in the first third of the season. No horrible run of playing top 6 teams in a row. May is tricky, but oh well. Not bad at all.
