The one player I really hoped we'd sign this window

the windows not closed yet! I'm confident we'll get this over the line, I get the impression he's waiting for our best offer...in his position it makes sense to do so.

We will coach that kind of behaviour out of him in no time. Before you know it he will develop a crap first touch and an incredible talent for passing the ball sideways constantly before giving it away.

    now now.

  3. I actually feel confident that we will get two midfielders in, which is exactly what we need. Love the fact we actually have a board that is able to identify weaknesses and action a plan to address the problem, long may it continue.

On the subject of Delph, it's like that ex girlfriend who was amazing in bed but ran off on a romantic holiday the day after you get engaged...only for her to crawl back when it doesn't work out. We all know how that one plays out.

Actually, I think he started centrally against QPR and then moved out wide in the second half?

It seems to be his best position to me. Not so much as a winger, but as a wide forward. In practice, we should just let him play a free role for now but AS a forward. Giving him defensive responsibility as a winger is barmy.

From my view in the stands it seemed as Ross was playing as the central striker in a 4-3-3....but although I agree that he shouldn't have any defensive responsibilities, i'm not sure how I feel about the prospect of a system that doesn't cover/support Hutton & Amavi defensively with the wingers.

    Why?

He's better playing from wide. Even when he's playing central, it's when he drifts wide that he causes the most damage.

It seems every time we play well in the second half it's down to Kodija being moved into the middle. He does drift out wide like you mention, but I think that works as he drifts away from the CB's. Also he seems to be the only striker we have that seems capable of bringing the ball down from a defensive clearance onto his chest, which is invaluable.

  6. Was at the game yesterday, very happy with the result! I must say, our Midfield is truely awful at being physical (excluding Jedinak)...i swear Adomah was playing CM at various points in the second half. Reinforcements needed ASAP.

I also thought that we don't seem to play balls infront of our wingers often, they always seem to get the ball with their back to goal..just a thought.

  7. How good it is to love football again. I've long rated/defended Amavi, really chuffed it sounds like he had another great performance. I fully expected us to not deliver on the back of the Leeds result, but Brucey just keeps on surprising me. Finally, how long has it been since we actually won a game where the other side has parked the bus? I can't help but have that promotion feeling...

From what i can see he paid money for :

    Lorik Cana- £5m
    Fraizer Campbell- £3.5m
    Darren Bent- £16m
    Lee Cattermole- £6m
    Michael Turner- £4m
    Matthew Killgallon- £2m
    Simon Mignolet- £2.5m
    Marcos Angelari- £2.5m
    Titus Bramble- £1m
    Asamoah Gyan- £13.25m
    Stephane Sessegnon- £6m

Not loads in the grand scheme of things i guess with only 2 signings over 10 million, There were also a bunch of other free transfers & loans.

The one concerning thing i guess is that Cana, Bent, Gyan, Killgallon, Angelari had all left again within a little over 12 months of signing and the rest of them went the year he left

Sessegnon, Gyan, Bent, Cattlemole and Mignolet were all great signings for Sunderland. Seems as though when he spent big, he spent well.

  9. Does anyone remember how many mistakes De Gea made in his first season of English football? I really like what i've seen recently from Gollini he's produced a few game-saving moments recently, keep the lad.

Leeds were compact, organised and not scared to put the boot in.

That sounds identical to Brighton, Sheffield and Birmingham when we visited their place..that's fueling my optimism.
