No, by accepting a payrise and playing at the club that gave him his chance for at least another year. A bit of loyalty to the guy thats put faith in him. Thats what i was getting at.

It's his job, that stuff isn't a factor these days. Like I said elsewhere, I'd gladly shoot off to another job if it a) was more prestigious, B) would potentially get me noticed by more people, and c) pay me more than I would be capped at here. In that order. Loyalty doesn't come into it for regular Joe's jobs, why this assumption it does for footballers?

Not when you've been plucked from the Belgian league to play in England as a young bloke. Thats like a polish refugee given a job and a home in england, proving he's a good worker then has the front to say bollocks to your payrise and contract, bollocks to your hospitatilty i can get more working over there so i want out (even though you're paying me more than enough, i can stomach one more year with you..)

But I guess thats how a lot of people are thesedays. He can get his move, its just after one season it really gets me how he's just used our club.

i didn't hear you complain when the club used Benteke to stay up didn't i?

Used? WTF?? He was being paid to do a job.

And didn't he did his job or what?

    Yes, but he wasn't 'used'

If a player breaks his leg next season, that player becomes a favourite of mine. We did not deserve this treatment from Benteke.

    Sickening.

Ridiculous post. its football for goodness sake.

the rare moment I agree with Woodytom :P

but he is spot on its only a game. he has given his notice period as it would be in a real company

Not quite, someone still has to pay a price we are happy with for him to leave.

  4. We have to look at this from Bentekes point of view. He deserves to be on the same money as Bent 65k - 70k, if we can't match it for one player in the team, the best player, the goal scorer then our business plan is not going to work

65-75k won't be our wage ceiling for long. If he want's to jump skip in the mean time, the club needs to use the maximum leverage it has to obtain the best fee.

  5. "if u put a 30m£ pricetag on his head at least pay him a wage thats fit his pricetag" thats what my father said to me when i asked his opinion about it.

Why he signed a contract for £20k. If he had turned out shite we would have been left holding the baby. Putting that aside we have offered better terms, in exchange for an extension, which has been thrown back in our face.

Some you win, some you lose. Ireland being an example of AVFC losing. Can we ask him to lower his wage?

  6. Speaking of which I am more concerned HE has not signed a new contract with us. Sod the players.

Was thinking this. There are comments from Lambert regarding a new contract, something along the lines his is relaxed about it.

I think Lerner is waiting until next summer. But thinking how Lambert came to us, if and when a bigger clubs comes knocking the contract that Lambert is on won't matter anyway.

I think if a deal is struck it will suite both clubs, but perhaps neither set of fans. Those dealing with the transfer are going to be much more reasonable and objective than fans. Spurs fans (and Liverpool, Arsenal etc) think he is worth around £15 million, whilst you guys want £25 million+. The reality will be a deal that is much fairer for all parties involved. So it will probably be £15 - £18 million and then additional payments will be made according the Benteke's success that could total another £10 million+. That way if Benteke really is the player you think he will be, then you get the money (£25 mill +) for him. If he isn't and fails at Spurs (or wherever he goes) then you've still more than doubled your money and we haven't been stung quite so badly.

As I said, it's not the deal either set of fans would like, but it's what will most likely happen. There is no way we are going to stump up £25 million+ for him and there is no way you'll accept £15 million. A compromise is far more likely than no resolution at all, despite what fans might think.

So what price do Spurs fans expect to get for Bale when they sell him next summer?

Well I reckon as he's scored more Goals than Benteke, well 2 or 3 anyway, And he's had a bit more experience, but against that he hasn't played in a foreign league and he might not settle.(if you think about Modric he was their best player a couple of years ago and he's not a regular), So if they rate Benteke at £15m

I reckon £18 or £19 should be about right, maybe £20m to get the deal done

    20m for Bale?

I thought you guys were asking for 80m!?

I'm a Villa man through and through. I was just thinking about the spurs logic of Benteke being  only worth £15m

Apparently he could turn shite next year or something.

  8. If he wants to go to tottenham he is even more stupid then i tought..If our players continues to develop it's not totally out of the blue that in 2 years time we will have a better team than them..

But teams like chelsea ,Man u and cithe are in league of thier own..they buy players for massives fees and offer them massive salaries..the only way to compete with those would be if some loaded Arab or a russian jew bought us.

Your avatar gives me the creeps.......

  9.

He would need a legitimate grievance to go on strike and get the support of a union. He can't just say 'I don't want to be here anymore'. That's not how it works!

He can though. Under EU law you have freedom of movement and labour throughout the EU. In reality If he wants to go nobody can stop him. Villa are better off playing nice and giving him a clear idea of the price Villa feel he's worth. If we get that he'll be sold, if not he can stay for one more season and the price tag will be less next summer as he'll only have two years left on his deal.

If we get anything above £20m for him it will be good business but we'll never know the fee as it'll be undisclosed.

That just means you can work anywhere in the EU being a citizen of the EU. Nothing to do with being in a contract and saying bye bye I've changed my mind and you can wipe your back side on that contract.

  10. Tottenham fans saying Benteke and Chadli were at Spurs training ground on Sunday.

Reading that in the comments section of an online article.

    Daily Mail I think.

Aston Villa's Christian Benteke has submitted a transfer request but the club still expect him to stay.

The 22-year-old signed from Genk for £7m last summer and went on to score 23 goals in all competitions.

Villa have told Benteke, who has been linked with Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham, they will "act" on offers that meet their valuation.

"He will remain a Villa player should this not happen," the club said in a statement.

"He was reminded that there are three years remaining on his contract, we consider him to be a Villa player and expect that he will be with us for the 2013-14 season."

Benteke has not travelled on the club's pre-season tour to Germany, but Villa said he had already been given extra time off until 18 July before the transfer request was made.

  12. CB what a scum bag.

What will hurt more is if we get our pants pulled down over the price. No player swaps please, just hard cash and lots of it. I would like some of 'your going in the reserves if we someone doesn't meet our demands' please as well

    Over to you AVFC.

  13. If a bid of around 20m is made and he really wants to leave can the club really stand in his way? I'd be annoyed if the funds wernt reinvested.

The thing is we have probably already in effect reinvested half of it.

Yes, he is under contract for the next 3 years.

  14. What's left then. Get rid of the dead wood. Bring in a couple more squad players and Benteke to sign an extension.

Be nice if they all happen, but then it would be a perfect window for the Villa and we surely must be due a spanner in works at some point.

  15. Only two reasons for doing this, tactics being kept secret and to give any likely move a push.

It does seem harsh. Someone like Ireland would't be bothered, Bent, his pride will be hurting

  16.

    People saying keep Bent:

Not only is he totally not what we want, it can not be good for team morale if one bloke is on 70k or so and the rest are on peanuts. Especially not one who is barely playing a part.

But this contradicts the point that you've so badly flogged to death.

Should the rest of the team be annoyed because one player is earning more!?

There's a pay disparity across my department at work - it ranges from around 30-40K for people doing similar jobs - but do the people at the lower end of the scale kick up a fuss and lose morale!? No, they get on with it.

Perhaps footballers should do to!? Or perhaps a footballer isn't like a man on the street!?

I don't know; I'm confused what side of the fence you sit on with this argument. Should footballers kick up a fuss and act like the average worker (as per your previous posts) or shouldn't they (as per your post above)!?

Similar or the same. Quite a difference. In a unionized job I would think the union would not allow different pay scales for the same job.

When you work as a bricklayer, pay will vary between bricklayers based on, the amount they produce, the quality and ability. The best paid are known as 'top men'. But it's not a unionized proffession.

WoodyTom, you are aware that car insurance is one of the most loss making ventures out there? The vast majority of players pay out more than they bring in on a year on year basis - predominantly due to fees and whiplash fraud claims.

I work for an insurance company too, we make money (around 2% after everything), charge more than most but don't really dispute payouts nor seek to maximise profits - we don't, for example, have a load of add ons for our products aggressively sold.

I agree about the claim cluture, was reading an article in the week it adds £90 to each car policy in the UK. But to say companies 'loss' money is false. They pass the cost on. It's like running a book at a bookies, you pay out less than you take in. If you don't your running your 'book' incorrect.

The profit margins on sold motor insurance policies is tiny. The majority of profit comes from selling additional products like legal expenses cover

And if they counldn't make it that way, the cost would be passed on through the motor insurance policy. How they bath the baby is their choice.
