  1. Spurs have got a talented squad, but we're hardly years behind them - just a couple of wins. And yes I do think we could beat them for players right now.

We are a year or two behind them, they are higher up in the league than us despite playing in europe

whats to say if next season we finish in a UEFA cup spot, we don't struggle like Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, Middlesboro did and have quite a poor season?

your judging it on league standings, despite us not even playing in europe, which notoriously damages UEFA cup teams domestic seasons

the fact that only 3 of our first team 11 would get into their first team 11 at full strength says it all.

From a villa fan point of view i can understand why people think we can get all the quality players

but from a neutral perspective i can see that Spurs are much closer to the top 4, they'll be challenging for the UEFA cup next season, they have a much better squad and they are in London, where as we are mid table in the premiership hoping to get to the position spurs did 2 years ago

Spurs are now getting use to the busy workload of regularly playing in europe and the premierhsip, like the top 4 have had too, that usually takes 2 years of 60 plus games a season to really get to grips with, theirs a big chance that if we qualify for europe at the end of next season the following season we finish mid table.

I get the feeling if neutrals were reading this they would be laughing their socks off, deluded villa fans at it again..

anyway thats the last i will say on the matter as its getting tedious for all

    Boruc

    Young

    Distin

    Defoe

    and a few midfielders please

  2. You're worryingly very defensive about Spurs here!! Rolling Eyes , and you're not making sense, they wanted Young and was even said to be ready to "hijack" our deal, if they couldn't afford to pay the going rate then WE BEAT THEM, it's as simple as that, although no doubt you'll try and dress it up another way to suit your feeble argument,

As i said some members here love Spurs.

Jesus wept, you need to take off your claret and blue tinted glasses

do you honestly think at this moment in time we can beat Spurs for players? even though they have a much much stronger team and are in europe? If it wasn't for them getting to the quarter final of the UEFA cup they wopuld have probably broke the top 4 this season

i can't believe i have to argue this, maybe in a year or two we will be at their level, but at this moment we are far off from them.

i heard that they wasn't willing to pay the transfer fee as they didn't believe it was value for money, which i agree with, or Boothroyd has had a whisper in his ear to come here instead, which is fair enough but without that whisper in his ear i'd be very suprised to see him in birmingham.

But back to the original point, Darren Bent, i think any neutral can tell you where he would go if he had a straight choice between a team in europe with a great chance of winning the UEFA cup in contrast to a team who's solely competing in the premiership.

I couldn't give 2 shit's if you think i support Spurs, the winding up games you like to play doesn't bother me

I'm just able to realise that the whole world doesn't revolve around Aston Villa, and other teams do actually progress and become very good teams as well.

We have a good basis to build a great club, but its about slow progression, we haven't even got into the UEFA cup yet and had the league struggles which accompany it

  3. Bent will join Spurs on Monday, and Defoe will join us next week. That's a fact.

You heard it here first. Well, almost first.

wouldn't suprise me at all tbh

i've been thinking this would happen for a week or so

don't let the deluded one's hear you say this though, they still think we can beat Spurs to Bent :?

At least the "deluded one's" don't HOPE Spurs beat us in getting Bent!!, like certain members here do!!

Never mind though, i'm sure Spurs will beat us again like they did with Ashley Young.

no one hopes that what so ever, its called being a realist, which i wouldn't expect you to know much about

yeh you've got a point with Young, oh no actually you haven't they didn't want to pay the 9.5 million as it wasn't value for money, so they was never in the running to sign him anyway.

It was out of us and West Ham, they offered 7 million plus Davenport, but he went to West Ham instead, as he didn't want to join Watford.

Oh and to the people moaning about Defoe, i don't particularly want him but i think he will come, in a perfect world for me we would be signing Robbie Keane but my money is on either Bellamy or Defoe being our number 9 next season.

and out of the two i'd prefer Defoe

  4. Seem to remember people saying that about Petrov. - To sign a keeper from the scottish league is Madness in my book.

to snub a player just because he plays in the scottish league is madness in my book

Petrov has taken a lot of time to settle, but what he has shown is that on his day he is one of our best players, and on current form in the more defensive role a big improvement than McCann.

Boruc is a top quality player, he's probably overrated by the Celtic fans, but he is still a quality player, who hasn't just showed that in the SPL, but in the Champions league and the World Cup.

One thing that is for sure IMO, is that he is a better keeper than Sorensen, i rate Tommy and wouldn't be that dissapointed if he was our number 1 next year, but he isn't capable of playing for one of the european giants, which Boruc is.

i'd be delighted if we just signed Luke Young and Distin for the defence and then spent more money to get the better players in midfield and attack.

If we brought in Distin it would be perfect, not only because he can cover Bouma as well as playing centre back, but he will enable Cahill to get plenty of playing time throughout the season if we get one or two injuries, rather than having 2 left back and 4 centre backs where Cahill might not get much time on the pitch and gradually want to move on for first team football

  5. i doubt they would have trouble matching the wages we offer them with 2 of their investors worth 850mill and 2.1 bill

i'd think playing in european competition, and playing alongside much better players with a bigger chance of breaking into the top 4 is more attractive than us having a slightly bigger stadium and bigger history tbh

both clubs have big ambitions, and maybe we will overtake them in the future, but at this moment they have a much better chance of attracting players over us

    in my humble opinion mind

  6. This thread has descended into Spurs fans, people who are secretely Spurs fans

    why?

it doesn't take a genius to see that at present, spurs are a much better side

people seem to think that because things are looking up for us, that everythings going to stand still for other teams

things are looking up for Spurs just as much as they are looking up for us, but at htis present time they have the much stronger squad, with better players and they are in european competition and are financially much much more well off.

They haven't got the greatest manager, but they have plenty of things going for them in order for them to attract the top class players

  7. despite the goal i'd much much prefer Keane over Defoe, shame that they will be more keen to hold onto Keane rather than Defoe

Bent will go Spurs IMO, why? because Keane and Defoe can't play together, so he will get rid of one and bring in Bent who can play both roles

because neither Keane or Defoe will be happy with just being rotated around Berbatov for another season, so to make things easier i reckon he will get rid of Defoe and bring in Bent

I also believe outside of the top 4 Spurs will be his first choice destination, as at this present time they are a much stronger team, and look more likely to achieve silverware, on top of the fact they are a london team.

  8. Snjeider and Eto'o? Its gone funny season on here!

i'd say Sneijder and Huntelaar are the elite of which we could attract tbh

very very ambitious yes, but they are hardly world class or in an elite league

look at Kezman for instance, who scored a hatful and then flopped at a major league, which could put off potential suitors, and look at Kuyt he nearly joined Newcastle and was quite a high profile player from the dutch league

and i'm sure Bouma would give them both glowing reports on the atmosphere etc of the club at the moment

but thats if a bigger club isn't already interested in them, which i'm sure there is

  9. He will if after feeling like he's played better they STILL accept offers for him. He hasn't played better, he's had two good games, and he's been playing cos they've been forced to play him. Fact is in a week where they score 1 goal in a two leg CL semi, and a period where they thrown away the league by being unable to score enough goals, SWP has to be considered weak as he is supposed to be one of the main attacking threats.

maybe, but i don't believe they will accept offers for him, as i say unless they bring in a replacement i.e Queresma

i agree he is one of their weaker players, but he is still a very good player who they won't get rid of without a replacement

and SWP won't leave unless it is made quite clear that he has no future, as he will see leaving to go to a mid table club as a failure

  10. the only way we will sign SWP is if someone like Ricardo Queresma goes to Chelsea

if they don't sign a new right winger, then he'll still be there next season

They dont play right wingers. In fact they only use him when robben/cole/ballack is injured. If this was the case they wouldn't have accepted offers from two clubs in January.

they change there system, as they have done lately

and anyway if SWP was performing like he did before january we would have a chance to sign him

but he has been quality and has looked more chelsea standard, i don't see why they would sell their only right winger without a replacement

it would just make there system to predictable, as if cole/robben gets injured they won't have 2 wingers available.

SWP will also feel that he has done enough to deserve to stay at Chelsea, he was obviously reluctant to leave Chelsea in january, and now he's putting on good performances he will see no reason to why he should drop down a level and come to us.

  11. If we got Distin and Young, that would improve our backline greatly, and for a price of around 2 -3 million

it would mean that distin could cover both centre back and left back, and would give Cahill opportunities to progress and improve.

and then we would be able to pay more attention to maybe paying that bit more to get the better players in midfield and attack
