  1. Barcelona 18 year old central midfielder Ilaix Moriba has one year left on his contract and won't sign a new one with them because he wants a higher salary than what they're offering at the moment. He's not taking part in their pre-season as a result. We know Barcelona need money so he is likely to be sold.

Every Premier League club forum will now likely have a post like this one - we should try and get him.

    Just because.

Just re-reporting the same news from a few weeks ago that we were already aware of. Schira is known to do this and is generally considered to be very low on the "tier-lists" of Football Journalists when it comes to transfers.

On a tangent I think Brighton signing Mwepu will prove to be extremely shrewd. Cracking player by all accounts.

Agree. Brighton are probably going to make £80m+ from the sales of White and Bissouma. Clever operation they have running down there.

The journalist replied that the deal isn’t dead as we could simply come back with a new offer, but shows we won’t get fleeced

Yup. He said negotiations not completely closed and that we had offered less than 20m Euros (but no specifics).

I think this is just haggling (French TV revenue drop this season means clubs are trying their hardest to get the best up front value they can) and will eventually happen, sometime after the COSAFA Cup has ended, so perhaps here more concrete news towards the end of July.

Remember the summer transfer window doesn't close until the end of August, like in the old days. They scrapped the "closing before season begins" variation as many clubs complained.

If we’re not offering enough then Newcastle have zero chance of getting him. Probably Watford too.

Like I say, I think this is just a negotiating tactic. Club or Agent putting it out in the media to try to get Villa to "speed things up".

French clubs need money due to the drop in TV revenue so it could be Metz haggling for more, or needing the money earlier so they can do their own deals - can't really blame for that.

I think the fact the player liked all our stuff on Social Media and so on was very telling. Nothing's going to happen over the next week whilst Senegal are in this South African tournament anyway - much like with all the players currently at the Euros.

  6. As posted in the Summe Speculation thread:

Translates to "negotiations with Villa have been suspended as we did not offer enough."

Pape Sarr is still with the Senegalese National Team at the moment I believe.

    Just seen this..

"Concerning Pape Matar Sarr, negotiations suspended with Aston Villa who did not offer enough. Newcastle and Watford are also interested in the player"

Think this might be a simple negotiating tactic - I think Pape Sarr is still with the Senegal National Team for the SOAFA Cup.

So talks start on THURSDAY 🤔🤔🤔

If you go way, way back to the initial report in Calciomercato  it stated clearly that his Agent would arrive in Europe to begin talks with Ajax and Villa today (Thursday).

All the other reports we've read so far is news aggregators, local papers, twitter posts and lost-in-translation views from Argentina all bouncing off of one another in one big echo chamber of no actual new news!

Nothing concrete could possibly have had happened yet in any direction so I've not been stressing about any of the "new" information appearing yet. That might change over the coming days, now that his Agent is here, but we will simply have to wait and see.

  9. Just over a month ago L'Equipe in France posted an article that said we were interested in Bordeaux's Medhi Zerkane, having followed him for 3 months and having made contact with his agents.

Well yesterday Zerkane was reported to say on Algerian TV “I don't know anything about Aston Villa's interest in me. What is certain is that I am in Bordeaux, and I have no desire to leave, especially since I play regularly."

So I think that link can be scrapped for now.

waiting for these links for young attacking south american players to get round to thiago almada...

Another interesting talent. He's heavily linked with a move to Marseille this summer. He's in the Argentinian team for the Olympics so I don't know how that would affect a deal for them, time wise.

Is it now easier to pick up non EU talent cos Brexit or something?

Specifically South American players at top tier clubs there.

The primary reason being that the Copa Libertadores is now given the same weighting, points-wise, as the Champions League. So if you have a South American target playing regularly at a club in this competition, especially if they're in Brazil or Argentina, they will now almost always automatically qualify for a work-permit.

  12. Douglas Luiz been named in Brazil's Under 23 side for the Olympics.

The Final, should Brazil progress that far, is the 7th of August. That is one week before the Premier League season starts so it will be interesting to see how and when he is integrated back in to the squad (I speculate that he may not be selected until the end of August/September so that he gets enouch rest).

  13. Perfectly fine with this. A veteran presence in and around the dressing room, which is something Smith obviously values, that adds depth in a number of positions for a minimal outlay that means we can allocate transfer funds for players more likely to start in the first eleven.

  14. I think we're going to be looking at a young Centre Back to eventually take over from Mings to partner with Konsa within the next couple of seasons.

Tuanzebe maybe because of the previous link there. He is someone who I think will leave Manchester this summer as he only has one year left on his deal and United are looking to sign Varane or some other Centre Back to partner with Maguire.

I think our board will look elsewhere - someone with a profile like Loic Bade from RC Lens who is showing significant potential at a very early age and is comfortable playing on the left side, if not necessarily left footed.

  15. 8 minutes ago, villa4europe said:

If he was left footed then I could see it but there's no way we buy a RB from chelsea

At 18 we don't even loan him

He only has one year left on his professional contract. Chelsea are trying to buy Hakimi from Inter to play RWB. They have James and Azpilicueta there too. His route in to the first team is stuck.

If he wont sign a new contract (and agree to be loaned out) Chelsea will likely off load him this year to get some kind of money + sell-on clause to him.

It's been stated many times that we're being very aggressive about adding quality to our youth ranks in any way possible. Look at the outlays recently on Shakpoke, Barry, Swinkels and Bogarde. This would be more of the same.

Hasn't it been quoted somewhere that we'd looking at players with English football experience?

Not saying that we wouldn't look at the continent (it would be daft to rule out players from abroad completely), but I don't think we'll be focusing resource there.

That has been said somewhere you're right (Birmingham Mail and/or The Athletic maybe).

My thinking is that that specific requirement is for those players who will be, more often than not, playing in the Starting 11, such as Buendia. It makes sense that if you're paying a lot of money for Starting 11 players, you would like to know they've performed at a good level in the Premier League before.

However for backup players (of which any new full back would be considering Cash was only purchased last year and Targett is signing a new deal) it makes sense to also consider utilising the continental markets where time and time again we have seen that bargains can be had. Now if someone like van Aanholt comes to us and is quite happy to understand his place in the current pecking order (Targett is the starter, you're the backup pushing him for his place) then that's great. Although I think PvA, Bertrand etc. are also likely to get offered either more playing time or higher wages at other teams (particularly Bertrand because he helps with the Home Grown issue) compared to us.

It's about allocating the transfer kitty in the most efficient way possible. Also you've got to think with this being both Lange's and Mackenzie's first Summer window they've had adequate time to properly prepare for, I think it's more likely than not that we get someone from outside of the UK.

Just my own opinion on the situation though. I've got a lot of faith with the current setup and are both excited and interested to see how they approach adding to the team over the Summer. They're already off to a great start.
