  1. Just passed the army (Irish) fitness test, so happy :D.

Fair play! Have heard its a tough one to get through! Super job opportunities there as well...

Nice one. It was pretty tough, but if you're reasonably fit it's not too bad.

Just passed the army (Irish) fitness test, so happy  :D.

    Is that the IRA?

    Shhh...Please don't tell anyone.

Best of luck man you should be ready in time for WW3

Not taking the mickey, but what does the Irish Army actually do? Do they get involved with peacekeeping or tours of Afghanistan and the like? With a history of neutrality, I didn't even realise that Ireland had an army.

(Just to be clear, I know that thousands of brave Irish boys fought in WW2, and as any Saturday night pub dweller will tell you, you don't get too many Irish lads shying away from a fight, so no question of cowardice.)

  2. That Telegraph article makes me feel like Doug never went away.

Coming to the end of another crap season? Brief the press that things are going to change in the summer, we will buy big, etc.

Perhaps Randy is Dougs step son.

    No, that's Dwight Yorke ;)

  3. It's the title of the thread that gives it away.

Yeah I can read that, it doesn't say plane spotting.

Sadly when you said early today no more jet talk I though you meant it.

Somebody asked a question about Randy Lerner in the Randy Lerner thread for which I could at least point towards an answer.

So, being polite, I did so.

As a 'moderator' I would have thought that you would appreciate that.

  4. For a game, not sure. I am 99.9% sure that the incognito thing is bullshit.

I guess that for the last two visits he didn't attend a game.

It looks like something personal is keeping him from staying away too long, but cynics/critics may read that as loss of interest. I'm not sure that if I was a couple of hundred mill into something that I would lose interest, but then I am not a wealthy man....

Must be Dec 2012 then. If you are going off plane records for evidence I doubt he'd just fly over from america (7+hr flight), watch a match and then fly back straight away in one day. Is that sort of thing even possible? You'd be destroyed.

Most arrivals are before 0800, so 0300 Cleveland time, which would put him leaving there around 2100 local.

For overnight stays departures vary between lunchtime and evening UK time, putting him back in Cleveland no later than 2300 local.

His plane is pretty comfortable, so I doubt that he would be destroyed!

How is that 'no more jet talk' working out for you? :)

It's the title of the thread that gives it away.

  5. I can't see him staying if he's lost the fans. Needs something Saturday to not lose them completly.

He hasn't lost the fans. I back Lambo 100% & I am not the only poster who holds that view on VT either.

The reality is he has only lost the impatient fans & not the one's who believe in the Lambert Project & see that as the bigger picture.

Some fans have only turned recently out of frustration at having to stick with a long term project that has been derailed mainly due to the loss of our talisman Benteke.

Get over the line & many of these fans can easily be won back again.

Also, there is no shame in being wrong or frustrated because it is only due to the hurt & despair of seeing our beloved Villa languishing down amongst the dead men.

Lambert has balls & I like that.

As for the fans currently against him I would say "Don't Ball's It Up For The Rest Of Us!"

Has the fact that 'our talisman Benteke' been largely shite during his 'fit' parts of the season escaped you?

I support Lambert on Saturday, but if he needs a lift to Norwich after the game, I am his man.

I wish our other 'shit' players had scored 11 this season. Then maybe we wouldn't be in the shit.

He started the season well and then picked up an odd injury. Its clear he was rushed back as we needed him. This didn't work out and he went on a period without scoring. He then broke that and bagged a few more.

So I do t think he's been shit, maybe if you compare that to last season. But I think 11 goals in an injury hit season is a good return.

The point was that the season has not been 'derailed' by the loss of Benteke, because his performances have been generally poor, which you allude to by claiming that he was 'rushed back'.

I agree, he was 'rushed back' and, clearly unfit, made little or no contribution in a number of games.

  8. Richard, interesting repetition of your reasons for supporting Lambert, which I think we have seen a few times before tbf.

Now you've got that off your chest, can you tell us what you know about the row between Gabby and Delph and Culverhouse.

    That's much more interesting.

Yes, throw us all a crumb.....

  9. I think he's a gonna chaps at the end of the season. You say the PR is amateur, well I agree and I reckon they think sacking Lambert is what we all want. Its a bit of a get out clause for the board to make us believe Lambert is the main problem. No mention of Lambert in the statement, not even a quote to back the manager, bit of a worry that, a bit McLeish de-ja-vu, an we all know how that story ended???

Lambert is the main problem as to why we are not slumming around mid-table on 40-45 points.

The problem of ambition and taking the club forward to a scent of success and competitiveness lies a bit higher up.

Unfortunately, depending upon people's preferences, they tend to use the one as an excuse for the other.

We have to assess it at the end of the season. If we finish OK I'd stick with Lambert because I don't see who else would take the job and improve us. That's how far we've fallen under Lerner. If we lose the last 4 game that's clearly a different issue.

I hope we finish the season OK and Lambert gets some decent money to spend. That investment is what is lacking especially. I still think he can be a good manager for this club, and although I can understand others losing patience, I'm not sure how many managers would have been able to do a lot with a £5-15k wage cap on most players. That's Championship level - hopefully that's not where we end up.

The sad thing is our wage cap probably isnt even championship standard more likely league 1.

That would suggest that you have some very strange ideas as to how much footballers earn.

Also, what is this mythical 'wage cap'? Wasn't Benteke raised to £40k per week (reportedly) last summer?

£40k a week in the modern Premier League is not a lot. If anything it's another feather in the cap of the manager that he talked him into signing for 4 more years at that rate when he could surely have earned more elsewhere, off the back of being one of the best signings made by any manager all over Europe. If we were allowed to sign more players at £7m and £40k a week I'd suggest that we'd be doing a lot better. Maybe this summer we will.

Whether it is a lot or not is immaterial.

The OP quoted a wage cap of £5k-£15k a week, which is clearly debunked by the contract of Benteke.

  12.

IMO the buck stops with Lerner. MON, Houllier , McLeish and now Lambert have all been stitched up by the board. The problem is Lerner's pockets aren't as deep as they need to be to successfully run a club like Villa. He has clearly lost interest (despite what Faulkner says) and he should sell up.  Using FFP as an excuse is starting to ware thin.

Lerner is a very, very wealthy man - He could easily invest more if he wanted to. The fact that he hasn't been to VP in almost 18 months shows his level of interest in the club. It really would surprise me if he knew our results from one week to the next.

But then there is the whisper that his mother won't let him invest more, and that he has had his wrists slapped.

No idea whether that is true, but I am surprised that his detractors haven't used that one more often.

It's 6 months, by the way, but I accept that a time lapse can be exaggerated. I guess that it's too long anyway.

If someone wants to buy us then they're going to have to find around £250m as the purchase price.

    Another categorical statement?

    Opinion, or fact?

There used to be a mod who jumped on stuff like this :)

    Its obviously his opinion ?

He hasn't said anything that unbelievable has he ? - I would have thought that figure is in the ball park ?

I suggested the same, presented as the opinion that it was, a few days ago.

The poster here has put himself forward as a definite ITK in the recent past, so when making categorical statements as this and the one earlier, it is not unreasonable to seek confirmation as to whether it is indeed ITK information, or purely an opinion.

  15. man city also have this whole development outside going on, which is all sponsored by eitihad, no precedent for it, cant be compared to arsenal's emirates deal etc because its far bigger, their owners can pump just about as much money in to that as the like, will be interesting to see how muddy they cant make the waters with the new york and oz clubs too

Just as a point, the Emirates airline were part of the huge bail out of Dubai by Abu Dhabi.

So, by default, the owners of Man City sponsor Arsenal.

Stick that in your FFP pipe and smoke it!

  16. If you have enough money there are ways around FFP

Just like if you have enough money, there are ways around paying lost of income tax.

Rich people can hire expensive people to help them buck the system, and rich football clubs can do the same.

If you have the dough, you can do anything that you want......

  17.

The Lambertines.....even druggie Pete Doherty could have made a better job of managing Vila for the last two games !

The Lamberghinis - people who want him gone as quickly as possible.

The Lambertstotheslaughter - how he sets them up every game

  18.

He was never in for Barry

So, with this casually thrown crumb, if you are correct, the whole of the Nicholas tirade can be disregarded as it is complete bullshit?

    Why would he be correct?

It wasn't so long ago that the OP was putting himself forward as an 'ITK'

So, if he is an 'ITK', then the information that he gives may be correct.

'He was never in for Barry' is a pretty firm statement.

  19. I appreciate the fact that private jets movements led to the breaking of the OGS story, but other than that, is it really relevant or interesting?

Not really, I was probably 'defending' Randy Lerner (no Mr., just for you!) as it appeared that his ownership of a jet was being used as another stick to beat him with.

No more jet talk from me...............
