  1. 'You are my Barry

    My Gareth Barry

You make me happy when skies are grey

So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard

And please don't take my Barry away'

I've been trying to push this since I last saw you suggest it BCV. It's got to be a must if we're going to sing about Barry.

My only suggestion to it is changing 'So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard' to 'We don't want Lampard...' or something similar. Just means more accessibility, particularly to young kids.

Other than that, yes yes yes.

  2. To Hey Jude:

Naaaa, Na, Na, Na-na-naaa Naaaa, Na-na-naaa Naaaa, Luke Young!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To 'You Let Your Country Down':

    Sty-li-yan Pe-trov, Sty-li-yan Pe-trov,

    Sty-li-yan Pe-trov, Sty-li-yan Pe-trov!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I was thinking to the tune, 'We love you Villa, we do', to add in a couple of verses to it, so it would go:

We love you Villa, we do,

We love you Villa, we do,

We love you Villa, we do,

    Oooh, Villa we love you!

We love you Cuellar, we do,

We love you Cuellar, we do,

We love you Cuellar, we do,

    Oooh, Cuellar we love you!

We love you Milner, we do,

We love you Milner, we do,

We love you Milner, we do,

    Oooh, Milner we love you!

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone going to Wigan this weekend, try and get them started, then bring them back to VP for Wednesday.

  3. Can we PLEASE try and get this one started at Ajax maybe? It's so simple, and it's a song for our player of the season thus far, who has yet to have a song.

To the same tune as 'You let your country down' and 'Dimitar Berbatov':

    Stil-i-yan Pe-trov, Stil-i-yan Pe-trov,

    Stil-i-yan Pe-trov, Stil-i-yan Pe-trov.

  4. It's all about getting new songs sung on the road. Everyone knows 'John Carew, Carew' etc now, and when it's sung at VP, everyone gets into it and it can be heard for miles. And i'm pretty sure that was first being sung before we played Man Utd last season at Old Trafford.

It's all about the away fans getting pissed up in the pre-match pub and singing some new songs, then bringing them back to VP.

  5. we have chants for Young we have about a million. Milner doesn't even have one.

We may have a million but only one ever gets sung.

I think it's important to push the chants for Young and Barry, and land on one for each which will fit and stick. They're arguably our best two players, yet the songs that are sung week in week out are so unimaginative, repeatitive and dull.

  6. Chants that need to start getting sung - anyone going to Spurs should try and get them going:

    Ashley Young:

    Ashley Young is magic,

    He wears a magic hat,

And when we get a freekick,

    He says I'm having that,

He crosses with his left foot,

    He crosses with his right,

    Will someone tell Capello,

    This kid is dynamite

    or...(to Agadoo)

    Ash-ley

    Young, Young, Young,

    Gets the ball under control,

    Ashley Young, Young, Young,

Takes it forward, scores a goal

On the left, on the right,

    Gives defenders such a fright,

    Ashley Young, Young, Young,

He's so quick he's out of sighhhhhht.

Barry - despite the Liverpool thing, he's still here, and he's still one of our best players:

You are my Barry, my Gareth Barry,

You make me happy, when skies are grey,

We don't want Lampard, or Steven Gerrard,

So please don't take, our Barry, away

Petrov - saw a few pages back an idea for Rule Britannia:

Stiiii-liiyan Petrov, he caaame from Celtic Park,

Heeee, wiiilll, shoot and score from foooor-tyyyyy yaaaaards,

Nuuu-mber nineteen, he's Viiilla through and through,

Nooow, heee's, showing us what heee caaan dooooo.

To name three players. Lets get them going - they're fairly easy to remember, and they'll catch on.

  7. Ashley Young is magic,

    He wears a magic hat,

    He's gotta play for England,

    It is simple as that,

He crosses with his left foot,

    He crosses with his right,

    He's gotta play for England,

    Cos he is dynamite

    Yes. Just yes.

Maybe edit the 'It is simple as that' because it doesn't flow as well as the other lines, maybe change it to 'You know that is a fact'.

  8. Hi General,

I was in a card shop today in Worcester, looking for a birthday card for a family member, and came across a selection of football cards. There I was surprised and disgusted to find, just 25 miles from Villa Park, cards for Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and even Newcastle United. Is this a market which we should be attacking, particularly when a team hundreds of miles away to the north and aren't close to us in the league can successfully market them in our back garden?

On a serious note, really looking forward to the game tomorrow, hope we start to show our potential as top-four raiders. Enjoy the game on your walkabout, it's all about the Lower Holte :P

  9. Hi General,

Just want to say that the imminent signing of Steve Sidwell is fantastic news for the club. I rate him highly and think he'll help us push on and keep up our performance last season and beyond. Just wanted to know your opinion of the man from what you've seen and heard.

Bring on the signings General - Bentley by Monday :winkold:

  10. Hi General,

Thank you for your pleasing comments re:Barry and transfers. I know you've had to repeat yourself a lot since the end of the season on certain issues, but it is appreciated to be constantly reminded that someone at the club is committed to how fans are dealing with and interpreting situations.

That said, whilst I have full faith in MON, we are nearing the start of our own season very shortly, with the trip to Finland only a couple of weeks away, and whilst we are strong in midfield and upfront, we only have one senior goalkeeper and three senior defenders on our books at the moment (excluding injured players). I am assuming that this will be dramatically improved in the next couple of weeks, but if the situation has not changed, can this be seen as anything other than a failure to our start of season preparations? I mean, no team should be underestimated, and a couple of injuries could really damage our hopes of European football come August and September. Are you able to tell how this would fit in with our plans, or is it a boardroom/managerial issue only?

This is not a rant about transfer policy, mearly an observation. I believe MON will change this situation, but be warned that if it stays much the same by our first competitive match, you may expect some unhappy comments on this thread. Thanks for your time.

P.S. If you need me at right-back, don't hesitate to PM.

  11. Hi General,

Just a quick query regarding player sponsorship. (As an example) IF Gareth Barry was to move to Liverpool, would issues arise over the fact that Barry is presumambly sponsored by Nike here at Villa, but would move to a club sponsored by Adidas? I'm just interested as to whether if there are issues, whether it is a club matter, or purely between the player and the sponsor. There have been a couple of instances recently hinting at such an issue - Ronaldo sponsored by Nike moving to Madrid sponsored by Adidas - and supposedly Man City talking to Ronaldinho's sponsors about his move there. IF it is a matter for clubs to deal with, would that technically mean buying a player who is already sponsored by Nike would be cheaper than one who is not? And would a certain club with a certain manager be more interested in those kinds of players because it was financially better? Not that I want to start a rumour mill here..... :)

  12. Hi General,

When is Barry going to sign that new contract? :winkold:

But seriously, thank you for that mammoth post a couple of pages back. We have a board of the utmost integrity and sense, and I fully trust that the end of this saga will not only result in the best deal for the club, but will strengthen the bond in the squad around players who are 100% committed to helping OUR club push into the top four. It's excellent to hear players like Ashley, Curtis and Nigel showing their ambition, but I fully believe that they want to do that here. And I believe in a few years time we will prove ourselves to be a top side in England, if not pushing into Europe's elite.

And our summer signings will truely reflect that ambition.

Keep up the good work. And try and get some time off.

  13. Hi General,

Just want to reiterate what everyone else has said here. I think most of us had an inkling, but it's fantastic news that we've confirmed sponsorship with ACORNS! Please pass on thanks to everyone behing the scenes (including yourself I assume) who helped organise it, and who will continue to help the charity for as long as we are supporting them. Kudos to all.
