  1. WoodyTom, you are aware that car insurance is one of the most loss making ventures out there? The vast majority of players pay out more than they bring in on a year on year basis - predominantly due to fees and whiplash fraud claims.

I work for an insurance company too, we make money (around 2% after everything), charge more than most but don't really dispute payouts nor seek to maximise profits - we don't, for example, have a load of add ons for our products aggressively sold.

I agree about the claim cluture, was reading an article in the week it adds £90 to each car policy in the UK. But to say companies 'loss' money is false. They pass the cost on. It's like running a book at a bookies, you pay out less than you take in. If you don't your running your 'book' incorrect.

  2. Jesus wept.

Media miss quotes, media making it up, blah blah blah. But only when it suites.

Look at the 'facts'. The way 'he' treated Genk to get what 'he' wanted.

    Nuff said.

    This is getting really boring.

  3. Theres a good 10 weeks to go until the window closes. The fact that theres been nothing of substance from foreign clubs yet has been encouraging. In England,a team will attempt to make the transfer as drawn out & as protracted as possible in order to unsettle things & drive the price down.

I'm sure Benteke will have had tentative enquiries through his agent and is just waiting to see how serious the interest is.Its disappointing that he won't commit himself publicly for another season after the faith & platform that we've given him. That said,I can't say I blame him-I'd do the same in his shoes.Loyalty works both ways, just ask Brett Holman.

I'm always a glass half full kind of person & I keep reminding myself of all the poor performances Benteke put in for us-But if he stays,I will only dwell on the positives of last season.

I'd love him to stay, even just for 1 more season, giving us time to develop the Danish striker.I've reached the point though where I wouldn't be as upset by him leaving as I would have been immediately after the Wigan game. What would hurt more is if the money wasn't re-invested (which I'm sure it wouldn't be)

That and the club not getting maximum value from the transfer.

  4. I wonder sometimes if fans and players forget just how bad the economic situation is out there.

The US and UK are screwed. The UK can only cut it's deficit slightly which is adding each year to colossal debt. The US trade deficit actually grew the first quarter of this year!

There's an enormous banking crisis looming again (it was never actually fixed) in the UK which will probably be triggered by a house price collapse (once HTB fails and the london bubble bursts), Euro collapse or interest rates are forced up.

The point is Lerner won't/can't pay anything over what the club can sustain. I reckon 50k is the limit for the top players now and i am glad of that. If you can't live like a king on that then you don't deserve anything.

You sir are correct, 100% spot on.

  5.

Lazy journalist - should be shot.

Why on earth would Lambert's Villa (or Lerner's for that matter) take on a 30 year old striker as part of any potential deal between Spurs and us for Benteke? Not fitting the 'young and hungry cost cutting' ethos we now find ourselves in does it journo? Hmmmmm?

Defoe would have been a great signing 5 to 10 years ago. But now, a final pay day... We're better than that actually. So sod right off and shuffle your chins in another direction.

Maybe not lazy, could have happened. But given that we are trying to offload Bent and the Milner deal fresh in Randy's mind you would hope he actual laughed when the offer was put to him.

  6. With the club holding all the cards £40m seems very reasonable.

This is the problem with struggling every season, this will happen time after time. Time for our management to take a leaf out of Levy's book on transfer dealings and grow a pair or we will never kick-on. At £20k/pw he can train with the kids for a year, even as the forgotten man he'll be worth at least £15m with two years left on his contract.

This business with Benteke and Weimann [agents] makes me sick.

I agree posted the same above.

  7. If he is not willing to sign an extension to his contract then what's the point of giving him a pay rise.

I have no problem selling for something above 30m, if that's made available to Lambert to spend.

If Benteke starts throwing his toys out the pram to get a move where the fee is to low. Then Villa should just throw him in the reserves and sell after the world cup next year. Time the Villa started playing hardball.
