I'd rotate heavily at this point anyway. We are 6 points ahead with 3 matches left and a better goal difference. Time to rotate. Rest all key players and see what the bench can offer.

We’re not 6 points ahead. They have a game in hand.

We’re 5 points ahead of Boro, but after Millwall we have Leeds and Norwich left. I would really prefer us to secure playoff by beating Millwall today.

  2. Not a link to us, but an European club with new owners have offered Usain Bolt a contract. Could fit with us. And I think it’s the type of signing our new owners would consider to get some publicity. I’m sure we hve Champions League aspirarions some time in the future.

There is a club in Europe that has offered Bolt a two-year deal, they have been taken over by new owners who have aspirations of Champions League football," he revealed.

So James Collins definitely not going to Ipswich according to their manager, and is going elsewhere - gotta be us hasn't it?

It would make a lot of sense at least. We need one from Huth, Terry or Collins now, and we probably need to add to that in Jan. I would prefer Terry, but that might not be possible.

We're going to be using the Terry money to pay Bruce off instead.

Could be, but I would rather go up with Bruce and Terry than staying in this division. Bruce is here to get us up, he won't be managing us next season anyway. I honestly don't care if the football is awful, as long as we are winning games and getting promotion. That's what this season is all about. Not pretty football, no great cup runs or anything.  If it will happen with Terry remains to be seen, but I'm quite sure it won't happen without him. Which makes all this squad stregthening, and FFP talk bit pointless.

    Just. Get. Promoted.

  5. I simply don't get why we don't sign him for the season.

It would be a 38 week contract. At £70K the total cost would be £2.66m. At £60K £2.28m. At £50K it would be £1.9m and so on.

If it's FFP, then we're obviously down to relatively small amounts of money which would decide if we're in breach of the rules or not.

If it's down to the owners not wanting to spend money on ageing players, that would seem justified. IF it was a longer contract. But we're only talking to the end of the season, if we are promoted, then who knows. But at least then we can afford it.  That wage bill is no bigger than the amortisation costs of buying a £6m player on a 3 year contract. And we would probably need to pay that players some money on top of that again.

Why we would spend loads of money to keep Grealish and to get the others that we got, when we actually at the same time make a concious decision of not getting propotion because we literarly don't have defenders is beyond me.

I'm all for not buying old players on long contracts. But I can't honestly see age being a deciding factor in getting a player who is out of contract on a short term deal for a postion we desperatly need strenghtening. Especially considering the window is closed and we don't have that many other options.

Other 38 year olds on betelween £75k and £100k a week?

    That's the difference.

Well, towards FFP it's the amount of money, not how it's spent that matters. To pay £2,5m for a CD isn't that bad. That's what you spend on a £10m player on a four year contract. And then you need to pay the player some money on top of that.

Because we can't afford to spend £2,500,000 on wages for one player and remain within FFP.

That's why we probably haven't tried to sign him.

Which I find very strange, considering we tried to sign other players.

Yeah just seen that myself and was about to come and post the same thing.

He wants this Villa move doesn't he!

    Villa put out an SOS...

Terry touted to join Sporting Lisbon but it does not materialise.

Terry then on the verge of signing for Spartak Moscow for ""huge wages"" but also declines joining them at the 12th hour.

Looks like this message is coming across loud and clear. Basically with JT, 'I can still attract big clubs in europe for massive wages, yet I am willing to come back to Villa for half of that, sign me'.

It's a case of NasWes now changing their minds and actually allow JT to return despite their earlier stance on the matter.

Not signing another CB would be one of the most bizarre decisions in football in recent years. We spend all summer fighting to keep Jack and strengthen the team. Obvious candidates for automatic. Weren't it for the fact that we only have one CB. A situation we can choose to solve by signing last years captain with over 400 Premier League matches as captain for Chelsea and 78 caps. By offering him £70k per week he will cost £2.500.000 or thereabout in total.

So why choose to risk all the money that has been spent for saving £2.500.000?

Agreed. I for one would like Terry back but I can definitely see where the board are coming from if they’re thinking “you had the budget, you knew the deadline, you knew the players we wanted, if you’re not happy with what you’ve got then that’s you’re problem to deal with as you are the manager of this team, which you built, and had the opportunity to build on further, which you didn’t”.

Which might be one way of looking at it. The other way of looking at it would be that it makes sense to invest a little bit more if possible, to ensure the big investments in the squad isn't wasted.

Think last year when playing bad we had Snodgrass, Hourihane or Adomah to pop up with a goal which papered cracks

Snoddy is gone, Hourihane benched and Adomah off form

But instead we have a couple of other lads who most likely can do something similar.

Anyone wanting Villa to lose or Terry not to sign purely for Bruce to be sacked need to give their heads a wobble...

Bruce is irrelevant. His job is to get us out of this division, and that's it. We're getting a new manager and a new team if we get promoted. And I honestly don't care how it's achieved as long as it's achieved.

Each day that passes without JT signing is a day wasted. The sooner he signs, the earlier he will be matchfit.

I just can't see why with this new spending we are doing that we would sign JT in September rather than July!

Conspracy theory, but SB could have wanted to, but the new owners wanted  younger players instead. Now it's much less to choose from

Someone twitter posted that EFL rules only allow you to sign free agents up until end of deadline ie today. So not sure Terry or anyone else is coming in.

I don't think that rule would apply to JT as we were his last club so it wouldn't be a transfer. But I could be wrong.

Was thinking if Abraham’s comes in where’s does that leave Kodjia, on the bench?

It will mean Abraham is first choice at least. But that dpesn't mean Kodjia won't play. Obviously we can't rely on Abraham for 90 minutes in the next 42 games. This is not the early 80's where you can win a title by using 13-14 players.

I was against Terry returning mainly because we lack pace at the back, but after watching the defensive horror show on saturday I would happily have him back.

Low wages and promotion bonus perhaps. At this stage I don't think he would be to concerned if he only made £15-20k p/w and could make another £20k p/w as a £1m promotion bonus. I don't think he as that many offers substantially better either.

Martin Odegaard please. Supposedly available for loan to a championship club. RW too.

Linked with a move either here or Derby.

Makes sense that Real Madrid trust Steve Bruce on youth developement. The youngest player to ever play for Real Madrid, but I guess that is a club where you just don't break into their team while you're still a teen. Maybe he will make it into the Real Madrid team in the future, maybe not. But could still be a decent player, even though he's not good enough for Real Madrid at the moment.
