  1. Berger really impressed me today, showed he still had it

fantastic long range finish from him, also very impressed with his assists, was alert to win the ball and then put Hendrie through, who finished poorly, and for our second goal he toyed with portsmouths defence and slipped it to mikaelsson for a simple finish.

he also seemed to have more pace than i thought he would have

i will be very suprised if he isn't atleast on the bench on saturday

  2. Our defence looks terrible at the moment. This is where MON should be strenghening.

our defence has just been strengthened with laursen coming back to fitness and bringing bardsley in

we have 4 possible right backs

we have 7 possible centre backs

we have 3 possible left backs

yet we don't have a right midfielder

we have no creativity in our team

and our strikers struggle to score goals

midfield and attack HAS to be strengthened before the defence

  3. i really think we should panic buy for a few players

So that in 2 or 3 years we have a load of Dx2's and Bergers in our reserves, getting paid 1000's of pounds a week and upsetting tem spirit? No thank you, I'd rather sign no one than panic buy.

who says a panic buy will flop

a panic buy doesn't necersarily mean just buy anyone for the sake of it

it can mean paying over the odds for a quality player, who you know what you are going to get from them, but in normal circumstances you wouldn't spend that extra couple of mill on top

  4. i'm getting restless now

im fed up of getting up every morning coming on here, hoping we've actually signed someone only to get dissapointment

i would love to know whats going on behind the scenes, whats taking SWP so long? if they've named a price why is knowone signing him? or is it the whole falling out with mourinho & ambramovich thing?

we're arguably the team who needs the most signings in the league, i really think we should panic buy for a few players, its worth it in the long run, and its not like we will have prices ridiculously pushed up like chelsea who consistently play the likes of 20 million for players.

  5. :) sorry bully, i'm too addicted to VT for that! :winkold:

im confident that 12 million is just a shot in the dark from jorunos, martin wouldn't pay over 10 million for him, i doubt he would even pay 10 mill

if he was going to pay 12 millon for bellamy he might as well try and get bent for 13 - 15 mill

to avoid being in a very tight relegation fight IMO we need atleast two players 1 forward and 1 right mid, and if we pay a couple of mill over for them its worth it, so we don't end up losing shedloads of money by a possible relegation.

we need someone to freshen us up attacking wise and on the right, and in the last quarter of the season teams like wigan and sheff u will have players who are up for the fight and they can rotate, and we will have tired players, probably demoralised and a host of youngsters who won't be use to this sort of pressure

  6. 12 million is only paper talk, it started off as 6 mill, then it went to 9 mill now its gone to 12

they obviously wouldn't sell for 6, otherwise signing him would have been pointless, but MON wouldn't go over 10 mill

we will never have prices pushed up like chelsea either, they have been consistently playing sums of 18 million, 30 million, 21 million, 25 million etc

we won't ever pay more than 15 mill for 1 player IMO.

we need to panic buy more than others IMO, west ham are flashing cash around and already had a bigger squad

boro, newcastle, wigan and sheff u already have bigger squads

we really need the quality and quantity to match other teams, we have some higher quality playeres than the lieks of wigan and sheff u, but they can afford to make changes when players are tired, and don't have to rely on youth players

  7. as i say 12 mill's silly money

but like 8 - 10 i would pay it considering the relegation factors

other clubs would also know that we were panic buying because we are trying to save relegation, but in the summer we won't be in the position to panic, so won't be pushing the price up

IMO if we pay 4 - 5 million more for 2 quality players its worth it(2 mill more for 1 and 2 mill more for the other)

especially players who MON see's as long term investments, who will remember that extra 2 mill when they are banging goals in in 3 seasons time

  8. 12 millions obviously a rip off

but as i said in the other thread, if paying over the odds for a couple of quality players means surviving relegation, then that should be done

1 it will mean we will have shown ambition and will show future signings in the summer where we want to go, and 2 relegation would cost the club a hell of alot more money that paying a couple of million over for a few players.

  9. i'm not convinced he wants to be at villa and he wants to play european football, whcih is fair enough when you've had the successes hes had you don't want to be wasting the prime of your career at an average premiership team who aren't competing in any european tournament.

hopefully villa can show the ambition which matches the fans and our more high profile players in petrov, baros and barry

i think hes a player who needs to feel wanted, and when he has seemed to be publicly unhappy was when we had just survived relegation, not where he wants to be, and when he isn't in the team.

He wasn't in the team earlier in the season and got brought off early in games, whcih made him feel that MON had no faith in him, and i think that effected his confidence more than just not scoring, thus being why he was more of a success last season because DOL put plenty of faith into him.

hes a quality player on his day, i hope we can keep hold of these sort of players, and get rid of the players who we know can't succeed at the higher stages of the premiership and in europe, like hughes for example.

i just hope we can sign higher quality players now and in the summer, to show our better players that we are moving in the right direction, and with better players around them players like petrov and baros will improve as well.

We shouldn't be letting any of our strikers go this month, it would be almost suicide as we are short on quality anyway, if anyone should go it has to be angel IMO, hes 31 and hasn't got that bit of magic what baros has

  10. baros, berger, hendrie all seem to be heading for the exit as well

i hope this means we will have a lot of signing to replace them, i just hope we don't get caught out where we can't physically bring the players in because of the high expennse and we end up worse off than when we started

we needed players anyway, now we've lost 3 - 4

i hope we have plenty of signings close, because we are very very close to getting dragged in to the relegatin dog fight

  11. The advantages are clear. No longer would people get off at Aston Station thinking they were near the ground.

you would think all of them fulham/blackburn/bolton fans would realise by now that they keep getting off at the wrong station and then missing the games, i always wondered where they had all got to

5 or 6 players of the quality of Petrov, does not equate to 5 or 6 players the price of Petrov

    My thoughts exactly.

I'm not even sure if this is good news or not.

how can it not be good news?

our squad is a joke, and we have the odd quality player around, petrov being one of them

so if we can get 4 - 5 quality players in, which he publicly said is what we are aiming for if he could, then thats brilliant
