I feel for the guy,
but when you consistently flirt with relegation.....a ruthless approach is required.
We were relegated with Spink. He was still one of the best keepers around.
-
Everything that's wrong with the typical English 'footballer' wrapped up in one useless package.
Still, he has pace and power which is so important for the Premier League... blah, blah...

Great way to start the season, in the August sunshine, by the sea.
We're gonna get bummed, aren't we?!
It's Bournemouth not Brighton.

I don't think he's passed out. He's just fallen over and his hair's ended up glued to the road.
-
Fair do's to Jack! It does anyone good to let your hair down from time to time and have a bit of a blowout. Only an issue if it becomes the be all and end all surely?
In my work i have seen many professional footballers out on the P*** and getting absolutely smashed. And that's during a season especially when they're maybe out injured or something. We used to get regular visitors in one of the venues midweek and would close the doors and curtain the windows for privacy, often not getting out until 4 or 5 am.
So it happens, he just needs to realise there are leeches out there who will do anything to make an easy buck off someone else's position of fame. Low lives as i call them.
To be fair, it's got a long way down to go.

I'm insulted that anyone would suggest that West Ham are a step up from us. £10 to VT if they finish above us next season.
I can go along with the first part but not the second. They aren't a step up but I think they'll be above us again, as it stands. That could all change, mind.
They will be soon as long as they stay up. Got a new 55,000 stadium to move into and London is booming. Neither of which is happening to Villa.
London is peak bubble and even on the slide. Don't believe the rubbish the MSM throw at you. HSBC leaving town and taking all their drug laundered money with them. Russians and Chinese getting out of the 'prime; areas. The real crash is coming to London that was merely postponed in 2008....

I don't happen to think that's true at all, people say it about Gabby because he's quick, but if you look at players like say, Clark or Grealish, no way on earth are they athletes ahead of being footballers, quite the opposite in fact.
So you don't think that other leagues put more emphasis on technique rather than the PL emphasis on pace and power? I thought this was always the great debating point every time England come back from an international tournament. We scratch our heads and the FA tell us something must be done, then nothing, then another abject failure.
Gabby is nothing but speed. He wouldn't be a footballer in Spain, France, Germany or Italy.
Jack has great promise but has everything to prove. The fact that he is the skilful golden boy in our squad speaks volumes.
Clark I agree I like. Always have done.

I think this could be a disaster - no better than Bacuna but without the free kicks.
Jeez, even Gabby made him look poor!
Oh well, welcome.... meh.

He's the victim of the Premier League disease of not being able to run at the speed of light. Doesn't matter that he can actually contol a football.
How is that a premier league disease though?
Isn't it the same in most leagues and most sports, if you move like you are running through custard you are going to get caught out.
I like Lowton, he put in some fabulous balls but seriously, he is one of the least athletic sportsman you could ever see.

I think it's been pointed out many times (not least by me) that we tend to take athletes and mould them into footballers (Gabby).
It's not a rule of thumb but generally it seems to be the other way around elsewhere. The FA have been banging on about it for years, but as ever with the grass-roots coaching, sweet FA has been done about it.

Why clutter things with four teams. Two is more than enough. Actually just one and a load of cannon fodder would satisfy most fans, especially overseas ones. The fans are as much to blame as the Champions' League cartel imo.
Good point.
I often openly ridicule 'fans' who have no affinity to the team they follow. There always seems to be some lame excuse like their great uncle was a ManU tea boy or something. Anyone can find a glory hunting relative in their family tree.
My nephew has lived all his life in Norwich. He supports Chelsea and when i ask him what his emotional connection is with his club he looks at me blankly.
Support your local club ffs.
I know a lot of people won't agree but they're wrong

Anyone been watching 'the Football Mavericks'? We really do have an almost pathological mistrust of so-called 'luxury players' in this country.
It's not that we don't ever produce these types of player. We just ask them to play with a broomstick up their arse.

ALL of our CBs are injury prone... that's the real issue we have at the back.

If we offered him 5 million a year we would be mad
Agreed. He failed to shine in a failing team.
-
From his house in the North west getting to Everton's training ground will probably take him 20 minutes.
With Bodymoor heath you're talking a good half and a hour.
Which would you prefer doing 3-4 times a week?
Move further south, It's less wet.
It'll also take him three hours to hitch a ride home when he finds his car on bricks.
-
Sounds like the perfect excuse to me. If that happened to me I'd likely run through the street with a baseball bat. Poor, poor bloke. No excuse but his Son died a few weeks back so not in a great frame of mind still I'd imagine.
How did they recognise it was him though? Even though I've seen him on the touchline, I wouldn't recognise him if he walked straight past me in the street.
-
However his two goal at the end of the season gave us the extra 4 points needed to survive
His previous 30 odd games of utter detritus helped us down to 17th.

Needs to play in a front two. Until that comes back in vogue he's going to be a little lost.
-
We are far from a Swansea Southampton or spurs. World's apart.
Would say he's pretty much gone and like it or not, Liverpool would be a massive step up.
I disagree, I think we have had a bad few years, but we are not too far behind Swansea or Southampton, and Spurs are where we should be aiming.
I'll have what you're drinking.

Losers
in Villa Talk
Our tunnel is an embarrassing albatross. I reckon it fires up the opposition more than it does us.
I'd prefer it to be painted over and written over it: 'Villa - achieved nothing in over 30 years, do something about it.'

There were a few games where Sanchez was our best player by a country mile. Then he dropped off dramatically. Maybe there is a proper player in there somewhere - there's a glimmer of hope anyway.
-
We are the only club who would have a crap player representing us for so long. Can someone name another player of the same level be employed for so long while being consistantly unconsistanly unproductive?
AVFC
Nail on head. That really brought it home for me as I actually tried to think of one and failed. The closest I got was good old Emile....
... and guess who he played for?

Exactly, I've seen him use two on several occasions.
