To be fair, wasn't it when Gerrard was here?

Alternatively, he decided he didn’t trust Gerrard to give him enough games and went to the club he (I think) supported.

I’d forgotten it was under Gerrard when he left, so maybe it was a factor. But besides, how could he have envisaged he’d get more game time at Chelsea? It’s been a graveyard for youngsters for years.

    I'd take Chuk back.

I think he'd be quality with Emery managing him and would fulfill his potential.

He decided he was too good for us and wouldn’t sign a contract if remember correctly. Why should we take him back?

I'm trying -- I'm really trying -- to get on board the "this is OK" and "I will accept Dougie leaving" and "McKennie ain't so bad" position but it still just ain't happening for me today

We’ve lost big players in the past and it will continue to happen. It’s the nature of the game.

Personally I think he is the most logical one to move on and I feel very pragmatic about it. It hasn’t given me the hurt or anxiety of losing players like Barry and Milner did years ago. I guess that having the best manager we have ever had in my life time has something to do with it. He will have a plan.

There are signs he will be evolving the team and style of play next season and perhaps in hindsight Douggie will not be dynamic enough for this. He was unable to play any other role last season and was largely ineffective when paired with anyone else but Kamara.

That’s fair and probably the generally held view by now… but some of us don’t like the deal (and don’t have to) nor the loss of such a key player. It’s not easy or straightforward to replace him… imo at least.

If we replaced him with a top player, would you be happy with the deal then?

Btw I have always been a huge fan of Dougie, despite being let down with his dramatic tail off at the end of last season. We need to sell someone sadly and he’s the most obvious one out of our better players. And if rumours are that he refused to sign a contract extension, then it’s even more obvious.

  5. McKennie and Illing-Junior are players to just help augment our squad. Neither are like for like replacements for Doug. I’m sure we have someone lined up later in the window. Until then I wouldn’t worry and see this as a good deal that will increase depth in the squad.

  7. He’s not just playing amazingly well, he’s also becoming a leader. His fight and determination is an excellent example. This guy really cares and I agree that he’s our best player.

Carlos sprinting into their box to block out our 19 goal striker and then miss the open goal in the process is worse than anything Diaby has done tonight, and quite possibly the worst thing I've ever seen a Villa player do in 30 years, especially under these circumstances.

He's brainless, all he had in his mind is him being able to take his top off and flex his muscles. Clown.

He can't beat a man, provides terrible final balls/crosses and has awful decision making.

You just described the Bailey of old. Let’s hope he can emulate the Bailey of old’s resurgence too, because right now it’s like playing with 10 men.

Yeh that's my issue if you've watched him play RW before. Put Tim in from the off, push McGinn further forward and put Bailey in his actual position.

Not slating Emery, I just think it was too passive and we should have played a more attacking set of players. Not many options for sure but could have taken more risk IMO.

What players? Everyone’s injured. Team picked itself tonight.
