Wish I shared your view. Our new left back isn't match fit and our new midfielder, who i don't think has the immediate quality to start, isn't eligible to play. Our midfield is very lightweight and will get bullied as in the Everton game. Only chance we have is to play 4-5-1.

Not knocking the new recruits but i would expect them to compete next season, not this.

I think Randy did fine and lets face it if Dempsey didn't turn us down this place would in a far better mood. So we spent 20 million and if Dempsey came that would have been higher. Lambert picked the players who came in so he takes any flak imo.

Nice for the lad but if these lads flop and we go down I just don't think Lambert will be as widely respected as he is currently among the villa fans.

My thoughts are, he's a young lad and a big unit. We don't seem to produce many 'big' strikers through our academy and reserves.

Maybe PL sees the potential in him but also wants the Academy/Reserves to play the same style as the first team to aid their eventual intergration.

By signing Bowery, he'll play most of the season in the reserves with the likes of Drennan and Burke.

This!! Methinks he will play ressers and a few cup games, the first team strikers will be Bent, Gabbs, Benteke and Weimann with the Fonz either sulking in the stand/bench or out on loan! We need to chill out a tad, we are signing players with potential, we aren't in the situation of spending tonnes on proven players, Lambert works best with rough diamonds that he can polish into a winning unit who will play for each other and I'd rather have that than some petulant multi millionares who think they are the dogs nuts!!!

It seem people will never be happy unless we're spending big money on already established Premier League players, yet that's exactly what got us into such a big financial mess in the first place. There seems to be this perception that you can only be good if you're an experienced established PL player. People seem to be completely ignoring the fact that our best player in the opening two games have both been players signed from abroad.

I'm all for bringing in young lower league talent but for the future and not with them being expected to improve the starting 11.Remember its the first team needs strengthened not just extra numbers to bulk the squad.

Dunne, like others in matches, has made mistakes and there have been "rumours" of a bad attitude last season but without him after his injury we would be in the Championship.

I think we've spent about 5m net tops so far. Unbelievable after the horseshit Faulkner fed about the club learning from their mistakes and knowing what they had to do this summer.

This side has nearly been relegated in the last two seasons. Yet we're still not trying to replace the quality that Randy sold off.

Totally agree with this. Lot of PR bull earlier to get people to renew season tickets. I know the window isn't closed but they have hardly got the pulses racing with the ambition shown so far.

Well with 1 week to go to kick off I have to say I am unsuprised of the lack of ambition shown by the board. They managed to do something right for the first time in 2 years in appointing Lambert but the transfers show little signs of making us a force to be reckoned with. We are still very short on numbers of first team quality players unless this week proves to be exciting.

If Jones can't score a bagful at Stoke who always hoof the ball into the box I can't see him doing well here. Injury prone too imo.

As crap as Gabby has been he is still better than Fletcher. Worth 6 million at the most.
