I've been waiting for Mascherano's name to come up. Granted he hasn't had a great time at Wet Sham but he is a top quality defensive midfielder and also has something to prove now in the Prem - namely, that he's not cack. Bent first choice. He'd get alot of service - when we have a right winger - and we know he can score even in a chod team like Charlton. Bent and Gabby upfront with Petrov at the head of a midfield diamond could be lethal and very fast.

That said, I wouldn't turn my nose up at Defoe either and agree with most others that under MON's wing he could go far. I just think that Bent has the kind of work-ethic MON is looking for, Defoe can seem very lazy sometimes and we've already got one of them.

Me too! The guy is real class and although he scores for fun and does like to attack, he's equally good at breaking people in half in midfield.. Just what we need and would be cheaper the better British options.

Wouldn't mind Appiah if the hype is to be believed - I haven't seen enough of him. Only really saw his headless chicken performances in the world cup. I would have difficulty believing he is better than Essien though. Not many mids in the Premier are better than Essien.

I thought he had a good WC and is definitely Essien standard but i'm not a big Fernabache watcher either! Think he would work very well next to Petrov's creativity in the middle. Didn't realise MON wasnt a fan of his though.

RL is loaded because his old man was a very good businessman who made his cash fair and square. This is not a racial but a morally motivated comment and TBH I'd rather be following my team in the fizzy pop league than knowing our good fortune was built on the misery of real peoples lives. It IS only a game after all.
