  1. Now it is the Mirror, but the Sanchez Flores link has been there in the background the past couple of weeks. At the very least the board should sound out his representitive to see if he would be interested because, and I can't emphasise this enough, I would hire him every day of the week over Alex McLeish.

  2. I'd like to put the plane thing to bed with my *theory*

Last week his plane departed BHX and MacBhx (of Twitter fame) asked on an aviation forum where it had gone to. Some bloke, who is normally pissed at any given time of the day, and likes to give replies even when he doesn't know the answer (to appear ITK) said Madrid, and that was famously tweeted.

Cut to me checking and finding that it had actually gone to Corsica, which is where it went when Mr Lerner was talking to Gerard Houllier. The aircraft came back and went to the US for the weekend, returning monday morning.

In the meantime Alex McLeish resigns from Birmingham City from his holiday in 'Italy', which turns out to be the Italian island of Sardinia, which happens to neighbour Corsica, but is still divided by water.

To compound things Mr Lerner's private jet leaves for Corsica late yesterday and returns today.

If you have got this far, my theory.

Mr Lerner liked Corsica so much during his meetings with Gerard Houllier, that he bought a place there.

The movements of his jet in that direction are people sorting that out for him (finalising, readying, overseeing alterations etc.)

Mr Lerner spent last week in the UK, working on the new manager thing. On Friday he went home to spend the weekend with his family (family is more important, despite some losing sight of that). He returns to the UK Monday morning and has remained here, working on the managerial appointment.

So nothing going on on the new manager front that is anyway related to the movement of his private jet.

Sounds completely fair and plausible to me.

  3. the geezer is very confident in what he is saying...

probably talking out of his Anus but

    AVFCMysteryMan Sky Dream

@talkSPORTDrive #avfc are a big club and within 24 hours Moyes will be manager then you can think again about saying we are in panic mode

Just someone pretending to be the ITK who used to be here and is now at H&V. Just after some attention and I'm not going to give it to him.

  4. What a joke.. absolute joke.. cover it up all you like..but he rejected the job. We may have not offered, yet he rejected even wanting the chance to offer.. whether we offered it or not is relevant. A 37 year old Wigan Manager.. rejected the Aston Villa job.

Job will now go back to McLaren. What a farce this club has become. He is the only one desperate enough to come.

Meanwhile in other news.. we let our best player go for the third season running. Bye Ash. Ugh......

    Heres the melt down.

    Well done Aston Villa FC.

Overreacting a touch I think. McLaren is likely going back to The Netherlands anyway. Vitesse I believe.

The only thing this whole episode proves is that the media have been wrong at every turn. They thought Hughes was leaving Fulham to join us straight away, which was wrong. Then they thought McLaren was a shoe in - Lerner didn't want to interview him because of the fans reaction. Now the Martinez issue.

My opinion, the board are doing this carefully, exploring all possible options no matter how high or low of a reputation they hold, and that is the right way to be doing things.

It's all a symptom of a long summer and the journos having not much else to write about.

  5. So what have the itk's been saying? Ancelotti??

If it is ancelotti it makes sense that he would be gobsmacked as he said last week he was taking a break

My understanding is they haven't named any specific person, just that they have heard the board have someone in mind and it had the potential to cause the kind of shock the Bent signing did in January. They didn't want to name names in case it ruined the deal!

With regards to facts, this is my understanding of the situation. Feel free to correct me:

    - The board contacted a lot of people when the search began. Martinez and McLaren are two confirmed. We can assume there are many more whom we don't know about or some we suspect, but haven't heard any confirmation about (eg. Ancelotti, Moyes)

    - Villa made contact with Wigan about Martinez 9 days ago but as he and their chairman were on holiday, they have only been able to get back to the Board in the past two days. We will likely find out by early afternoon tomorrow if he will be the guy or not as that's when Dave Whelan wants to know by.

    - McLaren had an interview scheduled earlier this week but Lerner, after he arrived in the UK, cancelled it reportedly because of the fans negative feeling to his potential appointment and an interview would've been a waste of time.

  6. What's this Shaun Teale business...?

He posted a tweet saying "Gobsmacked, if true #utv", igniting the idea that there's something big breweing behind the scenes, which corresponds with what some ITKs have been saying - if you believe them.

  7. Calm down. It seems to be just a random guy tweeting, asking what I'm assuming is a local Spanish journalist if Pellegrini would be interested in the job. If you see his earlier tweets he asks Marcotti the same thing but in English.

  8. The media thought it was Hughes. Then they threw in Ancelotti. Followed by McLaren and Benitez. Now it's Martinez.

I wont believe anything until the club release a statement. There's too much smoke and mirrors going on along with journos putting two and two together and getting seven.

  9. A manager the calibre of Ancelotti doesn't come along very often. He's a winner. He's got no current contract. Perhaps most importantly to me he seems fiercly loyal. He didn't deserve to be treated the way Chelsea got rid of him. Maybe even with Wilkins along side him again? I think the feel good atmosphere around Villa would raise astronomically with Ancelotti in charge and that's what this club needs right now.

Players have often been quoted as saying they wanted to work under O'Neill and that was one of their reasons for being drawn towards Villa. I very much imagine the same could be set about Ancelotti.

To me he is the stand out candidate amongst a very good field. I would not be disappointed in the slightest in landing a Moyes or a Hughes.
