  1. Got to say to have a Chairman that on the Monday is at Liverpool watching a football match then a few days later donates £5million to the arts and nips over to Africa 'on a special National Security trip', is pretty bloody amazing. Does he ever stop just being the best to have happend to a simple football club.

So what's next for Randy then General - end world poverty, cannonisation? The man is a STAR

  2. Why not change the flag every year. We change the kit just as often. Or have a bit of variation and have 2 or 3 flags and alternate match to match. Surely its all part of image and brand recognition. It will look great in the stadium but even better on TV and in marketing literature simply because so many more people will see it.

They could even raffle it off each year for charity.

  3. General - can the club please petition the FA about the ludicrous instruction relating to the treatment of players on the pitch and having to leave it once treated. I can just about understand it when it caused by genuine challenges, but when Gabby was clattered by Hanneman in the second half, we were penalised at the resulting free kick, which was in a dangerous position by not having him available to challenge for the ball. It also freed up a Reading defender to mark our other players. Injury needing treatment as a result of foul play should not result in the offended team being forced to play for however long with a reduction in players.

  4. Cheers :)

    Is there usually space there?

yes, they have a tarmaced carpark next to the station and an asphelt one a little further up the road or on street parking right next to it.

The benfit I get for it is it really reduces the travel/parking costs, I can get away from the ground pretty quickly without leaving early, and its a fairly comfortable journey.

you could have done all that via pm, or on a new thread. This one is for Q&A /comment for Gen K.

  5. I tend to travel to games on the train, parking my car for free at Lea Hall Station. It costs me £1.90 return, I'm not sitting in queues burning fuel for an hour or so, do not have to pay high parking fees if I want to park off road or worry about what state my car will be in if I do. It also takes me about 50 mins to get home after most games

  6. General yesterday was my first away game for about 10 years and with the result and everything turned out to be a really super day. However,I have to raise some concerns with you about the away end at Wigan. Not sure if this is the right approach but as the club is responsible for the behaviour of its own fans then think it appropriate.

The concourse (about 20ft wide in places) with refreshment bars, toilets etc is on a raised diase about half way up the stands. From here there is a single entry and egress point for each of the six blocks.

At half time most of the Villa fans were tring to leave the stand to use facilities by these single point, s enter or exit the toilets or make their way to the refreshment bars. This resulted in a massive crush point (not helped by the behaviour of some Villa fans) with the potential for serious injury, especially for the many young children at the game.

There were no stewards or police on hand to try and control things.

Having escaped the crush I found a steward at the front of the stand and asked to see the senior safety steward but he clearly had no idea who I was asking for. When I finally got to see someone in 'authority' I got the impression that they didn't no how to handle such a large away following and to be honest couldn't care less. In fact whilst raising my concerns another steward told me I was blocking the aisle and to move.

I was in block NS3 where my experience happend and can't comment on the other areas, but the Wigan Ratings thread seems to have some simlar comments.

My main concerns consits about the lay out of the stand, the poorsity of the access points and the poor training of the stewards and lack of getting involved. (I think Wigan hire in there stewards from an outside company). Hope the club can raise this with Wigan to try and improve things in future.

  7. General, just a quick point.

I went into town today and saw several adverts for villa, that is most encouraging. However I mentioned right at the start of Randy's takeover that the signage and directions to VP from the road. As of yet nothing has changed and it is disappointing that on the roads into villa - Tyburn, Lichfield, Gravelley Hill, aston Lane, newtown row there is little of it, it is poor and no claret and blue. are there any plans to do this or are you limited by the authorities on what you can do ?

Road Signage is the responsibility of the Council (and even they have to follow Government guidelines)and the club can not just go out and put their own signs up on the roads. If you use the train to get to the game the station signage has now been badged withthe Villa crest, so things have improved in some areas.
  8. I thought Knight did really, really well today. He was good on the head, and looked comfortable to be honest.
Nope at fault for their goal - and went missing a few times especially towards the end.

But do I give a monekys now? NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

actually it was Mellberg who lost Forsell, Zat was marking Jerome
  9. First derby game was in the 80/81 season at VP - Peter Withe was out (suspended) and David Geddis was up front with Gary Shaw. He filled the breech admirably scoring two in a three nil win.

First away game - season after - couldn't believe how run down St Andrews was - the number of Villa Fans that turned out, the rivers of piss running down the terrace, and the walk back into town with thousands of Villans with it kicking off everywhere, especially under Masshouse Circus.

  10. It was great to see a good attendance and result onb Saturday again General, but if we keep getting attendances of 40,000+, as I hope we do, the trains and buses need serious consideration. Saturday was the worst it has been in a long long time. Queues were running from Witton station ,down the rampways, along the pavements and spilling onto the main road. This is quite a concern for the club, the railways network, and the police. I wondered if the club are in consultation about how to improvew this situation? Can we get more trains/buses more often?
I was in the same situation. Decided to go the other way to Perry Barr and get a train to Birmingham from their.
  11. I really like the idea of a statue, but think that we could perhaps do a 'time-line' type commemoration, from the earliest days of the club including all of the greats. For me this could then be added to over future generations as new greats come along.

  12. btw, just realised, I saw the smiths twice on that tour once at Liverpool Uni (the day of my Uni interview) and once at the Tower Ballroom

Red Guitars were the support, which reminds me..........Good Technology, which I now HAVE to listen to right now

**** me. Same tour as me - Victoria Hall Hanley. Support should have been the Telephone Boxes.
