  1. I am convinced that the shock is ‘Ranieri’ and I would be pleased with that. Fits the criteria in that he has Premier League experience, is out of a job and has been reasonably successful without actually winning much.

Just been to Ladbrookes and William Hills both of whom didn’t have him on their markets but when a call was made from both bookies I was only offerred 16-1 and 25-1 respectively. I took 50-1 on Paddypower and hope that my hunch is right! Thoughts on Ranieri?

My family are aquainted with Ranieri, I think (hope) someone would have told me if it was imminent.

  2. So today it's Owen Coyle's turn to go through the rumour mill, let's see where this one goes... Personally speaking, I wouldn't be against him coming in.

Yep... And at around ten this evening someone will post that betting has been suspended, as if they've come in with some earth shattering news. I'm going to miss it when it's all over.

  3. Randy Lerner places a great deal of faith in the actual face to face interview of a management candidate. When he appointed Eric Mangini as Brown's coach in 2009 it was after a "compelling" interview in which EM was said to have fascinated RL.

The slight problem with trying to identify a candidate who totally shares your vision in an interview, is that less talented candidates may be better at bullsh*tting than their better qualified competitors.

I agree with this.. Was Mangenius a popular choice with the fans at the time? or was it against popular opinion?

I believe Mangini was third favorite on RL's list of three behind Cowher and Pioli. Fan's were split between those who thought that he was too young and inexperienced and also would not be liked by the squad, and those that thought that his time with Bob Belichick might stand him in good stead. Fans turned against him almost immediately after a bad start to the season.

The recent appointment of Pat Shurmur as Mangini's successor was handled by the vastly experienced Mike Holmgren rather than RL and was a surprisingly quick process. Brown's fans seem considerably more upbeat about the coming season.

I get the impression that Randy would love to implement the Browns system at Villa, with an experienced veteran DOF overseeing the signings and strategic planning, while a younger quality coach would be in charge of the day to day stuff. However that doesn't seem to be popular this side of the pond.

Thanks for the response. I remember Mangini upseting alot of the playing staff a little like Houlier.

What you're saying he's done over there is have Houlier overall in charge of running the club and then getting a Martinez type to coach the team.

  5. Someone has just tweeted that MYSTERYMAN has posted on a forum to say it's not McClaren or Hughes.

Now i know that info was passed onto us by Mazrim but why is MM posting somewhere else after dumping us? I feel like i've been cheated on!

    Yep, heroes and villans forum.

Oh dear... I feel like my girlfriend has told me she's a lesbian, only to find her in the bed of another man :-(

he's also been on ianrobo's site... Its like the other man is your dad!

  6. I have just spoken to my brother who works in accounts at Villa Park and he says Randy Learner is due to fly into Birmingham tonight,as for Carlo he is due for talks on Wednesday as he isnt even in the country yet. Everyone in the office is talking about it and they all seem to think he will be the next manager, but it will take alot of money to make it happen.

Thanks for the info; if the Villa office staff are getting excited then it doesn't seem so bad for us to live in hope.

  7. Same source that told me over a week ago ... I don't think he's here yet (as some reports suggest) but he'll be here this week and signed as manager by Friday !

I really really hope your genuine and not some jumped up pleb trying to get a reaction! :winkold:

I ain't no jumped up pleb ! I've waited for before making this information public.. I usually check my information with MM first but he's no longer around !

I see that there is a poster on Ianrobbo's site calling themselves MM, if it is the one and same, why post on there and not on here? He posted today, nothing ITK by the way.

  8. I keep checking the Corriere Dello Sport and there is no mention on it that Ancelotti has rejected us. There is a video piece on their website but I can't see it due to my work access restricting it.

If there are any italian speakers out there you may want to check it out... I doubt it has much to say though.

They are saying that Ancelotti is already the Aston Villa manager and it will be announced on Wednesday the 8th of June.

    Have you made that up?

    :D

It actually just says Ancelotti is the favourite for the job, then goes on about other candidates. Nothing much in there really.

    Thank you

  11. Ancelotti to be confirmed as new manager on/by Wednsday 8th June !

Certain European betting markets have suspended betting this afternoon.

This from a source within the betting industry !

You know you've just opened the floodgates to another 20 pages of speculation today!!

    Where have you heard this?

Too right what's the story Gadzooks?

I am just reporting what I've been told from a someone I know who works at a top european betting agency ! They have been told to suspend betting on Ancelotti as Villa manager until further notice .. I perhaps in hindsight shouldn't have posted & tried to change the message ... I'm not here to get slagged off for sharing what I hear ! Oh well .......

Not slagging you off Gadzooks, far from it, you've restored a little hope!

  12. Abraham's twitter has made me feel we're not going to get a really top class manager; I felt that if we were prepared to discount an average premiership manager, it meant we had a far better option lined up. Now it looks like we've been rejected by Ancelotti and possibly others, so we're back in the market for Hughes.

Keep clicking refresh on newsnow for the hope of some optimism.

  13. if there's even the remotest hope of getting carlo ancelotti then there's no-one else even close as far as i'm concerned. he's won everything as a player and as a manager in club football, would be a major draw for great players to come to us etc.

i just can't see him coming unfortunately

I agree about Ancelotti; I think the proffessionalism he has will fit in with the Aston Villa ethos, and I can see him building some loyalty from the players which will stop this obsession with being picked for England and then thinking they need to move to another club.
