  1. Well that was a couple of hours of my life I won’t get back. A few thoughts in no particular order:

    1) Poor team section at the outset. Freddie should have started  as should have Marvelous.Tactics were all wrong.

    2) Douglas Luiz (spelling?) is shit. For every good thing he does he makes five mistakes.

    3) Drinkwater responsible for three of their goals. Ok he did some good stuff but should not have started today.

    4) Lets not forget we were playing £500m of Man City players.

    5) We conceded the first two goals with pub side defending yet again.

    6) Our midfield was non existent today. No defensive cover at all which put pressure on our defence. Man City just ran through us unopposed.

    7) Not impressed by all the Smith haters out tonight. He called in all wrong today but who is a viable and gettable alternative? The real problem is the quality of the squad, Given we lost 13 players at the end of last season I think over the summer you cannot create a premiership squad for £130m. What  we have is a very good Championship grade side.

’8) The most worrying bit for me was the way heads went down after the second goal. We were there for the taking and it was a matter of how many they scored. My money was on 8 so it was a bit better 🙄. We need too be much tougher and fight. Not sure if that is down to Smith  and coaching or having players not up for the fight.

    9) A lot of people were going on social media about how good the support was from the Villa fans despite the result. Well we are at the back of the Holte and loads of fans left at half time. We were quiet for big chunks of the game and the singing was pretty sad: John Carew, Benteke, European Champions, shit support (the away section was sold out!!), etc. Gallows humour at best and nearly a fight between two Villa fans next to us.

    10) Sadly we will be relegated.

Nyland  0: Worst keeper I've ever seen play for us and I've seen some real shite, from Adam Rachel to Gabor Kiraly to Peter Enckleman. With Nyland in goal you may as well shoot on sight. Pathetic for the first and third goals, the sixth goal through him, terrible, terrible keeper.

Elmo 1: Pathetic play for the second goal, defends pathetically throughout, no excuses for dropping Guilbert, awful from Smith.

Konsa 2: A total mess today.

Mings 2: Spineless and pathetic, showed no leadership.

Hause 1: All over the place and a complete liability, pathetic for the sixth goal.

Taylor 0: Worst left back I've ever seen play for the club, makes Richardson look like Roberto Carlos. Putrid display.

Luiz 1: Weak as piss and brainless. Shocking display.

Hourihane 0: A nothing player who spinelessly disappears and shirks the basic duties of a central midfield player. Needs to be sold.

Drinkwater 0: The worst debut I've ever seen from a Villa player, don't know where to start describing how bad his performance was.

Grealish 5: Tried hard, showed some quality on the ball, but couldn't do anything on account of being surrounded by utter **** shitheads.

El Ghazi 3: Scored a pen, did **** all else, lacks desire.

Trezeguet 6: very bright when he came on, wins a pen, impressive and I'm certainly not one of his admirers. Our MOTM IMO.

So not much of an over reaction. 🙄

At some point, we need to get over the whole ‘it’s only 5-10m so it’s pennies’ and actually sign some decent players though.

Im all for signing cheap players but it’s completely counter productive signing players for low fees if they aren’t good enough.

Unsure on this one. We don’t need another centre half but if he’s better than what we have, so be it.

I suspect we will sell Chester and probably put Hause out on loan so maybe self financing?

Christ no, I remember the furore over the last player we had that kept things ticking over. Ashley Westwood was his name if I remember correctly...

Is that the same Westwood who has been one of Burney's best players?

Anyway its a no to me with Drinkwater, way too much baggage.

The owners have money ( lots of it ) I am just saying that all the top teams have a A list managers. If they really want us playing champions league football, we are not going to do it with DS.We had a chance of signing B.Rogers before we signed Smith.Rogers went to Leicester and they are second from top,we signed D.Smith and we are second from bottom.

Sorry but in what alternative reality was that in? Rodger was never touted as coming to Villa except on VT. Similarly there is a less than zero chance of getting Poch. Were we to sack Smith our options for a new manager are probably really limited, probably Houghton at best. I doubt even Alladyce would come as a fill in for a few months.

    Also looks overweight.

As for him faking hamstring injuries when he isn’t playing well. Laughable.

    Agreed....faking an injury to come off...really!! 🙄

Combined with lack of patience on behalf of both the club and fans, perhaps. Mark my words: some of the players currently being dismissed as ‘not ever going to be good enough’ on here will have good PL careers after leaving Villa.

There is a very long list of players deemed to be not good enough by the club and very particularly the fans who have gone on to be good or excellent at other clubs. Ashley Westwood anyone? A figure of hate on this forum I seem to remember 😳

Don’t forget we are a newly promoted team, we have an England international (Mings), an England u21 international (Konsa, Smith has gone on record saying he thinks he will play for England), a Belgian u21 international (Engels) and a former England u21 international (Hause) and a Welsh international (Chester). I think we’re in very good shape at centre back

Not sure we saw anything that might be termed ‘good shape’ today 😟

Heads have noticeably dropped since the Leicester game and I’m not sure whether Deano has the ability to raise confidence levels. What’s more worrying for me is the complete lack of effort from some of the players today.
Losing SJM so early was a massive blow but bringing Marvelous on was the wrong decision. It seems Deano is being tactically outmanoeuvred every week and his inexperience and/or his stubbornness to change formation is costing us.

Our owners are wealthy and by default very ruthless so I wouldn’t be overly surprised if Deano gets the bullet if things don’t improve very soon.

Agreed......sadly as I would like him to turn it around.

Yes we do. He was injured. Looked a bad one, the sort where you'd expect to not see him again for several months.

Per DS in his radio interview he has been taken to hospital for an x-ray so its looks bad. Completely self inflicted too with his reckless hissy fit tackle.

  11. Smith is under real pressure now. I like him and want him to succeed but we are going backwards. His Plan A is not working and I am rapidly coming to the conclusion he has no Plan B. He made his tactical substitutions much too late today. In the last 15 minutes of the game we put them under real pressure once those changes had been made so why not earlier?

I don't want to see him sacked but unless we improve very quickly he will be.

  12. For the first time this season it dawned on me that we are real relegation candidates. We are just so easy to play against. Keep it tight in midfield and close us down quickly, double mark Grealish, and wait for us to make a mistake.

Added to that we sat way too deep and resorted too many times to hoofing it up the pitch toward a striker who is so out of form its embarrassing.

I'm unsure why fans don't take your posts seriously. You are right here, the showing at Sheffield today, was proof to me we have not progressed one single bit. We looked much better when we played them in the championship.

Everyone was also desperate for that win last season, this season they are top half of the table and we cannot expect any better.

I tell you something now, if we get relegated I and plenty of other fans will be pissed off with Smith, we have the best resources out of all the Promoted teams, but maybe it's now showing not the best manager. Someone tell me Wilder wouldn't get this team performing.

I'm a big fan of DS but the reversal from our much more fluid passing style smack to me of manager desperate not to lose - Steve Bruce anyone? I don't think Wilder is mini me of Klopp but boy does he organise his side. Something DS did do but he has retreated into his shell. How we approach the Southampton game will be telling. A loss and it could get ugly at VP. Beating Liverpool in the CC would be a start too.
