  1. Yes - by not following/doing the Twitter searches.

It's a bit hard 'not to read' them if you go into this thread isn't it?

Oh well then perhaps we should have a veto on twitter and switch to 173 pages of an everso intellectual moan.

No comedy tweets... no supposed ITKs....no newsfeed updates.... just the occasional update off the AVFC Official Site

    or SSN.

Even change the name from Villa Talk to Pravda, for those old enough to know what I am on about

Ha Ha The official line from the bloc. They used to come out with some twaddle.......Pravda that is :D

  2. The crux is, and every manager ask's the first question and same question is - how much are you going to give me to spend on players?

Lerner is skint and there's every chance that wolves will spend more this summer.

Thus I wouldn't say he's a cert but Lambert is certainly better than I thought we'd end up with (if we get him).

  3. I returned mine and my sons last season with a week to go. I haven't regretted it and the money goes on stuff my son and I enjoy doing (shooting and fishing mostly). Basically the club have lost us bar casual visits of say 2-3 games a season. Like the opening post I'm 50 and have seen us win everything bar an FA Cup.

  4. it's clear some wealthy individuals are having a laugh to make some money during a quiet period.

Someone's ramped it up on McCarthy and will probably make a few quid and then bugger of when normal service is resumed. Talk sport are reacting to the odds changing but have amazingly forgotten to mention this possiblity.

Place a bet on a long odds manager to shorten the odds. When his price comes in lay him big time and make a load of dosh from unsuspecting punters who think there's a bit of insider going on.

    i.e

McCarthy stars the day at 20/1 so you bet £1,000 on him = potential win of £20,000 if hes appointed.

this bet (and possibly others involved too) result in his odds shortening to say 5/1.

At this point in time you lay McCarthy for £2,000 and 5/1 and if he's not appointed you get £2,000.

Overall, if McCarthy is appointed you get a profit of £18,000 (but that's the long shot).

if he's not appointed you're still up by £1,000 (your £2,000 from the lay less your origingal stake on McCarthy when he was 20/1).

The risk is whether the odds shorten. McCarthy's odds will now no doubt start to slide out once all the pro gamblers have finished.

    End of Story!

Betfair have traded £0 (Zero, nothing, **** all) on McCarthy being the next Villa manager.

  5. I would give next season a break if he came in. Honestly. It'd be different if I lived in Brum, but my interest would wane so much with him in charge that I'd probably just check our results on livescore.com each evening.

That's what happened to me last season. I saved an awful lot of money and enjoyed myself doing other stuff. If they want to lose another 8,000 odd ST's they're going the right way about it. I told them not to put the price of ST's up too.

  6. Lambert has a rolling contract so Norwich's hold over him only goes so far.

    About 12 months? ;)

Har har. It depends. It might only renew on July 1st each year meaning it's currently 1.5 months. Or it could be like MON's where the end is always 1 year away.

I'm not convinced Lambert would come given the choice. McCarthy and Bruce would though. (come on Lee Clark)

  7. Probably too late for Lambert. Without knowing his contract status, Norwich wouldn't even allow permission to speak to him.

Rodgers would be gettable with a boat load of compensation. He would also ask how much he would get in the warchest. I'd say not much.

Lee Clark is free and would jump at the chance. He will, in my opinion become a top manager in time and is just about my choice but any of the three would be OK.

Benitez - NO. Anyone Ferguson recommends because their Dad came from Govan - NO.

  8. Still not a fan.

Played well against a poor midfield, last year Pires looked like Iniesta vs them. Come up against a decent team before we can judge him

Wolves should offer a better test of the Stan / Delph combo, as it will all areas of the pitch, Dunne needs to get Doyle in his BP, Young needs to nobble Jarvis early doors and Bent needs to free himself from Johnsons shackles

Wolves will offer a real stern test. Basically Delph has to do all the running around and Stan does what he does and is captain.

That last bit isnt a great slight on Petrov. It was disappointing to read a well known poster slate Makoun in last season's wolves game for not standing up for himself when in actual fact he did and gave Henry as good as he gave. However Jean Deaux has problems and the best thing for him is away probably.

Stan cant really run anymore and if there's one thing you need to do in the prem its run. I think Big Eck will play three across the middle to help out. I'd play Gary Gardner in a 442 with Stan, Delph and Albrighton as the one wide man.

  9. He isn't as good as the guys he replaced. Thats why he only cost half as much. you reap what you sow.

If you're talking about Downing the stats say different. Stats don't tell the whole story though but even then I'm much happier with Zog than Stewart 'Sherry Drinker' Downing.

Dalglish valuing Henderson at 20m, Carrol at 35m and Downing at 20m (or whatever they were) means he's lost his marbles.

  10. Must congratulate the ECB and Edgbaston. On Wednesday 4 of us went at 36 quid a ticket with my son getting in for 1 pound!!!

Wonderful day had by all apart from the buses, out of and then back into town.

  11. Before Petrov came to us, wasn't he a goal scoring, attacking CM? I was under the impression that he was, and that it didn't seem to work here, so MON switched him to more defensive and holding role. Did I misunderstand his pre-villa role?

I think you have that right.

srssmith is right and furthermore Petrov was played on the right of midfield by St.Martin for about 6-7 months. He would have have monumental rows with Melberg, also playing out of position, at right back.

  12. In fairness to Delph, his teamates kept giving him the ball with a Chealsea player already on top of him and no outlet. Hard to look good in those circumstances.

In rugby this is called 'a hospital ball'. This has been going on for a while and Petrov and Downing are masters at it. That said the movement of our players is shite and I mean bollocks.

We need Parker or McCarthy and we've more chance of Parker.

  13. I'm not being funny but if we got Parker in as well, we'd have a better first XI then MON ever assembled - the kids have come good, a world class keeper, an explosive and consistent winger and player of the season last year (and making a PROFIT on player sales!)

We're still thin on the ground but this is an exciting team:

    Given

    Young Dunne Collins Warnock

    Albrighton Parker Petrov N'Zogbia

    Ireland

    Bent

When did the kids come good ? - seem to recall us loosing every game when we had the kids in ?

man u home 2-2. A real makeshift side that day.

  14. If we are only offering £50k a week - we may as well forget it now - he won't come.

    50k a week for N'Zogbia?

I think he'd jump at the chance.

At Wigan he must be on what, 20-25k??? (thats a guess, would love to know the actual figure)

Cant see Wigan paying any of their players much more than 25k a week.

I'm sure N'Zogbia would love the chance to earn 50k a week.

Sounds alot to you and I - but if you think gabby is on 65k - that gives it some perspective - 40k is rock bottom for a prem player these days

Wolves highest earner is O'Hara on 35K per week.

  15. Funny I've been saying for a while we were a feeder club only to get dogs abuse on here for it. Who'd have thought it

Some clubs have got more money than us Richard, get over it.

    :crylaugh:

You wont me to get over it? Funny as I have been saying for two years we do not have enough money and it is other fans who have been telling me I am talking bollocks!

You're making out if you are some kind of Nostradamus. Waiting ...still....for the plaudits of your amazing prediction. It was obvious from day one that we still didn't have the dough of the likes of chelski and man u.
