Really struggled tonight, seemed to take a knock early on and then took ages to get running and pressing again like he has been, wonder if that affected him.

Got a little better in the second half but defo his worse showing personally this far, think he ended up with 7 touches total in the first half which must be a new PL record unfortunately.

Although, to add - he didn’t get much service.

I believe Ashley Westwood has and will likely forever have that record with four touches of a ball in a half Vs Ipswich away in a cup game in our relegation season.

    4 touches, for a central midfielder😂

  2. Incredible to think last summer many in here were adamant we should be spending £25 million on Jack Butland instead of £8 million on England international Tom Heaton.

Since then Butland has been woeful so much so he moved yesterday for £500k!

    Bullet dodged!!!

People will ‘vote with their feet’

if enough people purchase the PPV, then they will continue to charge this fee.  If enough don’t, they will reduces it.

these games were never meant to be shown live, so they are completely within their rights to charge for them.  The only thing up for debate is ‘how much’

Will I be paying £15 for a game that I can’t even invite family or friends over? No I will not. I will find alternative means where I will pay nothing or very little.

If the price was half of that, I’d save myself the hassle of alternative routes - and I know this because when NowTV used to charge about £7 per game.. I’d do exactly that.

So in my case, you can have £7.50, or you can have £0.  I’m watching the game regardless.

other people’s thresholds will obviously differ.

Its sky and BT’s job to find the sweet spot where more people are likely to buy the event than not.  And considering the expertise in this field, I suspect they already did the math and believe £15 is that sweet spot.

Exactly. It needs a reasonable price point, but I'm also wary of how the money is being divided. It should be a central pot and divided as it has been historically. Otherwise we end up like la Liga.

Even if PL or Villa or whoever charged £20pm or a similar season ticket price pro rata I'd probably pay it. And keep sky sub on top, but it's likely to be between 45-60 per month for 3-4 games which is wildly expensive for watching a game at home

Hasn't this come from the premier league and sky and bt have provided them with the way to do it. Surely the anger should be at the league and not sky and bt. Sky and bt are just continuing to offer what they have done for years.

Absolutely, I'm just pointing out how it makes me and many others feel.

Even though I've been a subscriber I've still technically breached copyright by watching non televised villa games. Morally I've justified this to myself by paying for every football sub going and telling myself they need to wise up.

But now what's the point, it's just too much money. I'm not going to spend £150pm it's mental. So in my mind I can now either pay £100pm and still breach copyright by watching Villa games now available on PPV, or pay £6pm and watch everything anyway whilst breaching copyright in the same way.

I appreciate both are the same crime, but I and many others have justified it by paying for sky and BT but just wanting to watch our teams. This has just pushed it too far imho. I definitely see people leaving in their droves

  5. They have blown it with this decision, it will literally open the floodgates of people moving to piracy.

I pay for Sky BT and Amazon prime as morally I feel obliged rather than just paying for a decent IPTV service.

However I also have an IPTV service as I want to watch the villa games that aren't televised. I feel not being able to watch your team in this day and age is ridiculous and simply isn't the way we consume media in this day and age and the PL need to recognise that fact and quickly.

However I'm fuming that combined £100pm isn't enough to enable me to simply watch my teams games. There is no way I'm paying £15 per game on top of everything else.

Either offer me the chance to pay for a villa TV season ticket. Or the sky/ BT sub comes with the choice to choose the game you want each week.

Keiran Maguire the footy financial expert has rightly stated on BBC that fans are going to en masses to piracy. He is spot on. I'm even considering cancelling my sky and BT completely now tbh.

I think those numbers are based on teams earning what they earned at their last published accounts - so for us, our final season in the Championship.

For me, the big problem here is the move away from collective bargaining - from the product being the league rather than it being each individual club - that's massively dangerous to the future of the game. I get that we're talking about replacing match day incomes, but I'd like to see the money put into the collective TV pool and divided up in the same way as other TV income.

Exactly, this is exactly what clubs such as man United and Liverpool have been wanting for years. If not done properly we could end up in a la Liga kind of monopoly

  7. Will always be Juninho for me.

That season was just so incredible. Top of the league in December, that Arsenal home game. Dublin on fire.

It really felt like Juninho would give us huge boost when on top and propel us to the title.

The huge excitement when that blurry photo of the little magician appeared in the Evening Mail him arriving at Villa Park.

I remember the £11 million fee and personal terms were all agreed but collapsed as Doug refused to pay some loyalty bonus of about £500k that Atletico owed to the player (in principle it's quite right, but ultimately it cost us big time)

He never signed and from that moment on the club absolutely nose dived, not even sure we finished top 6 that season?

Gazza when he was at Lazio.  Well he meet Doug on his boat.

Ah yes, my all time favourite player. I remember us being linked with him when he left rangers to Boro. Don't remember the links at Lazio.

Was devastated he didn't come. Loved the bloke. Used to watch him at Ibrox every Xmas with my family up.north. absolute magician

With the first part of the window closed, a good time to evaluate our squad and see where we stand with the 25 man rule:

    GK: Martinez, Heaton, Steer, Kalinic

DEF: Mings, Konsa, Engels, Hause, Targett, Taylor, Cash, Elmohammady, Guilbert

MID: Luiz*, Nakamba, McGinn, Hourihane, Barkley, Lansbury, Ramsey*

WING: Grealish, Trezeguet, El Ghazi, Traore

    FWD: Watkins, Wesley, Davis*

*Not including the U21s I make that 25 so you can see why Jota and Nyland were released

24 not including the u21s surely?

  10. To be fair to the lad, he's just had a baby and is probably settled in Germany. I really wouldn't want to move to another country after just having baby. Tough enough as it is

Leverkusen came in late for him which changed the whole day. He was ready to sign a contract with us. However, as this hasn’t happened, we now have 5 hours to get this over the line.

Not that I believe any of this, but I would hope if this is true we withdraw our offer. Have some dignity

So only 11 players at one time can be world class?

i don't think there's an actual definition of world class, it's just a moniker for players who are clearly head and shoulders above most others and would not look out of place in any of the big teams or nations starting XIs.

Yes, obviously there will still be debate, but arguably anyone sensibly in the debate to be considered for the world's best starting 11 can be classed as WC

Inevitably you'll have 3/4 for each position barring Ronaldo and messi

    Re: world class.

until someone can give me an actual definition of wtf ‘world class’ actually means, I can’t pass judgement on who is and who isn’t.

There is no agreed definition of what it actually means, so any argument about who is and who isn’t is a completely subjective argument.  And somewhat pointless.

He was one heck of a player that, in his prime, probably any team in the world would’ve been happy to have him there.

For me the simplest way to define world class is this

Do they get in the best world 11 in their position.

    Everything below that less than.

Really don't get all this talk of Jack moving into the middle. I know it might seem like he's the type of player who's playstyle works best in that position but he's best work have by far all come from the left wing.

Yeah I agree. I can count Jack's great games centrally on one hand at this level. Last week when central he looked lost at times and had the ball pinched off him several times.

On the left wing he is superb. With the added depth of quality to the team they are not going to be able to double/ triple bank him anymore and he'll be even more dangerous there

  15. The milner links probably are BS, but do people really think £8 million is expensive for a player like that?

Absolute bargain, never relied on pace and will play at the top level till he is 40 as he lives right and is an absolute beast of s professional. Also happens to be **** fantastic.

I'm biased though as I've been in love with him since his final game for us at home v West ham

    And I disagree.

Yeah I agree with you. If the player truly wanted to come here, it would have been done weeks ago.

He's making the right noises to save face if it's needed, but he's under no pressure and write happy to wait until deadline day for a better offer.

    Time to move on

  17. Goals or no goals, he affects and positively changes games when he is introduced. At this level players who can do that cost alot of money.

Davis is good value for his wages and doesn't cost a fee. A no brainer.

I still think he can kick on to become a really good player

  18. Considering how the game panned out. Them parking the bus and sitting deep it was always going to be difficult to get a goal.

Despite this every cross into the box he was sniffing in that six yard box, almost got on end of that deflected cross from Trez, drew the red card and also very nearly scored with a beauty. Would also have had a few assists if Jack had taken more care with a few chances

He was better off keeping his mouth shut like I should have about Rashica.

Some of the w*nkers we have as fans of this club actually makes me cringe. It's embarrassing.

Does this mean Rashica is now less likely than you thought a few days ago?

Traore has played forward and good scoring record from there

Yeah and Rashica can play there as well, but no..they are being signed to play their strongest positions. It's fantastic they add such flexibility to the squad. But I reckon a shock is incoming
