Don't know why people are slagging off the team selection. We have won nothing with our "strongest" team...

We have played this season, without Jedinak in a two man midfield, without either Hutton or Richards at right back. With two strikers up front, one of which was McCormack playing off a big man (Gestede on that occasion). It was against Rotherham.

And how..... how many **** managers is it going to take to get a professional football team throwing the ball to each other?

One. It should only take one good one.

So I got enthusiastic about  Villa again.. then I saw them play and reminded myself to stop.

£20 mil plus of strikers and not a shot in the 2nd half. What are we an early retirement option?

Before this game I thought Kodjia had looked good, and McCormack had created more scoring chances than any player in the league.

At least Bruce now knows the size of the task facing him.

Abd that he should never let Richards anywhere near the 1st XI again.

10 minutes of research before getting here and a new manager should know that Richards shouldn't have been anywhere near the team.

She's also got the son you end up having to look after, he's a full grown man but you end up paying his way.

Bruce is so underwhelming to most that I think it could actually end up being a very good appointment.

We've tried the young and hungry "Gee it some PASHUNNNNN" type. We've tried the studious professor type and we've tried the 'Champions League winner but not done much else' type.

Maybe we just need to try a good, old fashioned sturdy English man?

I don't think it's the type of manager we've tried that's the problem, it's the fact that we haven't had good ones, whatever their style.

  7. What I've not managed to get out of anyone yet is what do they think Bruce brings it terms of his talent as a football coach?

And I don't mean answer he got promoted. I mean do you think, he is a great tactician? A great coach on the training ground, will he develops players? Do you think he's good in the transfer market etc..

I want to hear a detailed reasoning for his appointment from someone who believes in it. Other than he got promotions, as I've said before, that isn't enough of an argument many awful managers have had promotions from this league. What sets Bruce apart?

Our first manager in years that has actually achieved something and some of us are atill bitching.

Lambert, McLeish and Di Matteo all got promotions before coming to us. McLeish got a trophy for Birmingham and a 9th place. (Higher than Bruce's 10th) Not that I'm saying they're good managers, just that Bruce isn't the only one with a record before coming to us.

his transfer record is appalling, as I said yesterday for every Dugarry their is a Heskey, O'Shea, Huddlestone, Brown, Hernandez.

he started the mess that Sunderland are currently in

Don't forget he also bought Hutton, Richardson and N'Zogbia at some point too.

The key difference is we have a new owner now who wants to put money in to the club and see us succeed. A lot of these complaints read as if Lerner was still in charge.

No because my biggest worry is Bruce spending money in the transfer window, his track record is awful.

Odds on Alex Bruce being one of the first signings in January?

He only played nine games for Hull last season, and is crap. If he signs him it'll be dodgy as f***

Goodbye next villa manager thread, see you this time next season.

    Although hopefully not...

I thought we were sacking him if we go up, 'cause he's a crap record in the Premier League and assume sacking him if we don't. So, yeah, see you next year.

    • Promotions are a pretty relevant point and encompass so many elements that you need to get right to achieve it.IMO

If you see his promotions as proof that he has all those skills I listed than fair enough it is your opinion that he has all that in his locker. My personal opinion after watching his career over the years, is that he is a very limited manager. Who is especially a disaster in the transfer window, leaving a club with when he goes with a selection of jobbing journeymen they can't shift.  Like I said before he can organise a team, but that is the absolute bare minimum I would expect from any manager.

I could go on to list at lot of failed, and terrible managers (admittedly IMO) that have got clubs promoted. Roberto Di Matteo, Ian Holloway, Alex McLeish, Owen Coyle, Tony Mowbray and Phil Brown off the top of my head. That fact that he has had more promotions than others, as I said is because he has had opportunity to repeat it, instead of staying up.

On who the managerial messiah should be. Honestly, I really don't know anymore, but I'm of the opinion that the footballing experts our club pays hundreds of thousands of pounds a year to, should have a wider breadth of knowledge of football coaching across the world than me. And be able to find more than the first, out of work jobbing manager that most people could've thought of. Look at Southampton, they've consistently plucked managers from (relative) obscurity.

If someone's name is put forward, I'll do a bit of research on them and form my opinion.  Dyche for example (although unlikely) seems like a good solid coach on the way up in his career. When he might not be a superstar for us, I don't think he would be a disaster.

But my opinion is my opinion, I mean at the time we hired them I was, fairly nonplussed on McLeish, really pleased with Lambert, absolutely fuming about Sherwood, and thought Remi Garde could be great but was a total gamble. So I've got a scattered track record, I'm not afraid to admit.

did you forget the 4 promotions and the England Candidate?.....did they all have that as well?, or was that not so convenient to write.

OK so, England candidate means nothing as far as I'm concerned the judgement of the FA is absolutely terrible. People on here completely disparaging Hodgson and actually was England manage.

On the promotions, he got more than other managers yes, but some have less because they stayed at the same club. Or haven't been relegated, so weren't down there to get promoted.

My point is what about him, makes people think he'll get us promoted this season?

His tactical decision making, his coaching skills, his ability to bring through the youth, his scouting skills and transfer dealings, his ability to turn round a failing team in record time?

Or because "four promotions", because I would like the reasons for an appointment to be more in depth and researched than that. After all Neil Warnock has more promotions than anyone, are we assuming Cardiff to go up this year?

My initial point on the captain comment still stands.

Without hitting me with the 'we're a bigger club' rhetoric..... can someone give a logical reason why Dyche would leave Burnley, after a relatively safe start to the season (in the Premier League!!!!) for us, sitting 19th in the championship and a utter shambles. I have no problems with respecting him as a manager but surely its blind hope that there is any chance he would come to us..... am i wrong? Please, anyone explain it to me, I'm all ears (or eyes as i can only read what you write)

Honestly, money. There is no other pressing reason.

Sorry I haven't posted on Villatalk in a while guys, I've been wanking for days and days since the rumours of Steve Bruce's arrival came out. Hopefully no-one noticed.

Make sure you take on lots of fluids.
