Seen this online, so we get a key ring, badge, pen, knew it wouldn’t be anything decent like some vouchers in the club shop or a few free pints during the season

looks more exciting than the football will be :)

This has draw written all over it for me.

Away, newly promoted team, Villa still unsure of lineup with debutants as well.

The optimistic will claim progress as we lost to Watford last season, they'll point to it being early in the season and that xyz looked good and will only get better when they 'gel/ get up to speed' and that we're only a player short of being top 8.

The negative will claim stagnation, they'll point to largely uninspiring pre-season performances and that xyz looked poor and have shown no signs of improvement from last season or coping with the Premier League and we're only a player or two from getting injuries that will see us fight relegation.

The truth probably being somewhere slap bang in the middle with average performances leading to average results leading to an average league position - 10th!

I think we will win pretty easily. But it will pretty be like last season as soon as we come up against anyone decent. I agree with your prediction of 10th.

How is it that you're discrediting other people for pointing out the bleeding obvious that it was about money, and joining a more " prestigious " club,.

Then in the same breath claim with authority that he left because he couldn't " see a route " to the first team, in a much weaker squad than the one he is going to?

The " we offered to make him the highest paid teen in the country " doesn't mean Chelsea haven't offered the same or more! 🤦🏿‍♂️

I'm guessing he would have " seen a route to the first team " if we had a better manager but offered less money ? 🤣

Anyone who thinks this is a " Tuchel " signing is playing blind. Obviously Tuchel will sign off, but it's blatantly a Chelsea recruitment team strategy signing.

    1. Didn't realize I was discrediting anybody.

2.really don't understand the rest of your post. Yes Chelsea is a more prestigious club. I'm not privy to the Chelsea offer. All I said was the villa was reported to make him the highest ever paid teenager.

    3. I haven't even mentioned Tuchel

    4. All I said was he's sees his route to the first team blocked at villa. Now I don't know but there's a high probability that is a factor.

5.As someone else posted a couple of Chelsea senior midfielders are expected to move on after next season - Maybe that's what's Chelsea have sold CC ?

I would say that he didnt stay because he wanted to run before he could walk. Because a midfield of McGinn Luiz Ramsey and Nakamba isnt the hardest midfield to get into is it.

    Should be.

But even Buendia is having trouble.

He didn’t want to stay. He was given plenty of unwarranted chances and didn’t take them.

The club made a fair offer a year ago to someone who is not even close to being an Owen, Rooney or Bellingham and he turned it down because he allegedly wanted £100k p.w. and assured game time (neither of which he will get a Chelsea). It just doesn’t work like that and thankfully the club is principled enough to realise giving in to the kids sets an unhealthy precedent.

Frankly I expected an impasse and to get peanuts next Summer or at best £3m now with paltry add-ons.

Yes, he may go on to be mega, or fizzle into the hype, but we weren’t in control. We have a conveyor belt of good talent coming through,  not all will make it, and I think £20m is frankly very good business given where we were.

He didn't stay because he couldn't see a route to the first team.

Villa offered to make him the highest paid teenager it wasn't about the money villa were offering.

I mean, well it could go towards getting a player who could make us better NOW, It could even be the extra 20 mill we needed to get a higher target, or an additional target as opposed to one.

Chuk had absolutely zero effect one the senior squad at present either way , regardless of how people want to spin it.

    Of course it "could"........

But the question remains - I don't see our prospects this season upgraded because we have an extra £20m to spend.

We aren't in FFP bother - our  owners have cash to burn ....if there was a player we wanted for £20m we'd have him by now.

Honestly I see nothing but positives out of what you wrote. Thats an astounding amount of money to get for an unproven youth player.

Add in the fact he wanted to leave even though he was getting game time, I think the club have played a blinder.

If I was a Chelsea fan i would be watching chucks glamour reels and thinking "there is another one for the loan army, wake me when we sign more starters".

Ok 9am this morning what was your prediction for villa this season (probably 7th - 10th)

5pm approx we sell chuck for £20m - has your prediction been revised upwards because we have an extra £20m burning a hole in our pocket ?

It might be picked on merit but they still have a 3 man midfield and Kante, jorghino, kovacic, RLC, Gallagher, gilmour and Mount in there

Chelsea fans seem convinced that Kante and jorghino will both leave on a free next summer and that's where he'll fit in

    Makes sense.

Like I say it looks like a good move for him.

That might be their party line but come on that's just not true

Chelsea have an army of kids out on loan every season, they're a graveyard, if he seriously believes that then his advisor has absolutely pulled his pisser

What does chuk signing mean for gilmour? Remember when he was a top talent breaking though there

Not saying he is right. But he has observed (like a fair few on here) that certain villa midfielders are fixtures in the starting 11 come what may.

Maybe he looks at Buendia not getting a start and thinks what chance do I have ?

Chelsea come knocking - and make a promise that the first 11 is picked on merit - he would be stark raving bonkers to turn it down.

I’m not concerned at all. They are a massive club that won the champions league 2 seasons ago.  Of course the move would appeal to him.  Plus he gets the London life as a bonus.

Yeah it looks a good move for him.fair play.

    Based on what?

Absolute nonsense if you're suggesting he thinks he's more likely to break Chelsea 11 than ours imo.

Villa could hardly have done more to prove he'd get minutes:

    I'm not suggesting it.

Buts he's closer to the guys that pick the team than you or I.

It looked like he seen a brick wall at villa - but opportunity at Chelsea.

Read the threads loads on here are suggesting some players are always getting a start whilst others aren't getting a chance.

Perhaps he's thought if Buendia ain't getting a start what chance do I have.

I agree we are favourites, but very easy fixtures is a step too far for me. Bournemouth, first game back up, in their ground has banana skin written on it. Everton are a tough team to beat, yes they had a poor season last year but it is never an easy fixture.

I think you are confusing a promoted Bournemouth with a promoted Leeds or Newcastle big clubs who spent a few years out of the PL.

Bournemouth are minnows - who bounced back at the first attempt and haven't invested in the squad - I don't anticipate there being a wall of noise at mighty Bournemouth.

Stevie G won't say publicly - but I think he will be demanding and expecting 3 points from this one.

  13. 2 minutes ago, Vive_La_Villa said:

Do you really believe he’ll get more chances at Chelsea than Villa?

Kids gone for the money. Don’t blame him for it either.  Wouldn’t surprised me if he’s loaned out.

To be honest I don't know.

However CC obviously feels he isn't going to crack the first team at villa - but fancies himself at Chelsea .

Should he be proved right that's should a major concern for villa fans.

  14. 3 minutes ago, Peter Griffin said:

Yes we are favourites but to say Bournemouth away and Everton at home are 'very easy' fixtures is a little overzealous

    Come on !

Bournemouth are in a worse state that the promoted Bournemouth last season .

There manager is in almost open revolt over the lack of incomings and there own fans arent hopeful of avoiding the drop.

We always seem to do well against Everton who were in turmoil last season.

In PL terms they are easy fixtures.

Wow, £20m. Really? I don't get it. I mean he's been decent, but.....

I thing we've nicked Chelsea's wheels with this one. I think we'll defo sign another, now.

    Time will tell.

CC obviously didn't see himself getting into the villa team. But thinks over time he can crack on at Chelsea.

Personally I think this is a sad day for Aston Villa. - not a good one.

Yep, it is quite ridiculous. Both the over-zealous criticism of Gerrard as well as the stoic defences of his ability as a manager. Right now he seems to a middling manager (albeit with potential) whose biggest strengths are his pull to sign players (not a bad one) and interviews. I'm on the fence and I won't be too quick to judge either way, but they're needs to be a considerable improvement in our play this season.

    Exactly this.

As you say so far middling results - perhaps with mitigating circumstances.

But has a decent quota of his own players him - and despatched one of our promising starlets.

Full pre season nearly complete. And two very easy opening fixtures.

    Over to you Stevie.

I mean £20m for an unproven 18 year old is great value.

Good riddance. All the best getting playing time there mate.

But us having £20m to spend. Really isn't a game changer for us is it ?

  18. 1 minute ago, dubbs said:

So we offered him more money than Chelsea are paying him? Didn't we also offer Grealish more money City - apparently.

Surely not a national media outlet having a sly dig at Villa?

I can't believe people can't see that Chelsea are a going places club.

CL winners a couple of seasons ago. Likely to be in the top 4 mix this summer ...

Who wouldn't want to go there.

  19. 1 minute ago, villa4europe said:

The most of any 18 year old

And then we've offered to make him the highest paid 18 year old in the league

Can't say villa didn't do their bit

    In a way we did.

Maybe just maybe , he thought Chelsea looked the better prospect.....it's really hard to argue with that viewpoint.

Great deal for us as I assumed he would leave on a free.

And fair play to him, lots of people on here said “no-one would want him anyway, it’s all agent talk” but Chelsea want him enough to drop £20m. Doesn’t mean it’ll work out for him but fair play, he was wanted by a club playing European football after all - up to him now…

Looks a great move for him imo.

For us ....well what does £20m get you.

I'm sure he took a pay cut to go to Chelsea for first team opportunities.

Wow - you must be really well connected.

Chelsea seem pretty good at pumping out young players - Connor Gallagher and Tammy to name but 2.

I'm sure he won't be disappointed if his career follows the trajectory of those two.

Oh - yeah he could have stayed , not get picked and watch us get us 10th place - and a manager who has a presence when he walks in a room.

He must have spent ages mulling it over !

Chukwuemeka news coming out of the blue, illustrates my excellent point from yesterday that just because we're not getting constant updates in the media doesn't mean we aren't close to selling players or that we're struggling to sell them, I wouldn't surprised if a few more are very close to leaving as well. Clubs going to leave it late in some cases to buy our players, to save on wages.

    Seriously 0??????

There's been non stop rumours of CC leaving imo.
