  1. General Krulak here:

    4. Villafromluton: I am not sure whether you were asking if Randy and I were close. Simply put, we are very close. I consider him a son...and a dear friend. He looks at me in much the same way...except for the age. We talk or e-mail daily. I have HUGE respect for him and for what he is doing with his life.

General, after your post re: Blues aftermath, when you said you and Randy sat down together after the game and soaked up the magic that had just happened, I had no doubt about the relationship between you and Randy, and i'm so glad we have that at our club (unlike a certain club who encourage their manager to tap up other players :D)

And thanks for your reply re: US football. Maybe your comrades across the pond will come and give us a thrashing in ten years time :winkold:

  2. Hi General,

Just a quick question, something I was thinking about after the England-USA match.

Do you think, with the potential money the MLS could have, that the grassroots level in the US will help them overtake the English game, and if so, how far are they from doing that?

And will we be extracting some of that talent? :D

  3. Hi General,

I understand the club's decisions not to drag the Barry issue out in front of the public, and it shows a level of credibility which I am proud to associate with my club, and I can only trust yourself and Randy in that you are doing something about this tapping up away from the limelight. I think the fans (myself included) are just worried that whilst Liverpool are sinking to dirty tricks and we are taking the high ground, ultimately we will lose out and Barry will be off. I don't think anyone will believe the board did not try their hardest to keep GB here were he to leave, but I think most people would like to believe that we did everything to punish Liverpool for trying to influence this in the media, and with the constant remarks coming from the North West direction, it's getting a little hard.

Hope it gets sorted in the right manner, for the benefit of the club, and you can take a break from all this nonsense.

  4. Hi General,

I have to say I completely agree with the above posts. I know you discussed media speculation a few days ago, claiming that you couldn't care less about what the papers say, which is exactly how a professional footballer, manager, chairman, etc. should handle themselves. However, this Barrygate saga has gone beyond paper talk now. It's a case of attempting to influence a players decision outside of offering them a formal contract after a bid has been accepted at the club they currently play for. Rafa Benitez is quoted as saying "If your captain wants to leave, its a problem but that's football." Now Steven Gerrard has claimed Barry must be playing Champions League football and should join Liverpool. I understand that these sorts of comments have no influence whatsoever on the club's handling of the transfer, but it certainly affects the player. Gareth is being tapped up, pure and simple. Regardless of whether we accept a bid, quotes such as these are going to eat away at him and consequently unsettle him, and that will gravely affect the club's attempts to hold on to him, and show him that we can offer him what he wants.

This needs to be sorted General, Liverpool need to be shown that these types of comments will not be tolerated, and if there was one club which I think could do such a thing outside of the 'big four', it's us, and it's because of our boardroom.

  5. Hi General,

I have a quick question about Gareth Barry. Obviously i'm not going to ask about whether he is staying or going, but all I wanted to know was is it going to be a case of when MON, Randy, yourself, etc. know he is staying (if that is the case), will the fans be made aware asap, or will you wait until a new contract has been signed so it is all official? There are a huge number of Villa fans who are desperate to know, so I was just wondering how far through the negotiation process they will be made aware.

Enjoy your summer of work :D

  6. General,

Just a point about the season ticket sales. I know that you plan to cap them at 27,000 and I just think that this is a bit too low. if we can sell say 35,000 why not do it? It would still leave 4,000 every game (excluding the away allocation) for people who cant make every game ......

The General mentioned a while back that Villa did not want to decrease the people who can't make every single match significantly. Expect an increase in season tickets when the stadium expands I expect.

  7. Or as a full song:

You are my Barry, my Gareth Barry,

You make me happy, when skies are grey,

Better than Lampard, and Steven Gerrard,

So please don't take, my Barry, away.

La la la laaa laaa, la la la laaa laaa,

You make me happy, when skies are grey,

So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard,

So please don't take, my Barry, away.

BARRY FOR VILLA! BARRY FOR VILLA!

  8. Hi General,

Had a fantastic day at Upton Park today, even though we didn't get the win we deserved. Bright sunshine, Mellberg shirts, and a great game of football (if you ignore the ref). What a season we have had, I'm so pleased we've made up ten places in the past two seasons. It's shows the ambition and drive of the Club, and how much quality we now have in the team. I firmly believe we will only go from strength to strength, keep up European qualification for the next two seasons and look at breaking that top four. Please pass on my thanks to MON, the team, Randy, yourself, everyone behind the scenes, and for today in particular, Nigel Reo-Coker. He never let the boos and jeers get to him and played out of his skin. A model professional who has contributed so much to our progress.

    UP THE VILLA!

  9. General,

Like some people who have recently posted, please pass on a thanks to MON for his reaction to the Liverpool/Barry saga. Some may find him too outgoing, but I love this about him. He tells people and the press exactly what the situation is, and I think that helps settle the team and know where the club stands. Of course GB may have been unsettled before the Wigan match, but I firmly believe if anyone can get the team back on form for tomorrow it's MON.

P.S. I don't know if this has been asked or answered, but will you be attending Upton Park tomorrow?

  10. General Krulak here:

    5. I understand the concern about Liverpool and their actions...or percieved actions. I think that MON addressed this issue better than I could ever address it. I can assure you we are pursuing the issues raised by MON.

Thanks for the reply General. It's good to know the board are many steps ahead of the issues people question you about here.

  11. Hi General,

I have faith that you, Randy and MON will handle the Barry situation correctly. If he wants to stay with us, I believe you will readdress his wages and make him an offer he is happy with. If he wants to leave for a club that we will be challenging with in the next two or three years then I believe you will make sure we get an appropriate sum of money for his sale (given that Michael Carrick and Owen Hargreaves cost Man Utd £18mil each, and Barry keeps Carrick out of the England team).

What I wanted to ask you about was the comments made by Liverpool in the first place. I think it is not only outrageous for a club to publicly announce they want to buy a player, but to make a bid for him, which is purposefully under his value is disgraceful. It puts pressure on the player, and if he then decides to leave, it forces the club to sell close to the original price they bid, or be stuck with a player who wants to play for a different club. Someone mentioned to me Liverpool did a similar thing with Yossi Benayoun, bidding an initial £3mil, encouraging him to want to leave, and eventually getting him for £4mil, which was probably below his value then and probably now (he still does good work for them). I want to know if there is anything you can do about this, regarding an official complaint to the Premier League/the FA/FIFA, etc, or do we just have to accept that some teams will play dirty once in a while to get cheap deals on other teams best players? I can only see such tactics ruining the future of the game, and widening the gap between the top four and the rest even further.

  12. This is my favourite Barry song:

'You are my Barry, My Gareth Barry,

You make me happy when skies are grey,

So **** your Lampard and Steven Gerrard,

And please don't take my Barry away'

    And my favourite Young song:

    Young.....

    Young will tear you apart........

    again.....

    Repeat.

    And a potential Petrov one:

    Like me, and you,

    He's Villa through and through,

    He's Stiliyaaaan,

    He's Stiliyaaaan.

    He'll strike, it hard,

    And score from 40 yards,

    He's Stiliyaaaan,

    He's Stiliyaaaan.

Still unsure about the first two lines, but I think it needs two variations sung after each other, so it doesn't get old fast. But I think we don't sing a chant based on this tune (or am I mistaken) so IDEAS PLEASE.

  13. The good thing is is that it doesn't need to be long and complicated. As long as it's catchy. And 'Young Will Tear You Apart' is pretty smart. I'd love to hear this sung at Wigan (and Everton - i'm not there unfortunately but am in Liverpool, so I want to hear the Villa fans singing all the way from Goodison).

  14. To the tune of Joy Division - Love will tear us apart -

    Young.....

    Young will tear you apart........

    again.....

    Repeat.

Simple easy to remember and catchy!

Personally I think this is brilliant. Very easy for people to catch on.

I also edited DDS's idea of Agadoo, and came up with:

    Ashley Young Young Young

    Gets the ball under control

    Ashely Young Young Young

Takes it forward, scores a goal

On the left, on the right

    Gives defenders such a fright

    Ashley Young Young Young

Makes Ronaldo look like shite!/On his webcam through the night!/(something else that rhymes with fright.)

  15. Hi General, hope you enjoyed your first second city derby. I know the fans did.

Just a huge thank you to yourself, Randy, MON, the team and everyone involved at the club. We've taken so many steps forward in the past two years and today showed exactly where this club is headed. Many fans get nervous when we play the City, mainly because it is the match above all others we would hate to lose, but the spanking we gave them today shows how much everyone has done for the club since 2006.

Keep everything up - we'll be in Europe in no time.

  16. link

Can you feel the power of our Stiliyan Petrov?

Can you face the challenge of his screamers?

He has got the passion of Aston Villa.

He will always beat you with his skill.

Coz he's got the speed, the heart, the strength to be a winner,

You're all just beginners. Watch him score a goal.

    He is our Stiliyan Petrov.

  17. I know this belongs in the chants but it's relevant to the speculation over his future, and more people will take note here. Just think this should be given a real good go before kick off tomorrow:

    'You are my Barry

    My Gareth Barry

You make me happy when skies are grey

So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard

And please don't take my Barry away'

    That's all.

  18. I know it's been posted on here before but it really is the best song for him:

    'You are my Barry

    My Gareth Barry

You make me happy when skies are grey

So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard

And please don't take my Barry away'

I think this has now become even more necessary. The Holte in particular needs to bang this out when GB runs over to us just before kick off. Really show him why he should stay at VP. Not that he's going to go...

  19. I know it's been posted on here before but it really is the best song for him:

    'You are my Barry

    My Gareth Barry

You make me happy when skies are grey

So **** your Lampard, and Steven Gerrard

And please don't take my Barry away'

He's our captain and we haven't even got a song for him

Really like this one. Think it needs to take off. As does the Young to Agadoo theme.

And I think Petrov deserves one after his goal. Any thoughts?

  20. That video would seem to suggest so.

But inevitably everyone is going to have versions of songs which other clubs pick up on.

I mean everyone uses the Do do do do MARTIN LAURSEN but with a different player inserted, the Feed The Hare song has been used elsewhere (I refuse to mention where).

And when I went to Old Trafford, the only thing they sang when Anderson was on was

    AAAAAN-DER-SON, AAAAAN-DER-SON!

About twice. And then they shut their cockney mouths.

SO I think we shouldn't let that bother us. Just give songs discussed on here a go, see how catchy they are with the fans. It's surely better than singing ASHLEY YOUNG, ASHLEY YOUNG, ASHLEY YOUNG! etc etc.

  21. General

i dont recall ever getting a response to this one (Maybe i did and im half asleep or something) but are the club going to have HEALTHY eating options/some vegetarian options too as the girls i take to games they want to watch their figure... i tell them im doing a good job of that :-P but yeah if you could look into having some healthier options, perhaps a subway like thing that'd be awesome!

    Hope you're well

    General,

Could I second this response? As a vegetarian there is only a limited option of food available inside the stadium, which seems to be chips, with or without a roll. Of course there are places outside the stadium to get food from as well, but they are hardly what you would call healthy options. :)

Are there any plans to expand the menus? Obviously i'm not talking restaurant expanding....you get the drift.

Also, as i'm here, why on some match days does the clock run from 00:00 upwards, whilst others it runs from 45:00 down?
