To be fair, it's hard to change a winning team, and despite Gardner not looking totally assured we have still been ticking along. I expect he will get back in soon enough, looked very promising in patches this season. Whatever Bruce thinks is best, is alright for me at the moment.

That's exactly it, I think it is just a case of "if it ain't broke don't fix it". I'd expect him to get game time with Jedinak out on Friday, hopefully he show's brucey what we see in him.

    I wouldn't sell him.

    We have a quality defender..

Liverpool were sniffing around him when he got injured so tells you something.

For me he is one of the best LB's we have had since Wilfred Bouma.

Totally agree with this, I think people forget how young he is or aren't watching the whole 90 mins. You can tell he loves being here aswell by his twitter ect, talk of selling him is ludicrous.

  3. when we have the ball we struggle to break teams down because of the way they sit, even in the premier league every single game looked the same....we have the ball for prolonged periods of time, do fack all with it, commit an error and concede. In a way I think Brucey wants our opposition to open up by inviting them to press into us with the ball, seems to be working thus far...especially with the pace we have up top now.

  4. Everyone's entitled to an opinion but i thought he was outstanding on Sunday, even more so when you consider he was playing with a booking from the 2nd minute. Not only tackled but kept winning and retaining the ball, showed real attacking intent with attempted runs and passes. Very happy if he continues this vein of improving form.

This is going to be one intense half of pressure we need to get a second. They pressed us a hell of a lot, we have to make sure don't put a wolves second half display or we will lose

Apart from the disallowed goal I can't remember feeling nervous at all that half.

Amavi in particular is having a really good game. Someone earlier in the thread was giving him some stick.....go figure!!!!

Really?!??! Amavi is winning everything, playing some really tidy balls and showing some great attacking intent.

  7. He was the captain and he was deemed too fat to play football. Physical fitness is the most basic requirement to being a professional footballer, let alone being the captain at one of the biggest clubs of arguably the biggest league in the world..I can't even begin to express how angry I am and how unforgivable that is. Can you imagine a telesales executive vital to a business losing the ability to talk at his/her own fault, for a prolonged period of time, of which contributes to significant losses to the business.....to then be forgiven...all whist earning a staggering wage/salary?

Gabby epitomizes everything that was wrong with the culture of this club and needs to be removed, albeit in a diplomatic way.

OTT that he gets himself in the headlines YET AGAIN for wrong seasons, playing average and then gets a silly three game ban?

Sorry if anyone does that, they deserve criticism no matter his age. He has achieved absolutely nothing yet.

I'm not trying to make out he's untouchable criticism-wise, just some of the comments on this thread seem overly harsh. He's a young-player that needs to be nurtured and supported rather than crucified at every turn. When you have role-models like Gabriel "i'm too fat to play" agblonglahor it starts to make sense how behavior like this occurs. Steve will get him on the right path with his no-nonsense approach. In regards to the "achieved nothing yet", who has in our side since he was promoted to the first-team? Not very many 21 year olds achieve anything in arguably the worst team in the history of the premier league.

  9. I know the ban was unnecessary, but the some of the reaction is a bit OTT. He's made a few foolish mistakes but don't most people his age, he's unlucky that due to the england/ireland scenario he's high on the media hitlist. I think the ban could actually really help him, the need to put his head down and force his way back into the side could really get his head sorted and playing his best football...it's not like we've missed him the last few games anyway.

That same "temple of impending Doom" that has yet to suffer defeat this season

Haha it is a good point! But I agree with Demitri, the crowd definitely has a very nervy/edgy feel to it, imagine if the crowd was fully (and i mean fully) behind the team all 90 mins..would be a totally different ball game.

  11. I think we have to remember that Bruce has had very very limited training days with this squad, so any rapid changes in the way we play was unrealistic. However, what he has done is managed to get us playing compact last night and severly limit Readings chances, managed to get us playing with at last some sort of identity (although i imagine this will evolve as his tenure endures) and actually managed to get a couple of good results (which will boost the confidence no end). Lastly, what I cannot rate enough is he made the correct substitutions...which it seems none of our recent managers seemed to be able to do. So far so good for Potato Head.

I for one see potato head getting lucky tonight and getting an away victory, followed by masses of media coverage on how we have broken the away winless rot.

I shall leave this right here.

  13. Reading through this topic start to finish has genuinely saddened me, the state of delusion is beyond belief..starting to sound like stereotypical Newcastle fans to some extent. The facts are literally on the wall with the clubs position; 19th in the League after being the worst Premier League side in history. Fans are happy to moan, criticism and create negativity on an appointment whilst offering no feasible alternative. Let go of this notion that we have a divine right to be in the premier league team and accept the current state of the club and the position we are in.

  14. I still honestly believe back-to-back wins is all this team needs to kick on, as much as Dr X claims it's not a mentality thing it certainly is. Need to get the stigma out of the players & fans minds that we cannot win away or that we will concede in the last 5 mins...it's basic Sports Psychology.
