They can’t pass because of a system? So many misplaced simple passes isn’t because of system. I grant systems can cause issues with availability of somebody to pass to but we have had far too many just simple passes going astray which is nothing to do with system.

That's to do with low confidence, a lack of understanding in the plan and perhaps poor coaching. I'm one of a few that doesn't think our  midfield is the drizzling shits. Get Luiz settled and then Ramsay and one of Mcginn and Sanson and I think we have more than enough, All worked to a degree last year. Players arent fit enough sadly and DS has never corrected that. I think we may see a few double sessions in the weeks to come.

phew lucky I just mentioning facts and have already stated in this thread I will give him a chance even though I am not convinced

Oh come on, you won't really give him a chance, you hate the guy. Complimentary bias will always effect your judgement, at least we all know that though. You've put a mark in the sand and been honest. I respect that so not having a go

They threw away 2 goal lead to Benfica twice last season and in one of the games Benfica had 9 men for 80 minutes. Lost a lead to Malmo who were down to ten men as well

This season he has won 2 from 8 in Europe, home to Brondby and home to a team from Armenia

Zatman, you're clearly on record as hating him, so your opinion is always going to be somewhat skewed. Whatever you say has less cred as you've come out as a massive Gerrard out guy. First mistake and you'll have the knives out. Not digging but you were mighty against him pre appointment in the now closed thread.

  4. Its been a long time since we've appointed a manager who has been able to bring his entire team. Smith came with just ROK and Terry who the board appointed. All coaches before that had a mismatch of a team. MON was the last manager to bring his entire team.

    culshaw also set piece specialist

This info by me in the next manager thread went under the radar!! unread ITK haha!!

OK, here's my tuppence. All in all, I'm not totally sure how this will go down but I do understand the decision. I know many of the candidates would not have worked. I can t east say with Gerrard, I don't know.

    - He's our manager and I'm totally behind him. All I ask is measurable, demonstrable improvement, some semblance of planning and forethought, some compose and awareness on the pitch.

    - I do not give a flying toss about his connections to another club. It is of no consequence to me. He's a Villa man now until he isn't. I do respect that he gave everything to that club though. It shows loyalty and character. I'm a Villa fan. I don't require the manager to be one too, however nice that is. I just want them to do their job. Villa's success is all that matters. If one day Gerrard moves on and it's considered upwards, it means he's done a good job here. Fine.

    - I've always though he was honest, frank, astute and aware of the game based on his interviews. He's certainly no fool and no bullshitter. We'll know his honest thoughts and so will the players. He's a bit dour but I'd rather he was effective than entertaining.

    - He's a big name in the game. The players will not question him as I think they might have with Smith. He is a winner. That cannot be denied. He's been a leader on and now off the pitch. Let's see how the players react. But there's only one winner here and the players had better shape up.

    - This show guts from Gerrard. We're a team that have had a rough preseason and have a squad that needs work, still a month and a half away from what is always a difficult month to buy players. He could have waited for a more stable job and a summer of planning. He didn't. He's gone all in with a pair of 10s and I admire that. This confidence will serve him well.

I understand the trepidation as we're talking about a guy just starting to make his way through management. However, that start has been fantastic so I choose to be optimistic.
He hasn't managed in the Premier league but he played his entire career in it. It hasn't changed that much. He obviously feels up to it so lets see what he can do.

So yeah, bring it on. It definitely wasn't working and had to change and this is where we are.
    Best of luck Steve.

Nailed it!!! Post of the last few days Max. Agree with every word. Well articulated and has me up for it. He's OURS now, so as you say get totally behind him and lets see what he brings (definitely a pair of balls for sure) UTV

This...  It wasn't just the sign...  Lots of disrespect from the man toward us that night.

    • "Forgetting" to go into the away dressing room after the game and walking into the Liverpool dressing room instead
    • Cheering/waving to the Liverpool fans when we were getting our teeth kicked in
    • Telling the press in his after match interview that he didn't mind losing to Liverpool "because [he] likes Liverpool"

TBH, I find it hard for any professional today to replicate Houllier's behavior that night, regardless of their connection to the other club.

and you are still talking about it. Time to let it go I'd say. Gerrard won't be doing that, its a mute point

£60 million for January supposedly, which you can easily see being true due to the Grealish profit that massively pushed back our FFP limits.

Ignore that, just a random faux ITK twitter account. I feel he may get a tad more if needed.

Houllier looked down on villa from day 1. He postponed his start date to take in an awards ceremony !!!

Not a fan of SG - but I don't believe he will do that. Sure he will get a massive reception at Anfield - which he will acknowledge - fair enough.

But he won't give BS about it being ok to lose to Liverpool.

John Terry got away with outright saying he couldn't and wouldn't play against Chelsea. Far far worse

Sign wasn't the issue. It was the whole attitude that night. We got smashed by Hodgson Liverpool and didn't lay a glove on them live on Sky then he treated it as his testimonial

Again, he was massively sentimental to a club that saved his life.We as fans don't have an entitled right to exacting behaviour. For me to be talking about it years later is odd. Our fan base needs to get a little more self assurance.

Geniune question, as I don't in any way follow Scottish football- how many games do they play a season? I know it's a small league, but do they play each other twice, four times?

    38 games mate!!

Gerrard's elevation is very reminscent of that of Lampard, which proved to be premature

Except Gerrard has actually managed a team. ?Whatever your view of him and Scottish football, to go a whole season undefeated shows some drive, consistency and real focus. Easy to switch off for one or two fixtures and reflects well on him that him and his team were able to keep that focus going.

It’s not just the results, 6 months ago we had Dean and Jack, Villa men as Manager and Captain, we had an identity but now, I just don’t know who or what we are any more.

Jeez!! This is quite the depressing take. We are still Aston Villa, as we were when Jack left and other players and managers previously. Most of our identity is defined by US the fans. Let's give it a go and support them eh?

Any confirmation on the additional coaching staff yet, or have I missed something?

They will respectfully notifying and settling terms with current staff before announcing new coaches etc!

Jim white read out a text from purslow which confirmed his backroom team was coming with him , as he was on his way into a premier league meeting

ah ok, was this on Jim Whites twitter? Not been on Sky Sports. Not that I doubt it's true. I think he will bring in 3/4

Rangers thanked Steven and his staff in their statement which indicates a yes

Yes, Purslow hasn't said anything yet publicly, but 4 staff wanted. The obvious two, as well as performance analyst. The fourth will either be set piece coach or another of his analyst team
