  1. overall a very enjoyable game. lots of chances, had a few very good shouts for a pen turned down, hit the woodwork a few times. cant believe carew didnt get one though, he didnt have his shooting boots on today

Albrighton was ok 1st half, maybe tried a bit too hard. but 2nd half he was simply brilliant. always looking to take on the fullback and get inside, pleased he got an assist. rest of the midfielders was all very good, fair play to milner for really putting the effort in.

at the back i was very impressed with Clark. he is composed on the ball and positionally sound. definitely ready for the prem league.

still a couple of periods in the game where we sat back and allowed the opposition too much of the ball, but a very promising start to the season. good stuff!

  2. good first half. still a few times where we were trying to bang in the ball from wide even if there was noone in the box, and a bit sloppy in possession, but Kev Macs only been working with them a few days. will take a bit of time to get the direct at all cost costs approach out of the players

movement off the ball is much better though, and we are putting some nice moves together. be nice if we were really ruthless 2nd half, and rack up the goals

  3. thought we showed some nice build up play but the final ball was pretty poor. some nice passing through the centre got us to near their box, but instead of shooting or looking for a little ball through it was shovelled out wide. then someone would try and bang in a cross through 4 defenders when we only had one striker attacking the 6 yard box. a bit frustrating and something we need to improve on. if we do get ireland in the milner deal hopefully he will be the one to provide that creativity down the middle

youngsters did well again and i was impressed by NRC, who seems to have improved his control and passing immensely. needs to be showing that week in week out in the prem though and not go back to giving it away as soon as he wins it.

  4. well, it is pretty concerning that the style of play and ball retention has not changed at all. lump it up to the target man, he holds it up and feeds it wide. winger bangs in a cross and hopes someone gets on the end.

exactly the same as the last 2 seasons, and if it doesnt improve then this coming season is going to be the same as before. top 6, maybe a cup final but ultimately falling short of champs league.

cant fault the effort, but until we start passing the ball and moving, we will remain a limited team

  5. If Young had been treated right we wouldn't have to waste money on a RB. It really is sad.

He's 31 this year, might as well get a new one in.

yeah, to be honest i wouldnt mind a new RB. would like someone more long term and who has some good attacking skills as well.

young was a solid defender down the right (although i always preffered him on the left as players couldnt cut inside him) but attacking wise he was poor. for all the people complaining about carlos, youngs passing could be just as bad. he also tended to just hoof it down the line.

id even go as far to say that carlos has shown some better attacking skills than young has in his time here (assist for gabbys goal at fulham, played a lovely pass in the build up to gabbys against burnley etc). its just hes also shown a lot worse!

  6. im glad to hear we are now concentrating on smaller market of players. well thats assuming the market we are looking at is of players who are of the next step up in quality from what we already have.

considering we already have some very good players at the club, i only think you would need to add in a few top players to make a massive difference. its unrealistic to expect us to totally overhaul the team again, and do it with expensive marquee signings.

i dont think theres any point in buying to bulk up the squad now, we are not in a posistion to get quality to come and be squad filler. all we would end up with is more players like beye which would be a waste of money.

so we might as well give the youngsters a go, and to be honest they could probably come in and do a better job than the likes of sidwell, beye etc. and i think everybody would already rather play delfouneso instead of heskey.

so im happy to hear they are going to be given a chance

  7. Oh and yes Paul, what are your views on Emile Heskey.

150 games for Liverpool. All players who play that amount of games are top class right, aren't they?

    a_

Since when where Liverpool when Heskey played for them a top class side ?

Liverpool (unless you count 1977-1985) are about as far from Man U and Barcalona was bleeding Pelsall Villa are !.

Take out the years I have just said, and how many trophies have they won - I haven't got it to hand, but I would guess at about 7 ?

Fecking hell you will be saying bloody Steve Bull next as he had 500 appearances for the once mighty wolves !

while at liverpool heskey won an fa cup (beating arsenal), 2 league cups (beating man u in one), uefa cup, super cup and community shield. not exactly a bad team were they?

anyway, back to milner i wouldnt believe anything the daily mail write. i remember the day after both MON and barry said the deadline for his move to liverpool has passed, they published an article saying the deal was going to go through.

  8. JESSSSSSSSUS

    Here is the point

If someone (lets say Jonathan Greening) plays 15 games for Man Utd, then gets sold, it is fair to say, he isn't to a standard that Man U expect

Michael Carrick has played 188 times for Man Utd.

Is this hard to understand - you do not play 188 times for a club like Man Utd if you are not top class.

Man Utd are the creme de la creme - along with Barca and Real - they buy players, some players dont work - they get shot of quickly (Forlan perfect example)

Michael Carrick has played 188 times for Man Utd - how many other players have played 188 times for Man Utd ? - go on.

You only play 188 times for a club like Man U if you are TOP CLASS.

Honestly, do you think after all this time, Alex Fergusun is that stupid ?

not sure thats always true. sometimes you get players who may not be the best in terms of individual ability but are a perfect fit for a certain teams system and complement the rest of the players well.

prime example is heskey. played many times for liverpool, many times for england and capellos probably gonna start him with rooney at the world cup. is he a top class player?

i dont think carricks top class, but hes good. hes got superb passing and a very good shot, but he doesnt really run or take on players, he cant tackle, loses lots of headers and gets too easily outmuscled for a bloke his size.

everytime hes played for england (and thats alongside players the same ability or better than the ones at man u) hes been found wanting. at man u he seems to fit in much better
