  1. It's not my fault you're stupid. In the 09/10 season we had no sponsor, during the end of that season we get a ceo to drive to get revenue in the following summer. Randy says sell to buy, wage bill too high in relation to revenue. Why on earth did we spend two seasons without a sponsor if we needed money? Why only in the summer of 2010 did we get a ceo and go try get a huge income stream like a shirt sponsor?

What was happening up until then, years of no ceo, years of no sponsor. Randy let the club get like that and only write up to the reality I'm the 09/10 season.

There is no need for the abuse is there, calm yourself.

I dont understand why your ignoring my question about how things in the past make us a poorly run club now?

But i suppose there is a reason why you ignore questions and twist everything else.

Anyway this thread is not about Randy or how things are run its how Villa fans overreact to a little tommy squeaker never mind a manager appointment.

Since randy took over he has poorly managed the club until he realised this in the 09/10 season resulting in the breakdown of relations with O' Neill. He'd he erin the club properly and increased our income by tapping the stands all other clubs did we would probably still have o'neill. The current mess is the result of Randy's mistakes in his first years here.

That is what I've said repeatedly, you just fail to understand simple English. Randy mismanaged and now we are still in that mess as he tries to fix it.

Yes, he made mistakes as an owner, considering it's the first time in football, like anyone, a player or a coach ....you make mistakes. Same with the owners, you learn from those mistakes and that's what he's doing and now rectifying. Although the view O'Neill would still be here etc...is just sheer speculation.

We've finished 11th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 9th under Randy.....I'd say overall, he's done a fine job for this club, it's a shame you don't feel that you can give a board time to work things out, a board who have put a £100 million+ into the club but that's not good enough for us ...

Well I just think the big mistake was letting the club get to the level it was financially at the end of the 09/10 season. We get a 12mil per year sponsorship that summer with fx pro, revenue we clearly needed the previous too seasons. This mismanagement led in my view to the departure of O'neill which has resulted in us being here now with a near certain pure managerial appointment.

If Randy had run the club properly from the start, had gone out and got the best football ceo he could and tapped every revenue stream we would not be here now. The blame for our relegation battle season is his.

That is my opinion and it has a very solid reasoning for it. Nothing off the cuff or random about it, I've detailed it many times before. I'd prefer a properly run club to this one.

Don't agree with this at all!

The shirt sponsor: The club went with Acorn's in support of a local charity, a move which was hailed at the time, and something I still massively respect the board for doing.

I want to go into this more; at the time one of the reasons for going with Acorns was that we couldn't get these £12m a year sponsorships that CVByrne keeps mentioning. It was a case of not being able to get big sponsorships, so instead of taking £1m or £2m deals with shit like LDV Vans, we did a VERY good thing and helped out a brilliant charity. In the mean time, we may have even made a little through promotions, maybe not. But I am really glad we partnered with Acorns instead of getting a couple of million for MON to waste on Salifou's wages. When we could attract a large deal, we did, and our partnership with Acorns continues. Fantastic owner.

  2. I have a suspicion we are deep in negotiations with someone which is why they feel no need to release a statement on Mcleish as the new manager will be unveiled soon.

If this was the case and nothing was going on I would have thought Mcleish or his agent would have said something public. He's getting hammered by villa fans and blues fans and being accused of things from the blues board.

If none of what's being reported is true it's surprising that mcleish would allow himself to be spoken about so much in the press.

Not suggesting that we are in deep negotiations, but if we are, Birmingham will know as much about it as the journalists do, and could well just be assuming like most that it's because he's resigned for Villa and like the scum that they are, have spat their dummy out and starting abusing everyone left, right and centre.

  3. Randy is the one man at the club who should know all the incomings and all the outgoings. We got to a point where we couldn't/wouldn't spend any money in the summer after our best season in years. I don't see how anyone can argue that this is running a club well. For reasons unknown we also lost a good manager, replaced him with one that did a poor job and had health issues and now seem to be after a manager who was relegated last year after the Wigan manager didn't even want to attend an interview.

Randy being a good guy doesn't stop him from making mistakes.

**** Randy Lerner, how did he not know that Houllier's 10 year old health issue would come back?! surely Houllier had a medical before we hired him, but i am ANGRY that Lerner listened to the doctors and not big_john_10

  4. FACTS.

Liverpool last season took from 3rd of June to 30th of June (4 weeks) to replace Benitez

Fulham (look how quick they are this season bla bla bla)... took from 30th June to 29th JULY (4 weeks) to get a new manager.

I dont remember them clubs getting this amount of stick.

great point. i really can't understand why so many fans and the media are attacking the club with so much venom. what makes this situation any different to other managerial vacancies in the past? the chelsea job currently? it is ridiculous and a good deal of journalists and 'supporters' need to **** right off

  5. And when McCleish is not appointed can all the knee jerk 'fans' who have been lambasting Randy and the board and taking the medias word as gospel, **** off?

I agree. i have a lot of trust, which is being tested, but i still think we're going to come out of this correctly.

  6. i'm pretty positive when it comes to the board; I tend to trust what they say and do. All I can say is that I hope they know what they're doing. I still know what I think is happening and I hope it comes through, then Villa can laugh at the media and the rest of the footballing world.

However, the more this goes on, the more my confusion turns to worry. I really **** hope we're taking the piss and we get our man.

  7. It just seems like people are honestly expecting us to get a World Class manager. As much i know we are BIG club, it seems most other teams and the press disagree with that which counts against us. Hopefully whoever is appointed can change that.

I'm really disliking a lot of Villa fans right now. Kicking and screaming because they're not getting their own way. As if hundreds of thousands of people would all agree on one decision. That is why it's the board, the ones who are actually interviewing these men and listening to their plans, have the decision. While the board have made mistakes i also admire the way they have been rectified; and this is the way to success.

  8. Martinez would be a very poor appointment.

    Wigan under Steve Bruce

    2007/08 - 14th

    2008/09 - 11th

    Wigan under Roberto Martinez

    2009/10 - 16th

    2010/11 - 16th

    Steve Bruce > Roberto Martinez

I love these types of arguments, so you're trying to tell me that different seasons don't have many variables like teams around them strengthening, while they also lose playes and are not able to replace them. We finished 6th under Oleary one season then scrapped for relegation another, same with Leeds. So does this mean DOL>DOL??? People should try and look at things more objectively sometimes. Having said that I still want Ancellotti, but would also welcome Martinez.

Well you haffi luk pon di facts. And facts tell yu dat Steve Bruce mek Martinez luk like novice!

    Because he's Jamaican-Villan, right?

  9. Hi General,

This message may get lost within a sea of excited fans expressing concern about the current manager situation, but I just wanted to express gratitude for the way you handle such a barrage of questions and accusations when there is drama at the club. I don't believe I would have to patience to listen to so many people who, let's be honest, are reacting to pure speculation. I am happy that journalists seemingly don't really have a full understanding of what's going on, as it will allow the negotiations to go ahead without pressure.

    Get us the right man!

  10. If the next manager is Mark Hughes, i will feel entirely numb to the situation. Almost as if this last season was an alarm, a wake-up call, but we're just going to hit the snooze button. I want Villa to get up and go to work. Moyes really would be the ideal candidate, I just can't tell if he's being coy or kind in his interviews dismissing the speculation.

    **** Mark Hughes.

  11. I haven't read the thread yet but judging by the radio I get the feeling I'm in something of a minority.

I thought that was a decent performance marred by one individual error and some very poor refereeing - if Bent had put away his chance I think it would have been a deserved victory.

There were good and bad things in it for me and it was two games really, the one where we had the ball and the one where they had the ball.

In possession I thought we were good; dangerous, quick and comfortable changing the shape at half time after Emile's hissy threw us a bit, but we always looked the more likely scorers and I've come away slightly surprised that we haven't won it.

When they had the ball we were less impressive; there was an end of season feel to our efforts in closing them down at times and we allowed them far too much possession.

Individually, Walker needs to learn that he can't lose the ball in the positions he does, when he was defending he was good today, when he was attacking he was good today, the problem is that he's sometimes attacking when he should be defending.

Albrighton looked flat and could do with the summer I think, there's some zip missing from the legs, some whip missing from the crosses and some joy missing from the shoulders - hopefully he'll have all three back for next term - today he didn't add much and I'd have considered taking him off for Delfouneso with ten minutes left.

Young had a good game, a goal and what should have been an assist the highlights, but he was a real threat in the first half before he got moved inside.

Reo Coker was man of the match for me by a distance, he was the only one of our players who really threw himself into stopping Wigan having possession - he was good with the ball too.

Petrov has the wisest head in the team, but sadly the legs are disappearing from under him - this time next year he'll be Pires.

Downing was good, Luke Young solid, Dunne and Collins so-so, Friedel okay and Heskey reasonable until he went bonkers and almost did a Les Ferdinand.

The referee was atrocious after a good start and the linesman on the Trinity Side even worse - players will get tense, terse and tetchy when you let them kick each other for ninety minutes.

Finally, credit to the small group of lads in the Lower Holte who managed to light the game up for the last fifteen minutes with some persistent noise, they even got us going in the Lower Ellis. More power to them.

A good crowd, an end of season nothing game for us played against a team fighting for everything they've got, we were still comfortably the better side and should have won.

    Meh.

I stopped reading at "decent performance"

you shouldn't have, he made a lot of sense

  12. Can someone tell me why so many of us think Clark is going to be a legend. His tackling is shocking and he is a card waiting to happen every time he gets on the pitch. The kid has some serious development to do on this front if he thinks he is going to make it in the Premier League.
did you not just see him dispossess odemwingie 1 on 1 in the box? brilliant defending.
  13. Ireland will never ever be a top player because of his personality and attitude. We can't expect to babysit him and 'treat' him the way he thinks he should be treated, it's a very simple set up in football, you do well in training and prove yourself the best option for a match, and you get paid unimaginable amounts of money to do it. Ireland came expecting to be first choice, had quite a few chances and was very poor. When we was dropped and told to prove himself he threw a hissy fit and begged to leave.

Then he goes to Newcastle, slags off Birmingham and hails the way he has been treated at Newcastle after being there for a few weeks, saying he'd love to stay there for years when he hadn't even set foot on the pitch for them.

Complete joke, and personalities like this should be kept a long long way from our dressing room. Sell him for as much as possible as soon as possible and if there is no buyers just cancel his contract, damage limitation.

  14. General, in regards to the above message.

It annoys me that a very select group of fans try to push certain things though to the club that can have a large effect on everyone - the 'anthem' initiative for example. The club listened, which is great, but i don't believe that most fans are qualified to make certain decisions, meaning the end result is questionable. I know a lot of people would have preferred Riders In The Sky, a much better atmosphere to the song, but that is by the by. Another case in this thread, asking the general to bring back Clarrie Blue. In my opinion, some things should stay in that era.

The kits - I'm not a fan. For one, yellow away kits are horrific and should stick with the Doug Ellis era. I'd also like to point out from a design point of view how the use of bright yellow, golden yellow, purple, claret and light blue is not complimentary at all. Anyway, that is not the point. It is annoying how a lot of fans seem to think that Aston Villa and Nike do not have a team of professional designers including people who are aware of the clubs history. This is what people do for a living and i trust them a hell of a lot more than i trust fan 'mock-ups' on the internet.

Please General, keep 'side-stepping' these questions as strangely I trust the club with its operations.

  15. this man disagrees.

He's not been that great lately either. Besides which, since when did one player make a team?

He's been in the press lately has Kaka, saying they think they can just turn up and stroll through games and how that attitude needs to change. I don't think that's necessarily the case, I just don't think they're very good.

Milan are set for a tough year. To add injury to insult they recently lost Pirlo for at least 3 months.

Oh, and they struggle most against counter attacking teams :winkold:

my point is that a team cannot be "nothing special" if they have a player who can turn a game at the drop of a hat. he might not be on form but in my opinion one of the top 5 midfielders in the world.

  16. it's europe, this game will be a taster for the group stages. OMG it's gonna be awesome, I think the roof will come off villa park if we get AC Milan
I'm afraid it's the wheels that will come off if we get AC Milan.

Really? Have you watched AC Milan recently? They're really struggling right now, though they did have a good result against Lazio the weekend. They're defence is sloooooow, they have a 39 year old Maldini at the heart of it. Shevchenko is still missing easy chances and Ronaldinho is still on a downward trend, both were dropped at the weekend.

Believe me, AC Milan are nothing special.
