  1. I think Babalu might have been out 8) My oh my, Mousasi really put on a display. A new favorite of mine after watching his last three fights.

Carano got pounded to pieces by the much much stronger Santos. A big blow the the Strikeforce/Showtime hype machine. Marketing Santos is impossible and especially comparing her to Carano. Do I care, well no.

Melendez also looking good at lightweight and it was nice to see the previously out of shape Werdum back on track. His belly in his last UFC fight was embarrassing. Nice submission from him.

  2. Strikeforce has a show tonight, the card has been crippled with injuries and a Nick Diaz (tool) marijuana suspension. But the Babalu vs Mousasi is a good one. Also Jesse Taylor from TUF is on, hes been on a tear in the smaller orgs after been released by the UFC.

Main event is the first womens title fight between Carano and Santos. Not really my thing but hey ho, Gina is hot! ;-)

  3. I love the lower weights, the pace they fight at is amazing. Torres hasn't done his pound for pound king challenge any favours but that's how he fights which makes his previous run all the more impressive. I hope Ben Henderson gets a shot soon, before or after the rematch.

    Henderson is a 155er though isn't he?

  4. WEC 42 live now if anyone's interested.

Damn, forgot about that. I wanna see Torres. Downloading now!

Torres reign as the Bantam champ ended in spectacular fashion. Bowles came out and Bispinged him in the first round. Good set of fights in the WEC. The lighter guys can really put on a show!

  5. Anderson is so utterly utterly fantastic. He just took Griffin apart. The last jab was just the icing that finished the job.

"I heard his jaw was dislocated very early in the fight…then he took several more punches to the jaw. Apparently he can’t hear out of the ear on that side either. He left the octagon because he needed medical attention asap. At first they thought his jaw was broken, then said it was dislocated."

    Confirmed by: telegraph.co.uk

"Griffin had been taken to the hospital for checks, unable to hear in one ear, and in order to get his jaw checked."

    **** me!!!!

The other fights presented no real upsets other than maybe Sadollah who was stopped a bit early maybe. Penn is firmly back at 155. Great fight against a very dangerous Florian and a beautiful choke to finish.

I also liked what I saw of Sotiropoulos. Ace groundgame.

    And Grove..hahahahah! Da Spyder

Laites was apparently boring again and lost to Sakara. Bye bye contract I think.

oh, and Anderson must stay at 205 now after the Henderson rematch. There's nothing left for him at 185

  6. No weigh-in problems! But Sadollah coming in at 166, a bit of an overcut there

    Main event:

UFC Lightweight Champion BJ Penn (155) vs. Kenny Florian (155)

    Main card (Televised):

205 lbs.: Forrest Griffin (205) vs. Anderson Silva (205)

185 lbs.: Kendall Grove (185.5) vs. Ricardo Almeida (185)

155 lbs.: Kurt Pellegrino (154.5) vs. Josh Neer (155.5)

170 lbs.: Amir Sadollah (166.5) vs. Johny Hendricks (171)

Under card (May not be broadcast):

155 lbs.: Shane Nelson (156) vs. Aaron Riley (154)

170 lbs.: John Howard (169.5) vs. Tamdan McCrory (170)

185 lbs.: Alessio Sakara (185.5) vs. Thales Leites (185)

170 lbs.: Matt Riddle (170) vs. Dan Cramer (169.5)

155 lbs.: George Sotiropoulos (155) vs. George Roop (154)

170 lbs.: Danillo Villefort (170.25) vs. Jesse Lennox (171)

  7. Yep, it's ESPN.

    Main card

    * Lightweight Championship bout: B.J. Penn vs. Kenny Florian

    * Light Heavyweight bout: Anderson Silva vs. Forrest Griffin

    * Welterweight bout: Amir Sadollah vs. Johny Hendricks

    * Middleweight bout: Kendall Grove vs. Ricardo Almeida

    * Lightweight bout: Josh Neer vs. Kurt Pellegrino

    Preliminary card

    * Lightweight bout: Shane Nelson vs. Aaron Riley

    * Welterweight bout: Tamdan McCrory vs. John Howard

    * Middleweight bout: Thales Leites vs. Alessio Sakara

    * Welterweight bout: Matt Riddle vs. Dan Cramer

    * Lightweight bout: George Sotiropoulos vs. George Roop

    * Welterweight bout: Jesse Lennox vs. Danillo Villefort

BJ will bounce back but Florian is very decent nowadays. Will be a good fight I reckon.

I really hope for a Forrest win to get Anderson going again. But I doubt it will happen.

Sadollah free from injuries at last. Lets see if he was a TUF fluke. Hendricks is a tough test from what I've seen.

Almeyda to beat Grove, but only because of Groves cringeworthy nickname "Da Spyder"

  8. Oh FFS!!! Fedor has signed with Strikeforce and his management gets the co promotion bit.

Now, I like Strikeforce, they are a good Promotion, only WEC and UFC tops them, but their heavyweights are Brett Rogers, Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem. All second tier fighters at best. Not the test you'll want to see Fedor take on. He'll put all of those on their arse. Then what?

    Gutted!

  9. Todays press-conference

Tito vs Coleman before the end of 2009

Vitor Berlfort is back and will fight Franklin, yay!

Henderson gets a rematch with Anderson Silva, yay!

Fedor talks onging but co promotion is the stumbling block.

  10. Tito announced his return today on his Myspace. UFC will have a press conference later tonight.

And the Fedor circus continues. At least they are talking.......

Joost Raimond, CEO for M-1 Global, Fedors promotors:

“I can say that the guaranteed — and the word ‘guaranteed’ is of great importance here — the guaranteed offer made by the UFC is less than what Fedor made before. The five-million (per fight) is way, way, way out of range. Half of that is even way out of range of what they offered…. And there were a number of provisions attached to that offer that made it very much less interesting. We made it clear that Fedor, now and forever is part, even part owner, of M-1 and those two cannot be separated. If the rest of M-1 is excluded from any kind of deal, it makes the deal difficult…. We had a very professional, productive and respectful meeting with the UFC. I think both parties walked away (knowing) even though a deal wasn’t made, that a very decent meeting was had.”

  11. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE!!!

“A long-awaited agreement between the Ultimate Fighting Championship and the man considered the world’s best mixed martial arts fighter, Fedor Emelianenko, is expected to be announced by UFC President Dana White on Friday, a source with information about the negotiations told The Times today. The source, who asked not to be identified because he’s not authorized to speak publicly about the dealings, called negotiations between the UFC and Fedor ‘very civil’ just days after Fedor’s scheduled Affliction Trilogy fight Saturday against Josh Barnett was canceled.”

    LA Times

  12. I've just got a text saying melon head really has made up with Dana and is coming back to the octagon. Anyone heard anything?

Nothing has been done but at least they are talking again.

But damn, I've been out of the loop during vacation time and everything exploded. Most notably, Josh Barnett tested positive AGAIN for steroids and was canceled from his bout with Fedor. That in turn made Affliction cancel their third event, and that in turn made them fold their whole MMA promotion. Fedor is now a free agent again, GET TO WORK DANA!!!!!!!

Also Strikeforce lost two main men to injury in Riggs and Overeem. Replacements not assigned yet.

Still, August is a stacked month with fights.

  13. Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) UK President Marshall Zelaznik recently confirmed with Versus.com that UFC 105 will be held on November 14 from the Manchester Evening News (MEN) Arena in Manchester, England.

  14. Anyway, this argument is pointless, doesn'tchange the fact that it's different sports. Arguin that one is better than the other is as futile as arguing that cricket is better than tennis. No-one can ever settle the argument and, frankly, no-onne really gives a shit.

I'll just highlight this, in case people forget. Why do some boxing fans go out of their way to ridicule MMA, I will never know. Read my lips: DIFFERENT SPORTS!

If one wants to poke fun at certain champions of the different sports is one thing, there are bad eggs everywhere. Sylvia is one.

  15. Yup, he gets on my tits when I'm not "thinking". One of those "I'd love him to lose" guys. Just like Ortiz. UFC needs one of those every now and again to get the ratings. Even better when they can actually fight. Lesnar may have had a rocket career in MMA but there's no denying the athlete underneath it all. But wouldn't it be sweet if a Fedor type fighter just put him on his arse ;-)

  16. Lesnar wins, ref stopped the fight, Mir's face was a mess. Bit of piss taking afterward too. :crylaugh:

Lesnar moves to 4-1, considering his only loss ever was his first MMA fight, to Mir, I just don't see him making those rookie mistakes again. Unbeatable.

    He ain't unbeatable.

Fedor would wipe the floor with him if they ever faced.

Nah. Lesnar just doesn't have the respect that Fedor does due to his lack of fights, but once that wins column starts to rise high, people will quickly start to realise just how unbeatable he is. Yeah he lost once, but that was fluke on his debut, won't happen again.

I'd love to see Fedor/Lesnar.. but it ant gonna happen, ever.

Dana said when Fedor is done with Affliction, then he's making it happen

H was meant to be signing him last year (or the year before?) as well, but that never happened. :(

I think it's just a dream fight to be honest, one of those things that'll never materialise. One can dream though!

Dana yesterday: One can hope at least

“This whole Fedor thing has been going on and on and on. I keep saying this and that about him and he keeps waiting. Eventually, Fedor’s going to be here. I want Fedor. I want him to come to the UFC and everything else. [Lesnar] just became the heavyweight champion. We’ll end up getting that deal done. And then we’ll do Brock vs. Fedor, and it’ll be a huge fight.”
