  1. The important thing to take from SummerSlam is CM Punk went over Cena clean.

But he didn't go over clean, Cena had his foot on the ropes. Punk has gone from the legit, albeit disputed, champ to a guy who won on a ref error and then lost in 16 seconds after being destroyed by a 52 year old man.

They have clawed this angle back from the brink over and over again but I think the writing is on the wall now especially with Steph and Nash now in the mix. Unfortunately due to circumstances out of his control Punk is leaking credibility as a top guy at an alarming rate.

Imagine if when Bret Hart first won the title a few weeks later Superstar Billy Graham had returned and beat the shit out of him.

  2. The Carling Cup has really caught the imagination of the Sheff Wednesday fans!!

Just watched the keeper launch it from one end of the field to the other and as the camera panned out I think I saw about 35 people in total. That includes 22 players the ref and both linesmen by the way!!!

  3. Have we got enough players for a 1st vs 2nd team?

Blimey, that's a really good question? Ireland will have to play for both!! The keepers will have to play out on the pitch too. Jeez, I hope this board knows what it's doing.

You can have Ireland in one and the other team play with 10 men. That sounds fair to me :D

  4. Can't get too upset as it is just a friendly but a cause for some concern as we seem to once again be in a position where once you get past the first eleven the quality just isn't there. It's cost us places in the past but I worry just how much it might cost us if we don't hit the ground running this season.

On the plus side this result has certainly helped in getting me prepared for the long season ahead :winkold:

  5. I really want Ireland to be a star this season...mainly just to piss all the negative doubters off!!!

This! I think he'll be great for us this season and will silence a lot of critics!

This is just wishful thinking, with all due respect.

All the evidence so far suggests he will offer us very little.

And what evidence would that be?

I'm guessing it's the evidence of him actually playing for us

Exactly! Nobody is "doubting" him, we know he's shite, it's there for all to see.

  6. Looks like the lulus are all off pawning their zimmer frames and baseball caps in the hope of getting their asses handed to them in either Turkey or the Balkans. Don't know what would be funnier; them disgracing themselves further and getting the shit kicked out of them, going into admin and getting thrown out of the comp before it starts or getting drawn against either Hearts or Stoke.

  7. So much negativity just because of one pre-season game. If McLeish, who sees Ireland everyday in training, is happy that he should be starting for us then that's good enough for me. He'll play players on merit. Give Ireland a chance in a real game before people get on his back already.

I think the negativity towards Ireland is based on his entire career (apart from a couple of motd highlight reels) not just this game.

He coasted on the reputation he gained from a couple of fluke games for City and I have yet to see him in a competitive game for Villa where we wouldn't have just been better off playing with 10 men.

  8. Can we just put this one to bed now. He's never coming good, he's not going to be recapturing the form he never actually had, city mugged us off with this oxygen thief and we fell for it... end of, deal with it.

He's a poor man's Sasa Curcic and that's being generous.

  9. I find it funny so many of the people bitching about Downing being disloyal and inconsistent are falling over themselves for this signing... guess what!? :winkold:

I doubt if any are loyal like the fans are, unfortunately.

If N'Zogbia turns out to be the success we all hope he will then in a couple of years time he may well do a Downing. By then he will be what seems to be the magic cut off point 27yrs to join one of the Sky scum.

In the meantime though we will all hopefully be treated to some exciting play and great goals so I welcome his signing for Villa while looking forward to seeing how it all works out.

Let's just hope when/if that day comes he doesn't refuse to play or sit on the bench and slag off the club like he did to the toon. Got no problem with players wanting to move on to pastures new or better things but there is a right way of doing it. Of course some fans will still slate a player regardless but he's got no excuse for the way he acted at Newcastle when he got word that Arsenal might be sniffing round.

  10. I find it funny so many of the people bitching about Downing being disloyal and inconsistent are falling over themselves for this signing... guess what!? :winkold:

I'd call this more of an Ashley Young leaving situation. :)

anyway. Buzzing about the signing, especially considering the rumours about Sunderland last minute bid and him signing monday, I expected him to sign 99% but the nervous couple days of 'you never know' situation is not there anymore and he's now a Villa player. :)

great signing. Welcome Charles 'One look' N'Zogbia .....

I was referring more to the Newcastle cry baby episode he had a few years back, I suppose he has conducted himself better this time round (unless the whole strike thing was true, which personally I doubt). He's a good player but certainly not the world beater some people seem to be expecting.

  11. They have thrown away months of good storyline by cramming it all into one night. Could have been so so much worse though, apparently the original idea was to have have Punk return, HHH beat the shit out of him and Del Rio cash in setting up HHH vs Punk and Del Rio vs Cena for Summerslam.
