  1. Ask one of our American friends to send you a few, they may have been ltd editions over here but in the Good Ole USofA that is a standard mars bar

Of course, that bar is called a "Milky Way Midnight"...

Describe your standard Mars Bar - type of chocolate plain or milk? colour of filling brown or white?

It was a fair few years ago now but when I was in the states a Mars Bar had plain chocolate and a White filling along with the caramelm - over here ours are kilk chocolate and a brown filling with the caramel

The American Milky Way bar is the closest thing in the US stable of Masterfoods to the Mars bar. Wikipedia saith that "the Milky Way bar is similar to the Mars bar sold elsewhere". The ingredient list (for the run of the mill Milky Way) is:

milk chocolate (list of ingredients thereof omitted), corn syrup, sugar, partially hydrogenated soybean oil, skim milk, cocoa power processed with alkali, lactose, malted barley, wheat flower, salt, egg whites, artificial flavor

I'll pick one up later and investigate further... ;)

  2. Actually there are too many too list so i picked a few of the main ones, if i put everyone down as an option there would be atleast 30 poll options and i think you cant have more than 10 so cut me some slack! :P

Why not have the Champions League of Chocolate Bars poll? Break them down into groups in different polls, and so forth...

  3. I say strong defense (I'm a Yank, I'm allowed! ;) )will yield a clean sheet for Villa, but we'll steal a goal somewhere in there...

1-0 to the Villa in a style that will not silence the moaning about the boring football.

  4. Given the current sponsorship environment though, the people who are most likely to 'trump' up the cash are the Internet gambling firms. So you could end up with 888.com stadium. Punchy!

About which the NFL is almost certain to have some words with Randy about. Agreements signed under the Ellis tenure (32Red, bookmaker links on the official site, etc.) will probably be allowed to play out, with Randy being unable to renew them.

The NFL prohibits any advertising for gambling on their TV broadcasts... including advertising for tourist destinations that feature gambling (i.e. Vegas). The NFL even prohibits the NBC network from promoting Las Vegas during game broadcasts.

  5. On a similar but different topic..why did Man City's stadium go from the City of Manchester Stadium to Eastlands?

    According to Wikipedia

Plans to build a stadium in east Manchester were first formulated as part of the city's bid to host the 2000 Summer Olympics, with Manchester City Council commissioning a design for an 80,000 capacity stadium on a brownfield site known colloquially as Eastlands.
  6. Definately rename VP get a big company to sponsor us give VP a new official name but fans and everyone connected to the club would still call it Villa park!

That's what happened with the Denver Broncos in the NFL... they built a new stadium next door to their old one (Mile High Stadium), and sold the naming rights so it became "Invesco Field at Mile High". The fans still call it "Mile High Stadium".

I think something a la the way the Rose Bowl (game) has handled naming rights might work: "$SPONSOR Villa Park".

  7. Whats more satisfying than knowing that should you and your girlfriend have children that they will grow up supporting the Villa to the dismay of their Grandfather who would be desperate for them to follow SHA, especially when the other daughter is engaged to a Liverpool fan!

Other than the whole redscouse thing, I'd say that's proof of evolution... :D

  8. All this fuss about a supposed casino - it's hypocritical. So what if Randy does want to build a casino (assuming he gets permission/govt approval or whatever) - well the Birmingham Mail were all in favour of a casino for their little darling Blooz weren't they - now, all of a sudden, a vague rumour of one being built by Villa and it's complete outrage. Total hypocrisy. (Even if true -which is doubtful)

As I've noted on the front page, the NFL take a dim view of gambling (despite the fact that bookmakers bought the Giants and Steelers, and the descendants of said bookmakers own those franchises to this day, to say nothing of how gambling to this day provides one of the major sources of interest [and thus, indirectly, revenue] for the League). There are rules that essentially prohibit any NFL owner from being involved in the operation of a gambling enterprise. I would strongly suspect that it will require major gymnastics for AVFC (especially if it's a private entity, and Lerner definitely seems to want to take it private!) to open a casino, while Lerner is able to retain ownership of the Browns. Given that Lerner is a life-long Browns fan (and to a greater degree than it appears a certain "Life-long Villa fan" is what he claims to be...), I strongly suspect that if things developed to the point where the only way to make money at Villa is through a casino, he will sell Villa to a casino operator. I strongly doubt that such a situation will come to pass, especially within any sort of timeframe over which anybody may have reasonable expectations, but the point is that a casino is almost certainly a non-starter during the Lerner regime at Villa Park.

  9. But seriously, I would say that most Americans, at least in my circle of influence really LOVE the English, but worry that the English don't love us back. It's almost as if we Americans have an inferiority complex. You guys (the English) are basically our parent country.

There's definitely a strong anglophilia that persists in the US to this day, moreso if you add the more celtic affinities in, so I guess that a general "british isles-philia" fits better. Perhaps it's oedipalesque; I know that I generally give substantial extra points for any accent from the Isles (cf. Keira Knightley, Elizabeth Hurley, Rosamund Pike, etc.)... :D
