.......are we going for a striker or what?

It won't be Werner. Didn't the rumour come from Dan one of the Villa View guys? I don't disregard that he'd heard something, but always thought Kodija would be the back up for Wesley. Maybe there's an iron in the fire for something different up front, but if Maupay would of thought the deal to be done by now.

  2. I think the problem with Hourihane is his skills and attributes don't quite fit perfectly within the system we play at the PL level, where he could get away with it in the Championship. His best position is probably as a AM. As some have already said, once the new DM's become fit, he will probably start coming off the bench and come on when the CM need a rest or we're chasing a goal. He's a good professional and works on his game, and offers something different, but will probably be off the bench.

This is Villatalk. Ive seen players judged on their signing interview

lol... I remember some of those bagging Bouma early days, and over time he became a colossus. Every player needs time, they don't always have a start like Dublin.

  4. Steer was fantastic for us, but he was prone to small errors which he didn't get punished for in the Championship, in the PL he would. We needed Heaton and he'll pay the club back ten fold.

  5. I'll be holding my opinion on Targett until he's had at least 10 PL appearances for the club. He's been with the club for 4-5 weeks and a couple of friendly games, it far too early for any considered opinion.

  6. I think it comes down to knowing yourself as a person. When I was young I was good at a number of sports, football and athletics in particular, but I used to get frustrated on the football pitch as I was reliant on the team (I know, never played well with others). I was more comfortable in athletics as it was all on me, training, performance etc. Hence I drifted towards athletics when I was older. I eventually went into coaching but worked hard, studied and now continue to coach to this day.

Coaching has so many facets, but being able to communicate your vision and unlocking people's potential with the right information is key. Smith seems to have this in abundance.

We really playing the midfielder goals and assists stats game, in the Jack Grealish thread of all places?

Delph was immense for us in his last 2 seasons, let's not get it twisted. If he wasn't, we wouldn't be so bitter about him leaving.

I thought we were bitter because he signed a new contract and stated he was staying, only to back track and sign for Man City. Hence the term snake, which was commonly used by supporters at the time.

I don’t think anyone is certain of a start. I do think we need another forward off Wes at least away from home when we will be more defensive. Maupay fits that bill for me. I think he will become a very good player.

I agree we need another forward, but I have a funny feeling Kodjia is the back up. And if he is the back up then buying another forward may be seen as a luxury. Time will tell.

  9. I believed at the end of last season we were the best team in the Championship. If we could sign most of the spine and upgrade some players. We would be a better team under Smith. But even I didn’t anticipate what has been done so far... It will take 6-8 games for the team to properly gel, but we have a head start and the style of play against Walsall was even better than under O’Neill. It is going to be exciting this season and where this squad might take us.

  10. I was watching some young red headed lad who was talking about Villa yesterday, and he made the comment, "if you don't know who Aston Villa are", after spitting out my weet-bix for breakfast, I'm thinking are there really that many ignorant people who can't go back further than 3 years of premier league?

PS fan of the Villa View and Villa on Tour.

I didnt think they actually said they wouldnt take any loans but just no loans that we just gave the player back at the end.  They are happy to make loans they lead to us buying the playeer at the end of the loan if it has gone well.

Your right, they would only take a loan if the option to buy and fee was set at the end of the loan period. But my argument is why would they do this with Tuanzebe, if he was available to transfer? The media is talking about another loan, not with an option to buy.

We still very well could do once they arrive back from Pre-season tour.

All this "he's signed a contract, get over it" talk is complete nonsense. - People obviously forget Fabian Delph.

If Man Utd do not want to sell him now then we take the loan - but insist we have a right to buy at the end too.

We have already done Man Utd a favour for 18 months, now it's time we started dictating a little.

Maybe, I just can’t get my head around the fact that Purslow and Smith categorically stated that they will not be making any loans.

    Time will tell.

If I was CP then any loan I would insist on inserting a buyout clause at the end making the deal permanent. - £30m should be enough imo.

I agreed they have turned into a joke of a club and I think Wee Olë will be out on his arse by Cristmas.

I thought the exact same thing and was about to write then thought, why would we loan someone we've already loaned, yes a buy out clause, but we already know we want him, why wouldn't we just buy upfront.

Don't know about this, Purslow and Smith were quite adamant in the interview after the play off win that they would not loan any further players, to improve them and send back to their clubs for them to cost more. The only way I see Tuanzebe at Villa is a permanent move.

Man Utd are a shambles, the manager will probably be sacked before Christmas. It would be great to do a deal for Tuanzebe, as they have poached some of our best players over the past 20 years.

I think Bournemouth are just trying to get the most amount of money for their asset, it's a sensible business strategy and I'd expect us to do the same if we were in the same position. They know we have a matching clause and are prepared to wait and see if anybody else come in with a bid, it seems like they may have already bought a replacement for him meaning they are well set to play the waiting game.

Another spanner in the works is recent interest in Ake, if he were to leave then they may not let Mings go until they've found Ake's replacement.

I did have a discussion with  @QldVilla about why I thought this wouldn't be a straight forward deal right from the start, Bournemouth aren't some hard up club that just hand over players when the big boys are lurking. It's going to take patience if we want to sign him for anywhere near our valuation of him.

Yes Nostradamus but you only read what you wanted to read, I didn't say it would be straight forward, I said I thought Bournemouth would be reasonable and they may still be. I said:

" Mings is an important signing for Villa, the best defender we have had since Laursen and is a leader on the pitch. I believe we'll sign him, yes another club may offer silly money, but I think he wants to be at Villa, Bournemouth will know that and should be reasonable in dealings with Villa. Purslow has already put it out there, we won't pay over for players we've improved. Where Mings wants to play his football will play a big part."

Being reasonable doesn't mean they were going to bend over, it means if they want to sell the player, they should be reasonable, that may mean they want to bring in players before selling, or it could mean as per Purslows quote, they were unreasonable and the club has moved onto other options. No one knows except the club. Maybe Mings after his holiday and time to take emotion out of it, wants to fight for his place at Bournemouth? It is all speculation.

One of the things that was mentioned by the club at the recent supporters group meeting was Villa Park.

The club are currently doing lots of small building jobs to bring the club into line with Premier League regulation and to improve on some areas which were identified as needing a tidy up. Mr Purslow bemoaned the speed with which things become "normalised". He recalled his first week or two when he was looking with fresh eyes and noticed everything and talked of how familiarity means it becomes more and more difficult to notice the little things that need to be changed.

Which is where the club would like a hand - those little things - the wrong badge, a poor finish on a counter, a badly painted beam, dirty brickwork, poor signage - everything from the gates to the toilet roll holders - anything and everything you see at Villa Park that you think could be improved without having to knock down and rebuild a stand.

The club would be grateful if we can point those things out, so that they can look at making as many improvements as possible - quick wins that make Villa Park that little bit more presentable.

So, what would you fix, improve or change?

Doesn't the club have a facilities manager? It seems a lot of these things should be picked up by a facilities manager who looks after the maintenance and capital works at Villa Park.

It was noticeable when I was there a month ago that the hardstand/car park in front of the Villa store had a lot of pot holes, and minor subsidence issues, should be dug up and redone.

If the report is true and Leeds want 30m for Phillips then nknchance should be paying that. He was worth half of that at best.

Best thing to do is see where Leeds are in Jan and if they are not near top of the table then we might be able to get him for half the price if we need

I trust the club, but I'm not as convinced with Phillips, believe there are better players and for a far better price.
