  1. With the debt to equity swap, Mr Lerner doesn't need to waiver his interest payment any longer. Hmmmm. Joy.

Yeah, but obviously good for the club to be rid of that £20 mill (?) payment. That said, with a turnover of £83 mill and an operating loss of £43 mill, there are expenses of £126 mill in the club.

On what exactly? Our player wages should be cut down to ... £70 mill, maybe even lower. So where does the rest of the money go? Will be interesting to see the details.

  2.

Please everyone drop the left footed/right footed thing.

It has no relevance at all and I'm sure anyone who works in football would agree. If you're not good enough to play on the other side, then you're not good enough to be a professional footballer anyway, so the whole thing is a moot point.

I'll quote you just as an example.

It most definitely is not a moot point. You're right in that a player needs to be of some standard and the better the better. ;)

However, if you have a right footed and a left footed CB, it's better than if you have two right or two left footed ones. Neither of them plays in the center so that it wouldn't make any difference. If a player is far superior, he can play on the wrong side too, but it's not ideal, as someone has mentioned. I wouldn't want to play Vlaar on the wrong side if possible. But if Okore is clearly better than Clark, I would.

I don't have evidence he is at the moment, so I'd play Clark on the left and Vlaar on right. Let them fight it out. No way is it clear that Okore walks back in and Clark gets dropped.

I don't get it either. If a right footed cb needs to go on the left side of the pitch is he a lesser defender all of a sudden? Most players today are at least reasonable (if not good) with both feet, I wish somebody did a statistic on Vlaar's defending touches on  either side the pitch to see exactly if this 'right/left footed' discussion has any relevance

    I have a statistic.

When Vlaar is forced out of position to accomondate Okore, we lose 100% of the time (sample: 3 games out of 3).

It's only natural, that Vlaar won't deal as well with crosses coming in from the left than from the right. As he is right footed.

The question, imho, is, if Clark + Baker is a better option than Okore + either Clark or Baker, in the unfortunate situation Vlaar is not available.

  3. I'm not sure it makes much difference being on the left or right centre in midfield/defence/attack. They are in the centre of the park so can easily use either foot unlike out on the flanks? Or am I missing something?

Staying with the back four, the 3 games Vlaar played with Okore would suggest, it does make a big difference. The defending was terrible.

As for (above) Okore being young and learning to playing on the left side, I have seen him for Denmark and for FCN (and Villa) and I have NEVER ever seen him in another position than right side. Naturally, I have missed some games, but all I've seen, he's been in ONE position and one position only.

Further about the topic a quote from Lambert in re to Vlaar being back for the Cardiff game: "His absence affects things because of the balance. We have two left footers playing at centre-half which is not ideal."

Suggestion Lambert also doesn't see the pairing Vlaar/Okore as ideal.

  4. I'm not convinced Lambert's vision long term is having Okore next to Vlaar, as both of them are natural right sided CDs and have always played in this position to my knowledge. I'm not sure moving Vlaar to the left in order to accommodate Okore would make us that much better.

Spot on, imho. Okore is bought as back-up to Vlaar. If Vlaar is fit, Vlaar will be teamed with a left-footer (and that's Clark and Baker).

Moving Vlaar to the left to accommondate Okore (whom I've never ever seen play anything but right side in defense) is a recipy for disaster. We saw it in the 3 games early in the season, where Vlaar had to play right side to fit in Okore.

3 straight losses and a shaky shaky backline.
