6 wins 3 draws & 1 defeat from the last 10 games with 7 clean sheets along the way. It's almost like he knows what he's doing or something...
It is quite bizarre that there are still people on here complaining. That sort of run for us over the last few years is the stuff of dreams!
I genuinely find the negativity baffling! No team wins every game.

depressing today! Derby or not if we have promotion ambitions you simply have to go to places like today and win. He is not making the right decisions in terms or personnel or formations for individual games..... so I don’t trust him to change for Wednesdays game.
Cardiff, Bristol city and Sheff weds all been beaten at the sty this season.
Take the point and move on.

I just don't get this. Every single player worked their socks off today. If anything the sitting back was to do with being absolutely knackered!!
I don't believe the manager tells the players to sit back in that situation.

I'm not really sure I get your point, I don't think anyone expected us to smash Barnsley. I think some have said despite the positive result that our performance wasn't actually that good, I certainly think the score flattered us.
I think people expected us to be doing better than we are this season, I think that is a reasonable belief.
As for taking rough with smooth, I don't really think anyone needs to be told that and I don't think anyone thinks we've a Devine right to anything. I do think people think with our squad we should be taking games to teams like Barnsley rather than hitting them on the break.
As for being positive in life, same, but I see very little positive in Steve Bruce's time at the club to date other than some of the players he has signed. It's just a shame he seems so incapable of getting the best from them.
Yesterday was a big improvement on previous games but the concern for me is yet again the rule of thumb is Kodjia plays we win and if he doesn't we don't. After 11 months Bruce seems to have done nothing to reduce this reliance.
Trent if you read the original post I was responding directly to a poster who said promotion chasing teams should smash Barnsley. That was the only reasoning behind my post about looking back and seeing that actually promotion chasing teams didn't smash Barnsley. I thought the post was based on unrealistic expectations.
Perhaps the original reason behind my post has got lost in the depths!
He has reduced the reliance on Jedinak though who we were not able to win without.

If you are going to tell people to do research and reference last season then you need to do the same. Barnsley virtually have a new squad this season as so many of their players got picked off.
Nobody is expecting us to play like Brazil so I'm not sure why you need to point out the folly of such a stance.
As for your last paragraph I think that's an extremley positive way of looking at things. You could just as easily say we are no better than this time 12 months ago and still seemingly largely dependent upon the presence of Kodjia.
Fwiw I am not impressed by Bruce overall either. My point was around the extreme views that promotion winning teams should smash teams like Barnsley. I also pointed out that despite the team being decimated that they have defeated Forest, Derby and Sunderland in the last 3 home games scoring 8 in the process.
If you support Villa then you have to take the rough with the smooth especially after what we have all witnessed over the last few years. We just like any other team have no divine right to smash teams like Barnsley.
I just tend to see the positive in life aswell as football I guess and don't try to second guess what should or will happen.

Well done him. I guess any manager would be proud to deliver results like that in those circumstances.
I wonder what he could do with a well resourced club with a strong squad. Probably deliver some good football and good results.
The point is people go to extremes. Apparently Barnsley are shit and teams should smash them. Very rarely are these viewpoints backed up by actual facts and just seem borne out of pure emotion.
Also just because he has done well at that club doesn't mean he could handle more resources and the expectations of a bigger club. Leagues are littered with managers who do well but are not able to make that step up

Do some research and discover that Barnsley have lost 19 players since last season.
19.
Yeah and still turned Forest, derby and Sunderland over in their last 3 home games scoring 8 in the process

Sorry mate, we don't even play like Brazil u14s every week, but apparently that's me backing up my vociferous comments!
Good players, poor team, terrible manager.
i have already pledged money to VT if we go up and I do not doubt it will stay in my pocket unfortunately.
Everyone has their own different views that are generally based on expectations. My experience watching Villa is generally based on hope rather than expectation after the last few years.
I guess I just like to see the positive in things rather than the negative.
I thought I saw players today that were developing partnerships with each other and growing in confidence.
I saw Hourihane all over the pitch today just as he was on Tuesday. Whelan did his job effectively. Davis and Kodjia looked like a promising partnership despite being first game. Terry and Chester again another partnership building. JOHNSTONE has looked more and more solid as the games tick by. A right back who can cross the ball!! That is a novelty!

If you think we won in a super impressive way and Barnsley were never near turning it around good for you.
The performance did not convince me.
A team looking for promotion should go to Barnsley and win easily. I can see them getting smashed by some teams this year.
I was on the edge of my seat a number of times worried we were going to concede.
I mean at one point they put one inexplicably wide, and then a couple of minutes later we tried to score an own goal and only a lucky ricochet stopped it. I mentioned in the match thread that the Commentators said 3 times in about 5 minutes that Villa had got away with that.
Cracks have been duly papered over but I am not convinced we have moved forwards as a team at all.
Do some research and look at Barnsleys home results last season. The 3 promoted teams beat them but none of them by 3 goals. They didn't even have a shot on target first half and we were 2 up by the end of that.
The way we played that game was exactly how Newcastle got through last season. We absolutely shut that game down.
Teams like us that have been through some awful years don't play like Brazil every week.
I have to say 5 unbeaten in the league. 0 goals conceded in the last 3 and a noticeable improvement in effort and application especially against Boro where we were unlucky.

First time we've scored twice in the 1st half since March 2015.
That stat alone shows just what a crap football team I support.
Norwich a few games ago?

I genuinely can not understand the complaints in here.
I am happy with 2 goals and 5 shots on target and reducing them to 0 shots on target.

I can't really understand why some would not want him in our team. Natural born leader, great player and scores goals.
If I see Terry lining up on the pitch against Hull I for one would be a lot more confident of promotion.

Gabby on bench not starting. Adds nothing really
Do you mean Gabby adds nothing to the team for a Blues derby? If you are saying that then I would be surprised. The Brum derby is the one game I would put Gabby in no questions asked.

I think it will, but I think Hourihane is taking a long time to settle. Whether that's down to him, the tactics or the people around him I honestly don't know. But I think when that three are up and running they'll be just fine.
I don't think they're a one size fits all solution though, which is why I think we need other options for certain games.
And Gardner and bacuna aren't those options. They offer nothing.
I think Bjarnsson was one of them options and I liked how frequently he seemed to get in the box. Hopefully he will come good next season after injury.
I absolutely agree on Gardner and Bacuna just not good enough for a promotion chasing team.

How are Leeds safe? They lose all games and we win all ours we finish above them.
Unlikely yes but until mathematically impossible then anything can happen

You getting that from the BBC? I think they have that wrong. 14% would be ridiculously low given they have the highest (60%) possession stats in the division. Indeed it would be ridiculously low regardless of that...and would mean Deby had 86% possession, which would be even more ridiculous. I'm calling this out as fake news.
Reading the sky sports write up there is a good chance you may be correct

Same figures on livescore but maybe from the same source?

Fulham had 14% possession tonight!
Don't think I have ever seen that low.
That defeat could de rail them

Our player of the season by a distance.
It's funny because there is a chap who sits behind me who seems to dislike Kodjia. He said at the game Saturday.
"Definitely should be Alan Hutton for player of the season but I bet all the idiots will give it to Kodjia" literally 1 minute later Kodjia stuck it in the top corner.
What is pleasing is there is a number of candidates this season. I think Jedinak has been pivotal aswell but maybe not as consistent as Chester and Kodjia. Also Baker has had a cracking season.

Too be honest not many goals have come from our strikers this season anyway. There is nothing to suggest Adomah wont do a good job up top. In fact his goals and movement suggest the opposite.
