Luiz you absolute disgrace
-
I'm one of his biggest fans but he's been a disgrace tonight, cowardly effort for the penalty - instead of challenging for a header he's putting his arm up
-
4 goals conceded at home is a disgrace
Yeah it deflected, but it was still perfectly saveable. He got a hand on it but completely whiffed on it
-
The ref has been shocking, but it was handball by Luiz
All because he couldn't be bothered to challenge for a header and lazily and pathetically stuck his arm in the air.
-
Pathetic, yet again a shit show in Europe
Blown it in 30 minutes
Awful, lazy touch from Watkins, and then they just breeze through the middle and our defensive line is shocking
Disgusting effort

We haven't been good enough
Sloppy on the ball, got barely anything going forwards, and too easy for them to work the ball around our box,
Lenglet charging out trying to win a ball he was never going to get and leaving space behind
-
shirt pull by lenglet

Great save, think he was actually onside
Dogshit lazy defending from us, zero pressure on the ball and two men free

Hopefully we've learned from the Lille tie that although you can get through the early stages with minimal effort (which i think was by design to manage workload across the season, particularly given injuries), as you get further into the competition you are going to come up against decent sides and you suddenly need to switch it on - I think we struggled to do that against Lille.
Still annoying that West Ham's run to the final last year was Larnaca, Gent then AZ Alkmaar; and we get Ajax, Lille and Olympiacos, which i think is much tougher.

Spurs in a nutshell
Always all out attack, so create lots of chances, but get left wide open at the back
-
Killer mentality is surely going to be high up on the list of attributes for signings this summer.
Its already been alluded to by Emery 'players need to quickly learn what it takes to compete at top end of the table and in europe'.
Too often there's been a distinct lack of leadership on the pitch when the going gets tough.
McGinn, Luiz, Konsa are 3 of our most constant and experienced players, the spine of our team, and i like them all, but i don't think any have the leadership needed for a truly top team, they're all complimentary players.
McGinn reverts to his gerrard era run around like a headless chicken and aimlessly hoof it, Luiz hides, and Konsa flaps his arms moaning at everyone else even when he's messed up.
-
I suspect summer recruitment will have mentality as a key factor
Just like Brentford, we go 2 up and the players put their feet up thinking of the european game later in the week
We've got too many who are very good players, great when their on it, but when they get the pressure on them they go invisible. And i include the captain in that.

Another half spent watching and wondering how anyone can rate Darwin Nunez.
He doesn't aim, he just tries to hit everything as hard as possible, even headers.

Where's the VAR? Exactly the type of thing VAR is supposed to be for.
They'll have bottled it because it was so early on, the usual 'don't want to ruin the game' nonsense

To have the strength to hold it up, run with the ball with defenders hanging off him, but then also have the quick feet, vision and passing ability, and finishing. Very excited about what he can do in the future.
-
I was rather hasty to give him stick in the match thread after his miss and his effort in the build up to the penalty, but he turned it round.
The tracking back and battling to win it back leading to our first was excellent, that's the kind of stuff you want to see.

That was a really excellent performance after 120 minutes on Thursday.
Didn't allow Bournemouth to create much, their best chances were from our mistakes.
Excellent going forwards, all of the front 4 were great.
We didn't look exhausted, which i think is the result of how Emery has taught us to how to manage and control games, always thinking long term over the course of the season.

Dumb from McGinn leading to that chance against

This is true, but he's been out for a month and then played 120 minutes less than 3 days ago - he probably shouldn't have started
Fair point, but unfortunately he's like that far too often even when fully fit and up to speed

Cash has been atrocious
Not just the penalty, but everything they are doing is coming down his side.
He's constantly out of position, not getting close enough and allowing easy balls across. Then there's all the dumb decisions he makes.
Prior to the our goal, he went charging in for the ball, missed it and set Bournemouth on the counter
Luckily Diaby got back and we go back up the other end and score.
-
Rogers is a baller
Great by Diaby tracking back in the build up, that's the kind of effort we need from him
-
Brainless from Cash, which is a regular occurrence.
And Diaby has been pathetic, done nothing apart from easily lose the ball and miss a sitter.
-
Very poor from Diaby

Budget squad builder Pep crying now about the schedule. clearing in the woods wanted 5 subs yet rarely uses them
Only 3 subs today, 4 midweek although 2 were in extra time, just 2 despite smashing luton 5-1 and those were in the last 10 mins, 1 in the 87th min in the first leg against madrid.
He's always moaning about something, just like that other word removed Klopp.

Learnt nothing from the Lille tie
Yet again in Europe we start the game passive and sloppy - the save Olsen had to make in the first few minutes (which was wrongly flagged offside) should have been the warning, but we carried on as we were and got deservedly punished.
The ref was shit, but at the end of the day 4 goals conceded at home in a semi-final is an absolute disgrace. The back 4 were a shambles, not helped by Luiz and McGinn being awful.
If Pau was on the bench purely for rest and he's not managing a knock, then Emery deserves criticism as well.
