Dominant in all phases, the better team throughout and yet if you watched it on TV you'd think we were plucky League 1'ers in a flukey cup giant killing.

If anything, we could and maybe should have won by more.

You can tell when you're beating one of the TV teams by the length of the added time - I was hoping for 4 minutes, expecting 5 and kinda bracing for him adding a couple of Sky minutes and giving them 7 - finding 11 is a f***ing shambles - in a more honest league it'd be looked into.

Martinez looked like a wall - Konsa was fantastic again, he should be starting for England, Torres was good, Cash lively and Digne I thought was really excellent - it's so good to have those five back in place.

in front of them Luiz was good and Kamara more than made up for the performance in the week - he was brilliant I thought.

Diaby was a livewire, Watkins got his goal, Ramsey came on and got straight at it, McGinn was relatively quiet and Zaniolo looked electric - when he scores, there's going to be an earthquake.

Every player contributed and we were just a little bit better than Chelsea at everything they did.

Referee was horrible - finding eleven minutes and then allowing Chelsea to pull on our shirts all the way through it - the league will thank him I'm sure, but I prefer a good old fashioned honest official frankly.

    Villa 1 Sky football 0

    Great performance, great result.

lol, are you Luke Robinson? 😂

In fairness I thought it was pretty even despite the player advantage, and don’t quite share your glowing view, but delighted all same. Think we will have a strong second half to the season after we grow as a team, develop familiarity and the new players to the division settle.

6th and still in touch at this stage after the two heavy away defeats is encouraging.

What a bizarre half of officiating. There weren’t even late flags at times, just no flags. Bizarre inconsistency on fouls and then a situation where a foul is given to Chelsea, yellow to Digne and a VAR check for a red on the player Digne apparently fouled 🤣

Reffing is honestly becoming embarrassing in this division, we used to have some of the highest standards in the world, it is shocking these days. VAR has made it worse too.

Really look out of sorts at the back . Chelsea making it hard for us. Ideal kind of game for Duran .

It feels to me like the midfield/forward set up isn’t working and putting pressure on the back line. We aren’t creating much or putting any sequences together, there seems no out all or options at any time?

  4. Twitter today suggests we are some way apart: the club has offered 4yrs at £100K pw but Ollie’s camp are holding out for £160K pw.

On this basis he is being sold.

Heard a commentator in the Brighton match showing a bloke in the stands.

Apparently he is the one in charge of their whole analytics, data, player, systems setup etc.

They said apprently the process is " top secret " and isn't even owned by the club, but hired. They mentioned him ( Or him and company ) as the reason they don't miss a beat even after losing players and staff.

Wondering if we are going down a similar route.

As you say though, yeah proof will be in the pudding, but we should have more resources to do this effectively than alot of other clubs successfully hopefully.

It’s a dedicated sporting analytics company Starlizard (related to his gambling interests) owned by Tony Bloom, their owner. Bloom made his money in the world of Sports/Gambling, Starlizard is employed by Brighton for their data on players. I guess Lange and his team fulfill the same function, however I suggest not quite on the same scale as Bloom’s company which is a sporting consultancy.

Chambers, Digne, McGinn, Kamara, Tielemens all terrible tonight.

If you're going to rest players, you should do it properly and rest McGinn as well. First half it was like we were playing with ten men. The guy was invisible, clearly off the pace. Worn out after his efforts for Scotland.

If you're going to rest players, don't play Chambers! In fact just don't play Chambers! Ever!

Digne was all over the shop, just like his country man Kamara.

Tielemens just missed everything, tackles, passes, shots. Struggled to even stand up, has he even heard of balance?

Duran should've stayed on, his presence terrified them, Watkins was ineffective.

Zaniolo was good, but he can be a bit too clever sometimes.

Bailey was lively, unfortunately the got no support, and not one good pass from Chambers.

    Jj looks hungry.

Lenglet was poor, looks slow, didn't try to play much, Konsa took over ball playing duties and it showed. He isn't and ball player.

    Just really poor all round

Agree with most of this except I thought Bailey was poor too and Lenglet no better or worse than Konsa, and I thought Konsa set the tone with ponderous, unimaginative distribution.

Ramsey looked anything but rusty and returning from injury, thought he was hungry and sharp and looked most likely to make something happen.

Its a lot to ask or expect from Duran, but he is a handful so think he is playing himself into starting very quickly, he terrified them.

Ultimately we were too sluggish, and complacent, they chased and harried and exposed our back line, Mings wouldn’t have made much difference tonight, the rot was wide spread.
