  1. Gabby towards the end of the first half was superb, made that word removed Cole look a mug, getting him a booking!

    This.

Once he got himself going he was absolutely unbelievable, ragging Cole to get the overhit cross and then skinning him for the booking showed just how amazingly quick he is.

He seems to have bursts of growth as a player. Struggled a bit second half and his spell at right back (he hasn't a clue how to play right mid!!) in the second half was a shame because he'd have destroyed them on the break if he'd been through the middle. That said, his take and lay off to Young for the Carew miss was fantastic.

  2. Disappointing as they are a really poor team, we just didn't cope with the obvious tactics which they employ. Strange decision to bring Heskey on, I can only assume this was in an attempt to deal with their aerial threat and have another physical player on the pitch........the fact that Heskey is the biggest **** pussy in the history of football regardless of his size seems lost on MON.

  3. Olly was great, Southgate had a big mouth in the end but said exactly what the fans were saying, he spoke out for us and although that meant he would leave you can't blame him for what he said, deserves more respect than he ever got in my opinion. On top of that he was an excellent defender and edges it over Olly for that little bit of class in his play.

  4. Hi General

As a fan, I can't help but feel concerned by the lack of supporters at recent games. I appreciate that times are tough for lots of people but it does seem like the old Villa apathy is back, the Rapid Vienna offer was a great idea and the club has done a fantastic job of following that up after the disappointment of not qualifying. I have done a search on the thread but couldn't find an answer, how many season tickets have the club sold?

  5. Yes, as far as I am aware it was true. I would expect the manager, who don't forget made a big fanfair about the player HE signed (not a Ginola type Doug deal) and was excited about would have a pretty big say in whether he was offered a guaranteed first team spot.

  6. David James was World class when he was at Villa, absolutely brilliant week in week out but his reputation has suffered for the high profile mistake he made in the FA cup final, the fact that we were incredibly lucky to get nil in the game and were never going to win seems lost on people. I think there was a bit more to it than him getting sulky, I'm almost certain he'd said he never wanted to leave and that it was due to other issues.

Peter Enckelman virtually kept us up with his saves at West Ham but his mistake against Blues left him a broken man, he was great that season as well although it seems that he never quite managed to grab that 1st team 'keepers spot. For the record, he made a mistake against Blues, however the referee and his 2 officials made a far bigger mistake in awarding a 'goal'.

Peter Schmeichel was frankly a joke for Villa, I have little more to say. He may have been useful to Enckleman but also stopped his progression with the clause Gregory had placed in his contract that he must play when fit.

Thomas Sorensen was rubbish, absolutely rubbish unfortunately he thought he was great. Stayed on his line for crosses, made numerous mistakes, couldn't catch and was generally a weak link. He had a few good games and was a decent shot stopper at times but for me if that is all you are going to be, you can't afford to get beaten the way he used to so many times.

Stefan Postma, I'll add him in. God knows what Taylor saw in this guy, had a good game away at Arsenal but (and I was there) this seemed to me more down to him being a huge unit and Arsenal being incredibly wasteful on the day. He came out well but the continually rattled shots into his legs or body when they could and should have scored. Fair play to him for that day.

Scott Carson was probably a little unlucky with Villa in that he just seemed to have a season where things went wrong, people turned on him in the end. The mistake for England was obviously very difficult for him to deal with and effected his club form. Games like Porstmouth away where he pretty much cost us 2 goals (although 1 was a great finish by Defoe and the other NRC has to take some blame) meant that the team and the fans seemed to have little confidence in him and his confidence seemed to visibly drain away. At the end of the day, he is still young, certainly for a 'keeper and his big moves may have come a little bit too soon for him.

  7. If they went into administration, it is effectively Mike Ashley telling Mike Ashley that the club can't pay him the money they owe him from his interest free loan. Apparently the players would come first as creditors therefore he would not achieve anything by putting them in admin.

The dilemma he has is that if he sells the players then potentially the club will make vast losses and also be even less attractive to a potential buyer, hence he has to drop his £100million asking price. However, as it stands they are unsustainable and are digging themselves in further and I can't see him pumping another penny into the club to pay for the day to day running.

At the moment he is after £100million to buy the club, the buyer would also be taking on £100million worth of debt which is the interest free loan owed to Mike Ashley and a £40million overdraft with one of the banks. If they were still in the Prem, this would be seemingly a poor investment but with light at the end of the tunnel and a decent income, in the Championship, this is catastrophic and surely unless they are Newcastle fans, they would be mad to touch it with a bargepole.

That is how I understand the situation from various information I have read, I do feel a bit sorry for Ashley. Although he'll still have plenty of cash at the end of all this, a fair proportion of his wealth is going out of the window and for what? A club which has gone down the kermit and thousands of people who now hate you?

  8. Just been reading on a Sunderland forum about Newcastle and the state of the finances in terms of what Ashley wants for the club, the debt the new owner would have to take on etc etc. Hadn't realised just how much trouble they are in and how unlikely Ashley is to a) get the money he wants B) come out of this with anything close to the money he put in.
